We had an excellent stay!

This was our second stay here. The owner is very helpful and knowledgeable about Leiden. The location is excellent, very quiet, overlooking a canal and in a traditional Dutch house. It is a short walk to the centre, with the Pieterskerk, museums, shops, bars and restaurants.

This is not a 'dislike' but please be aware that the stairs to the upper floors are quite steep - it is a characterful old house!

What a lovely and perfect stay! The host, Monique, is so friendly and kind. It was so nice to talk to her and she gave me ideas of places to visit in the city. She made me feel at home. The house is so beautiful from the outside and so charming on the inside. My room was big, super cozy and had an amazing view of the canal on the street. It was so relaxing to sit by the window and appreciate the view at night, after walking the whole day in the city. The beds were so comfy that it was hard for me to get up in the morning lol. The bathroom is outside the room, but right next to it. It was big and spotless clean. I loved everything and I definetely recommend staying at this place.

I was sad I had to leave. The B&B Hart van Leiden stole my heart.

Wonderfully appointed apartment in the heart of Leiden

Great location but the apartment itself is a very well appointed renovation of a historic building. We loved staying there.

We loved the apartment and would definitely choose it again. The staircase to the 1st floor though is narrow and steep as ALL historic buildings in Leiden.

Loved Leiden. Beautiful city with a great university and good history

Monique was a wonderful hostess. The room was large with big windows overlooking the canal. We had a fridge and coffee pot

Perfect place to stay in Leiden

The hostess was kind and really friendly. The room was spacious and clean. The location was wonderful, a walking distance from all the sights and the railway station.

Everything was perfect. The stairs to the room may be challenging for some but for us it was not a problem.

A beautiful spot along a canal. The room was beautifully styled and spacious.I had an ankle injury so found the stairs a bit tricky but normally they would be no problem. A good location and walkable from the station. Monique was very helpful and made early contact with lots of useful information

Nice bright apartment in old town of Leiden.

A spacious and bright apartment on 2nd floor with two large windows facing the canal. All amenities and comforts are provided along with a separate bathroom with a shower. Note: there is no kitchen, only just some dishes, glasses and cups, a tiny fridge, good for drinks and for a simple breakfast, as well as a water boiler and a Nespresso machine. A groceries store is nearby, and we ate our breakfast in the apt. (A more elaborate breakfast is offered by the host).

WARNING: the staircase is VERY steep and narrow - like in so many old Dutch houses. If you are a little afraid of heights, or do not walk in shoes with rubber non-slip soles, then this staircase is dangerously steep and slippery. Also, you will struggle seriously if you want to carry a large heavy suitcase up or down these stairs - carry-on luggage or bags are no problem so long that you can carry them with one hand while walking up or down these stairs. The lady managing the apartment offered to carry something upstairs for us when we arrived, but as she seemed a little older than we are, we did not ask her for help. Other than this steep staircase, we VERY MUCH enjoyed our three-day stay at this apartment!

We had a wonderful stay at B&B Hart van Leiden. Highly recommend it.

Wonderful host - she let us drop off our luggage early, had it carried up the stairs to our room, checked in with us to see if we needed anything and helped greatly by booking a taxi to the airport on short notice when we were confronted with a train strike. Lovely, spacious and bright room. Very comfortable for our group of 3. We appreciated the lovely bottle of wine left for us.

The open concept bathroom area was unusual but we managed fine with it. Works best for a couple.

Best place to stay in Leiden

Outstanding in every way!! VERY VERY SPACIOUS - unlike most Dutch hotel rooms in towns which are always TINY ,TINY because of the size of these ancient buildings. VERY Comfortable, modern and very well equipped. SUPER location on a canal, great views, easy parking in front, only a few minutes walk from or the sites and restaurants. We're retired and stay in 70 hotels a year. So far this is the highlight of 2025!

The room is big and spacious, with a lovely view on the canal. It is walking distance from everything important. The host was very helpful.

The accommodation is open space, so there is no door on the toilette, only a curtain. It is a bit weird, but it is not that unusual for the Netherlands as we've heard from other visitors.

The room was lovely with high quality amenities and some lovely extra touches. It was very clean and comfortable.

The only small thing that could improve the property would be a door for the washroom, to provide more privacy.

Great option for a Leiden stay

Close but not too close to the centre of Leiden. Easy walking to all major locations and attractions . Comfortable room, great view over the canal from the window. The owner will give you some recommendations for breakfast - I would add Barista Cafe Leiden, Catharinasteeg 5,

The location is nearby the center of Leiden in walking distance. The breakfast prepared by the host was excellent. The view from our room to the canal was very nice.

The stairs in this old house take a lot of getting used to if you have to climb the stairs with luggage. Everything else was really nice an fine.

Pleasant four-night stay in Leiden

Hart van Leiden is strategically located on the Oude Singel, close to both the city centre and Leiden Centraal Station. My room was on the top floor, big and cosy, with a comfortable bed, fridge, kettle and coffee machine. A table, armchair, sofa and a large wardrobe completed the pieces of furniture, while the room offered a nice view of the canal. Overall, the hotel is very well taken care of and squeaky clean, so it was easy to feel at home. Monique was a very friendly host, with always a kind word for guests. Hart van Leiden is strongly recommended for anyone visiting Leiden as well as Amsterdam.

Great visit exploring Leiden, so easy to get anywhere from this location including Leiden Centraal station.

B&B Hart Leiden was a perfect place to stay. Very central to everything and ideal for what we needed while here. Our host was very pleasant and friendly, had some cold drinks in the fridge and very easy to communicate with when needed.

Nothing that we can think of, was perfect for our needs.
