Relais Country House

The service was excellent and the property provided a good amount of space. It was great to be able to walk to Pompei Archeological Site. Having provided breakfast was very helpful and the on site restaurant was a great place for dinner.

The location is within walking distance of the scavi therefore if the intention is to see the ruins its ideal. The rooms are spacious and very clean. There is a minibar as well. The property has an adjoining restaurant which would be ideal if you arrived late and didnt feel like walking to other restaurants.

Toiletries provided were not enough and we had to purchase from convenience store. Our friends also complained that their room was invaded by ants. Something that was however promptly sorted out by the owners. There seems to be an ant problem because even in our case we had this issue but not to the extent that we had to report it.

Breakfast was simple but delicious and served with welcoming smiles. We ate one dinner in the restaurant and it was superb - I wish we could have dined there again, but our schedule worked against us!

Very small things: for example it might be good to check all lightbulbs are working before guests arrive. But mostly, super!

The location was good for walking to Pompei amphitheater for a concert and a walking tour / scavi train station the following day. It is in a strange area in that you are walking along busy roads etc, but did not feel unsafe. Have to say comfortable bed as well and the AC worked well. Liked the garden area out the front of the building.

So we had a problem Saturday night. The concert overrun and by the time we left the concert and walked back to the hotel it was around midnight, tired etc wanting our bed. Only issue was the key fob did not work which open the metal gates;We walked to all 3 entrances multiple times; tried the fob again and again…nothing. By now my wife and I honestly eyeing up the street floor to sleep on. Not good, multiple phone calls and nothing. It was only when finally trying one of the keys in a lock one of the gate doors within the gate, that it pushed aside and opened that we got in, the door looked to have been left slightly ajar. We have tried locks many times. There is no 24hr help and my wife was pretty upset. Paul the receptionist did eventually ping on WhatsApp around 0045 by which time we had got in but to say it was stressful was an understatement. The following morning we had no real apology. I suggested that fobs should maybe be tested every-time someone new stays to make sure batteries remain topped up and also explain there is a key override ; something that importantly was omitted from our instructions. One of those things granted but at 0030 at night, not being able to get into the hotel you’ve pre-paid for and no apology from the owner the following day is a little jarring. Hopefully lessons are learnt moving forward.
