It was spacious, comfy, and in a great location. The host’s communication was spot on.

Location is beautiful, convenient parking on the street.
When we arrived the property was stone cold, took ages to warm up. The beds were all incredibly uncomfortable. The fridge in the kitchen didn't appear to work. The bath was really shallow. The garden wasn't secure so could only take dogs out on a lead.
The biggest issue was the conduct of the owner, unfortunately our 5 year old was sick in the night we apologised, we stripped bed sheets and washed them and hung them up to dry. The owner claims they were stained and demanded £50 to replace them. We saw no evidence of any stains and she provided no proof.

More lighting in living room. Mattress cover on king size bed, nightmare, needs replacing.

Location was superb with lots of walks and great beaches for swim nearby.
Fitted sheet on king sized bed wasn’t deep enough for the mattress and kept coming off

Big rooms. Comfortable beds and sofas. Plenty of dining space. Good size garden. The shower worked well. Fridge freezer plus fridge added to the plentiful storage space. Good WiFi.Worked well as a base for what we did. Basic supplies and some extra bits available from nearby shops. Locals friendly.
Some of the decor was a bit tired. Backdoor required a bit of know how. The living room could perhaps do with some brighter lighting. None of this was a major problem as they didn't stop us eating, drinking and sleeping.

Lovely spacious self catering cottage with a nice garden out the back. Easy to park on the street outside. Comfortable beds, nicely presented. Good shower in the bathroom as well as a bath. Well equipped kitchen. Great location only a few minutes from the Pentland ferry terminal in St Margaret's Hope. Very peaceful and loved the living room views with glimpses of the harbour despite occasional pedestrians walking by. Well stocked village shop & PO nearby
Owner really responsive and helpful with queries prior to our stay.
It is next door to an excellent seafood restaurant, The Murray Arms Hotel and Seafood Restaurant which is owned by a relative of the owner. It was so good we went twice and it was so easy to walk home from.
Living room a little gloomy in the evenings, markings on the oven controls have worn off, but the owner said she plans to replace the oven next winter. Would have liked to use the outside seating but the cushions were a bit grubby

The house was situated perfectly , which is a conservation area, two local shops and a restaurant and bar close by, which serves exceptional food with very friendly staff.
Very accessible to beaches and historic sites.
The house is dog friendly, with an enclosed garden, the garden has a covered area which is great for sitting with a morning coffee or an evening refreshment. The bed we used was very comfy and the house was warm, a log/coal fire is in the living room as well as gas central heating..
We look forward to visiting again.

Beautiful large rooms. Fabulous house.
It was cold- but to fair we booked at very last minute and the owner did put the heating on straight away but it took a day to warm up. There was no coal or firewood again short notice. But it could have been supplied. We purchased from local shop.
Electric shower needs attention. Very poor water flow - took ages to wash hair!

Good facilities and value for money. Everything was clean, tidy and Shona made sure we had what we needed during stay. We were able to park outside property which was handy.
Only negative was I was expecting 2 bathrooms as per advert, however we managed fine with bath/shower room and separate toilet.

Good enclosed garden for my dogs. Plenty space for 3 of us. Obviously been a family home with some lovely art work on the walls. I had a bit of bother with the key lockbox but the owner replied very promptly to me and I
got it it sorted with her advice.
Not as clean as I would have liked. I had to clean the living room ceiling of all the cobwebs and spiders as I couldn’t relax otherwise. The log burner was a nice touch but it hadn’t been cleaned out from the previous occupancy, luckily it was nice warm weather so we didn’t need it. The layout of the bathroom was a bit strange. Outdoor seating area at fire pit was very dirty so we couldn’t use it.

fantastic location - Amazing restaurant next door

house was huge and had everything you needed
beautiful high ceilings and wonderful staircase
great supply of towels etc and a huge bath
the stay was just amazing so no bad things
only tiny thing would be a mirror for second and third bedroom

The location is excellent, as property is based in the centre of St Margaret’s Hope. There is a village post office/shop in the same street and another shop around the corner. Great seafood restaurant next door (make sure you book) plus another cafe/restaurant, which is also very good, nearby.
St Clair House is large and has a log burning stove with a spacious bathroom and lots of hot water. To the rear is a large enclosed garden, with a parking space to the side. Offering great value for money, this is a very comfortable home, from which to tour Orkney.
Some good little beaches nearby. Local people friendly and helpful. Overall this is a great place to stay. There were 3 of us and a dog, a wee westie, so house is also dog friendly. I would certainly recommend it to others.
I hope the Pentland Ferries are running soon as it will make St Clair House such a convenient place to stay on Orkney when you arrive at St Margaret’s Hope. We had to arrive and depart via Stromness which was not part of the original plan, however this did not detract from a great holiday in Orkney.

Fantastic host and lovely house in a great location. House is very well equipped and has a good WiFi connection - which is important for us! We had a really enjoyable stay. Thanks!

An excellent house in a small town, right on the coast. The house is roomy and well-equipped, and just overall a really comfortable place to stay. The wifi worked well.

Comfortable home, surprisingly spacious. Great location. Would stay again.

The location is ideal and a perfect base for our first visit to Orkney. The facilities were very good and the proximity of an excellent pub/restaurant (next door) was very much appreciated
There was no instruction booklet of any kind. Most things were easy to resolve but there were a couple of quirky things (eg TV operation) which would have been easier to work out with some written guidance.

Great location - ‘home-away-from-home’ feel to the apartment - had everything we needed.
Nothing to report here.

Home was warm with plenty of heat, water hot and shower excellent, and location superb. Clean and well appointed with plenty of refrigeration, freezers, and kitchen.
Don't like memory foam, so slept in the other room with the double bed, without it. That bed had a pretty springy mattress, so overall 9/10, but the bed quality was the least pleasant aspect of this otherwise wonderful home.

next door to best seafood restaurant ( Murray Arms )
no information pack , no hot water , kitchen tap about to fall off , front door knob loose , very dark living room and kitchen which made stay really miserable even though light outside , only 6 knives , towels shoddy.

Easy access to all amenities in the area
Parking was a bit of a chalenge

Beautiful location. Spacious rooms. Warm and cosy. Well equipped.
Lock box was jammed. Back door key and lock unreliable. No garden chairs that we could put on the lawn. Memory foam mattress is far too hot. Sitting room is very dark.

A spacious and comfortably furnished house right next to the Murray Arms Hotel and Restaurant, where they serve delicious seafood, and close to the little shop and post office for all the necessities - a great base to explore Mainland Orkney! The owner was easy to reach and very helpful.

Lovely clean, comfortably furnished, spacious house in an ideal village location for the ferry and to see the Orkney sights. Particularly appreciated the dog friendly enclosed garden, sheltered outdoor seating area, dedicated parking and the log burner. Local grocery stores and good eating places nearby. Would definitely recommend.
Nothing we didn’t like although a few wee extra touches would be helpful such as entrance doormats for wet shoes, more glassware and an instruction guide for the house and local amenities.

lovely house. very comfortable. great secure garden for kids and dogs. nice outdoor seating area. fab location for a wander, with wee shops and hotel and pub close by. loved the stove burner.
living room was quite dark could use a couple more standard lamps. some cooker rings didn’t work, some TVs didn’t get a signal, no tourist information and nothing to play films on at night. was a bit dusty in places.

Location was excellent, the property is amazing. Added bonus was the secure garden was very suitable for our dog.

The house is beautiful and so close to the ferry port and a great location for exploring the islands.
As others mentioned in the guest book in the cottage, it would be great if a welcome pack could be made available with info on best sites and sights. Also the lighting in the lounge is really dim and would benefit from stronger bulbs. The house was clean but there were a lot of cobwebs and dust around and the bathroom toilet had some man staining on the floor...
I know it's costly but the whole place could do with a bit of a revamp and update, the kitchen drawers didn't all open for example but it was well equipped and generally clean.
As a log burner owner myself I'd also suggest trying to keep the wood drier. The logs and coal were pretty wet with the risk of flue clogging and causing a chimney fire.

A very clean, spacious well equipped home from home. Huge safe garden for our dog. Fantastic log fire which kept the house warm and welcoming.
Great sleep I huge beds.
Next door to hotel and small shop where you could buy all the basics.
Near the ferry terminal. If you want a quiet village feel to your stay but within an easy drivable distance to the sites this huge house is ideal. Kitchen big enough for 3 to eat in and a separate utility.
