The location was great.
The heat in my room was constantly turning off and needed to be manually reset. Staff acted like it was normal, but I’ve never been in a hotel in a major city where I had to constantly turn the thermostat on. My brother’s room next door had virtually no hot water in the sink or shower, and my sink only ran cold as well. February in Birmingham is not warm, heat and hot water are both required for a comfortable stay, and for this reason, this hotel fell terribly short. Also, too many doors and drop ceilings in what was clearly once a grand space, now chopped up into many claustrophobic spaces.

Location and room
Front desk trying to upsell to larger room and mistakenly not know we had breakfast included.
Cooked Breakfast was very small portions and were not big eaters.

The staircase is very beautiful
The taps in the room were broken, the door to the bathroom was also broken and didn’t shut. The lamp by themed was also flickering so much we couldn’t use it. Although we had booked an accessible room it was only Accessible via a staircase. Everything just felt like an afterthought.

It’s a beautiful building with lovely rooms
The night staff were unhelpful when it came to a freezing cold room.

Very stylish hotel, lovely room and beautiful and relaxing bars. Really enjoyed the Madeleine bar. Staff were so attentive, friendly and professional. Thanks to all.

Location to shops and bars was great! It was clean and the gentleman that checked us in was very lovely to deal with. The bar staff were also very friendly
It was very cold in the room even though we had set the temperature it didn’t seem to work ☹️ so the pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable

Location and facilities
Reception and Room Service Staff were not enthusiastic or particularly helpful. Disappointing as we have stayed there several times and it always the same. Bar staff were really great.

Fabulous food and the location was perfect. The team onsite were so helpful and efficient.
WiFi was really weak signal, this was the only issue on a work trip.

Very beautiful hotel, clean and comfortable bed, pretty room, quiet. We were given an upgrade to a deluxe room and the room was lovely.
The heating took a bit to come on, but it was fine all night once it started working.

Breakfast was superb and waiters listened to what we wanted.
The location is exactly where you want your hotel to be in B’ham
The hot water from the basin tap varied from tepid to cold. But water temperature in shower was fine

The breakfast was excellent - they even had Marmite, which is my test of a good hotel. The location couldn't be better, right in the city centre only a few minutes walk from New Street Station. Room very comfortable, with two easy chairs. Too many hotels have rooms ostensibly for two guests but only one chair.
We were very disappointed at not being able to have a relaxing drink in the bar. We tried three times - the first time we were told we could only have a table for 30 minutes, and the remaining two occasions we weren't allowed in the bar at all. I appreciate it was a busy time of the year, but to have nowhere where guests could sit and relax was very poor, considering the price we paid.
The shampoo fell off the wall of the shower every time I tried to use it.

Checked in. asked reception to send some ice & 2 glasses up to the room. Oh no we can't do that, you must ring number 2 from your room phone & request this from Room service. Got into the room, made the call, oh you better ask at reception because we charge a £5 service tray charge, even for ice. So I called & called back to reception & no answer. Freeing in the room with air con on in winter. Not a great start at all. for charging £300 per night with no breakfast this is appalling service.. Will stay elsewhere in future. Stay at the premier inn across the road next to fumo restaurant, it will be less than half the price & the bed will be more comfortable.
Attitude at reception when making a simple request for ice.

Room was quiet and comfortable. Nice bathroom
Lack of dressing gown, biscuits, tissues in the bathroom for the first night. It looked like the room was set up for one guest only instead of for a couple.. The downstairs bar/restaurant was very poorly managed and on arrival as hotel guests were not able to sit at a vacant table as we were told "that tables reserved" without any sign telling us and time reserved from. We headed to the lower bar where a distinct lack of staff was obvious. The poor guy behind the bar was pulling his hair out trying to serve guests as well as waiting on staff for the restaurant. Poor. Choice of beers. Fridges empty.

Good location
I asked for a bath on both my last bookings and didn’t get one. I was in a deluxe room on both occasions. I also asked at check in for a couple of extra tea bags and was told they’d be delivered to my room but they never materialised. The check in/out staff were not warm or welcoming

Excellent hotel, well positioned in the heart of the square.
The bar has won awards apparently for being the best bar. Whilst it was vey smart and a lovely atmosphere etc, it failed to cater for those of us whom don’t drink. The only offer was a bottle of Peroni or a cocktail made up of fruit juices ( at cocktail prices) no 0% gin or similar spirits.

The Hotel was clean, nicely decorated and well maintained with a well stocked cosy Bar and very good quality food at Isaacs the in house restaurant.
It is also well situated with Snow Hill train station a 2 minute walk away and car parking a 4 minute walk.
There are many Restaurants , Cafes and shops on your doorstep, as well as Birmingham Cathedral.
Also the centre of Birmingham and the Bullring are a nice leisurely 5 minute walk passing many more restaurants, Bars, shops and cafes.
Personally the only down side was that a small few of the staff were a bit pompous and bordering on aloof and rude.
There is a fine line between appearing stately and efficient, rather than being professional yet still welcoming. The Grand is a Hotel with a Grand tradition and status in Birmingham, but maybe a few of the staff think that makes them grand too, which unfortunately is a status you have to earn, an doesn't come automatically with a job in this fine Hotel.

Check in, the room and the bar.
Breakfast and room service. The breakfast which I had was pancakes which were not very nice. not fluffy like I had hoped. and the bacon that was on it was dry and crisp and I choked on it. Room service was a undercooked peperoni pizza of which we got 2 because they didn't have chips and that was £37 and we waited an hour for it. Should have got uber eats.

What a lovely hotel! Rooms were spacious and very clean. Would absolutely stay again
There was an event on which made the foyer busy at times. The only moan

The room was beautiful.
Clean and well appointed.
The noise coming from a function in the ballroom was disrupting and I was not able to sleep until the music finished at midnight.
The bass reverberated through the room for several hours.
For the cost of the room this is not what I would have expected to endure.
This was the only disappointment of my stay here. But completely ruined it.

Very nice property in heart on Birmingham. Food was good and check in/out easy. Staff were also very good
The key system was poor. I was locked out my room twice and had to keep going up and down the stairs as lifts were busy. Not good when you just want fo get to your bed/out the door in a rush in morning

Most professionally presented hotel we stay in. Shall continue to visit. Now becoming our comfort zone. Perfect combination of friendly staff with great etiquette and attention to detail. Faultless

Excellent last minute stay at the grand. Having been to Birmingham numerous times we’d never stayed at the grand before and wow what have we being missing.!! Easy check in, fantastic room and the actual hotel is GRAND. Nice bar to have drinks in and the breakfast was just great. Fresh produce and the most attentive waiting staff, didn’t catch any of their names but everyone working at breakfast Monday 8th September THANKYOU, you were all the best.
Our new to stay hotel when in Birmingham.
Parking wasn’t available at the hotel so we parked nearby in a multi storey parking lot, added bonus was it was locked up at 11.30pm till 7.30am so felt our car was secure overnight.

Fantastic hotel in a fab central location. You are in the centre of the city, a short stroll from the bull ring and train station, close enough to walk to Digbeth, the Gas Basin canal and the Jewellery district. Rooms were very comfortable and well equipt. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
Cannot find any fault!

Good
On check-in there was only 1 person on the desk and he was on a phone (it seemed to a former guest who had left something in the room); I was therefore kept waiting for 10 minutes, and there was then, when I was eventually attended to, no apology whatsoever. When I then said that I shouldn't really be kept waiting in that way, the member of staff concerned was surly/defensive in his response - not the best start after a long journey to Birmingham!

Lovely hotel in the centre of Birmingham. Excellent breakfast. Lovely clean rooms with good facilities and decent sized bathrooms.
The bathroom supplies (shampoo and conditioner etc) are Penhaligon's which is lovely but the actual bottles were very tired and falling off the wall. There didn't appear to be any way to run the bath other than via the shower head. More milk in the fridge would be great as well as one tiny bottle between us wasn't enough for tea.

Excellent value for money - top quality experience and the best hotel breakfast I've had in a very long time! Central location a 2 minute walk from trains, shops, restaurants and my meetings.
Nothing to dislike
