Opononi Villa

This property was not suitable for our more mature group. There were numerous trip hazards, a hole in the floor, and a rotting shower floor that did not drain as designed. The state of the weatherboard cladding was rotten. The front step was dangerous. The lack of power points and reliance on extension cords was dangerous. The air conditioning did not work and despite advertising wifi this was not provided. There was a lack of toilet paper. There was plenty of evidence of leaks and the house was musty

Great location and plenty of space.

The TV not working, the lazy boy chair broken in first room to left with the single beds. Tripped over the chair at night. The chair close to bathroom is totally broken. Otherwise a joyful stay. Loved the old Villa.

This is a very old villa which would've been a pristine home in its heyday. The furniture is original, as are carpets and wallpapers, and for us - a group with the oldest member a 90yr old and the others all over 45+ - it was an easy and comfortable place too stay while we attended local attractions and a 70th birthday nearby. Location in Opo is unbeatable! You'll find the driveway behind THE TOI BOX art gallery (a small black prefab building on the driveway to the i-site). It's a typical bach, meaning it is not state of the art and modern but has everything to meet your basic needs. Enjoyed the stay and having somewhere big enough for all of us to be together. Old Historic homestead. Great location. Has everything you need. Suited us as we not really into new flash accommodation as we're used to it being rural living. So we all really enjoyed the place. I did read previous reviews regarding plywood on floor etc, this is accurate but we didn’t mind this at all. Evidently its still in the hands of the original family that built it about 130 years ago, so thats great we think. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Perfect spot.

Great old villa with plenty of room. Needs a bit of work to iron out some of the maintenance issues, but overall a great stay. Rustic but comfortable. Excellent host. Easy to deal with.

Close to all the action. Abundance of space in the large villa. Very relaxing time there had by all

We enjoyed our short break staying in this property despite the state of the property. The property is extremely dated and needs ugrading to meet minimum standards. Some of the obvious shortfalls of the property as follows: - throughout the property is dated and needs a significant refit to meet minimum standards - the main entrance hallway has a long carpet mat that does not fit the hallway which causes the mat to roll-up in various spots that can create a risk of tripping - there is one section of the passage that has a bare sheet of plywood which I assume is covering a hole as it is quite soft - there is a broken window in the laundry that is not even covered - we thought that there could be a dead rat/mouse in one of the hall closets -the backdoor step is very spongy and needs to be repaired The promotional comments for this property state that it suits up to 10 people and that it has suitable access for a wheelchair. While there is sleeping capacity for ten the utensils in the kitchen are piecemeal and there are not enough of everything, I would also not agree about the wheelchair access as the path around the house is narrow and overgrown. Despite the numerous shortfalls in this property we did enjoy Opononi but we will not be using this property on any future visit.

Very beautiful layout inside and outside, Perfect location for everything.. Just had a week probably with front porch light not working.. otherwise outstanding weekend ☺ Methe the Lady of the house very nice..

Awesome place to have a gathering of friends or family. Handy to everything, lovely sheltered setting from wind. Beach across road is great, white sand all tide swimming. Love to come back!

Beautiful location, clean and tidy. Heaps of space. Cooking was tricky with oven not working and stove top playing up. Otherwise we had a great holiday.
