Good for an overnight stay but room quite small and noisy within the building.
Very central and close to shops in centre. The room was unstaffed but access was easy.
It’s a long way to parking if you have cases or large bags. Walls are very thin so hear people in other rooms and bathroom fans going.

Dreadful. Unable to sleep.
The noise and light pollution from a security light which shone directly into the room. Noise from an air conditioning unit placed right next to the window of the room. No double glazing.

Fantastic location, bar downstairs lots of fun.
Great location and comfortable bed. Lots of stairs but for us not a problem.
The toilet made very weird whistling noises and was loud during the night. Car parking further away than indicated.

Comfortable, central perfect for a visit to Ambleside
Very central for our needs. Comfortable room with everything provided good quality fixtures and fittings.
Sadly did not realise the possibility of being on a high floor with no lift . Free parking a bonus albeit parking some distance away

Customer misfit.
If I had known there were 61 stairs to climb to my room, plus the site is unmanned and I hadn't been given door entry codes. When I received the codes, the front door wouldn't open! The electric towel rail didn't work. I couldn't find the switch for it!
Generous size rooms. The bathroom was across the landing.
Being older and currently experiencing sore knees and feet things were not ideal.
Site being unmanned and codes not working. Man from next door sorted things out but I felt I was being a nuisance to him.

Good location, noisy and smelly.
The location was really good in the centre.
Parking, there was no spaces so had to park in the main car park.
My room was next to the extractor fan for the take away below, so there was constant noise all night, and constant smell of take away.
The venue in general had some really bad smells, and constant noise all night. There was only a tiny fan to keep you cool or have the window open.

Literally stay anywhere else but here!
Good location, and initial comms were good, but the rest is poor. Avoid a stay here. Literally stay anywhere else in Ambleside!
It wasn't clean.
Shower was a dribble and not constant temperature.
Window led to back of Lily Bar and was noisy to after midnight.
No air con.
Poor natural light.
Room very small compared to others in ambleside.
Massively over priced for a very basic stay.
No breakfast.
Electronic locks were temperamental.
Blind was broken.
State of room in general was neglected and poor.
Walls paper thin, I actually heard my neighbours bowel movements on the toilet as it was next to my bed!

Good value for money. Very central location!
Location was great. Definitely good value for money. Easy check in process. Room was very spacious.
Parking was a little far from the property. Fan that was provided made an awful noice which made it unusable at times. We stayed when it was up to 30 degrees which was not ideal.

Good value for money in Lake District.
Very good location, we stayed one night and had a good sleep. Big plus for a free car park (it's not so close to the building though, you need to have a walk to the parking). Big bathroom for our room. Good value for money in Lake District.
Carpets everywhere which amazes me in England - there were even carpets on the stairs and at the entrance to the building. It's impossible to keep them properly clean.

Great hidden place very centrally located.
Great location, comfy bed, easy check in and check out. Clean room. Parking included.
Not that it was a bad thing but there was no information about what time check out was. From what I saw anyway.

Everything as promised, excellent value for money.
Very central location. We had a busy day kayaking on Grasmere and enjoyed our own private little party in our room as a family. Next day was perfect for wondering around Ambleside, a fairytale town.

Short stay
Great location for all amenities in Ambleside and a great base for local walks and transport. We have stayed here before, and the property is clean and spacious with great housekeeping and a good supply of tea, coffee, and hot chocolate.
Nothing.

Excellent location and thoughtful conveniences. It’s an ideal choice for a short and enjoyable stay.
I had stay at this hotel, perfectly situated in the heart of the town center. Its prime location makes it incredibly convenient, with the supermarket, restaurants, and other local attractions all within walking distance. The small-town setting adds a unique charm and makes exploring the area a truly enjoyable experience.
The room features a modern electronic lock system, and the owner promptly provided the passcode via message and email, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free check-in process.
For two people, the room size was cozy and perfectly adequate. Though slightly compact, this is typical for accommodations in old town areas and contributes to the authentic experience of staying in such a quaint and historic location.
The hotel offers free parking, which is a great perk. But the parking is located a bit farther away.

Good Value if you like a town centre location and live music.
Town centre location. Good communication with the owner. Everyone in all the pubs and shops was really friendly. Big clean bathroom.
If you want quiet. Look elsewhere. As other reviews have stated. It gets a bit noisy late at night as you are above a pub with live music. It was hot when we stayed and the top floor room we were in, only has one small window and a small fan. But we weren't expecting the Ritz for the price we paid.
5.0 / 10.0
perfect central location, needs some attention but adequate for a 2 night stay.
the room was adequate, surface clean and no mould or faults with the room, suitable for the two nights that we stayed, maid came and asked if we needed extra tea and coffee and assisted us the first day when we could not use the key code correctly, the hack i found was to press one number button once and then the actual numbers work after that. It is very central and you can walk around town easily and quickly due to its location.
they say that first impressions count, as you enter the main entrance the ground floor smells very strongly of dog odour, the entrance needs to have a good clean to get rid of the smell as it emanates all up the stairs. the door locks are difficult to manage and one a few occasions it took us more than 5 attempts to get it right, i mastered it on the final day. i had to help and show others how to gain entry after clarifying they had a booking. The shower was very intermittent, hot or cold but no middle ground, perhaps some explanations for people on how to achieve the optimum would help. During the summer despite having a fan in the room it was excruciatingly hot ( we were there on the hottest day in june) due to the nature of the town and it being on the roadside there are cars, motorbikes and loud people therefore you cant have the window open when sleeping. also you are two doors away from Lilys bar where they have live music and people partying until 0100 on weekends, with the window shut we couldnt hear it

Not too sure what you could do about the unpleasant odour coming from the toilet.a longer cord for the kettle to be able to use it on the desk on the tray.

Other guests are being loud and disrespectful
Location to amenities
Other guests continue to make noise and no consideration for other guests. This went on all evening from 5pm until 12:45am. I sent messages via booking.com in an attend to contact the owners as this is a self check in hotel. Eventually at 12:40am I managed to get the attention of the staff in Lily's and they confirmed they own the accommodation. Credit to the owners, they immediately attended the room with the noisey guests that were disturbing the peace and the owner made it quite clear that it's very late and their behavior won't be tolerated any longer.
The noise stopped, but it would be 2 or 3 hours before we Eventually managed to sleep.
Very tired today now 😴 🤷♂️

Not expensive but you understand why!
One of the cheap accomodations arounds.
Staff was really helpful and responsive when we needed them
Very badly and cheaply maintained. Lots of stuff damaged and not if a good state.
No room cleaning during the stay.
Place is located on top of a pub which has gigs at night until midnight. And rooms are not well insulated.
Beds have cheap spring mattresses and are noisy.

Lack of nearby parking and strange smell in hallway

Good locations but small rooms with basic amenities
Great location, and had everything we needed for the small trip
No storage for our clothes, room was a lot smaller than the photos (guess you used wide angle lenses for the photos which is deceiving) and there were false nails on the top of our bed frame when arriving so worry to room wasn’t properly cleaned before we arrived.

Tip: when unlocking doors only touch the numbers and the # symbol on the handle.
I stayed for two nights at Ambleside Central (Sunday 13th and Monday 14th April 2025) and was happy with my time there. I stayed in room 7, which was at the rear of the property, which meant it was quiet. The building is located on Lake Road, which is often busy with traffic for most of the day, so if your room is front facing, you will probably hear traffic from your room and hear people walking and conversing along the street.
To find Ambleside Central, if arriving by bus, do the following: when you arrive at the main bus interchange at Ambleside (where there are two bus shelters), simply walk up to the top of that road and you are on Lake Road, then turn left and across the road you will see the main door to Ambleside Central, beside a fish and chip shop, called the Codfather. There is a sign right next to the door indicating it is Ambleside Central. The Lily Bar is to the right of the fish and chip shop. Ambleside Central is very easy to find.
On the day I was due to check in at Ambleside Central, I was given two codes by text message on Whatsapp. Each code has a set of four numbers ending with a hashtag symbol #. I received them around 3pm, once my room was ready. The first code is for entering the main front door to the building and the second code is for entering the room where you will be sleeping. There are no keys and no-one to greet you when you arrive, though sometimes there are cleaning staff still around. The door will make a buzzing noise when unlocked.
The door handles are modern, hi-tech and black in colour and have numbers on them. When you press a number on the door handle, all the numbers suddenly activate and light up clearly in blue – which indicates it’s ready for you to enter your code number. For entering your room, you press the relevant numbers to enter your code number and end it with the hashtag # symbol and then lift the handle up completely and push it down completely – but do not be rough with it. Then you enter your room.
It would be nice if there was a reception area where someone could greet you and check you in.

Fab location to stay
The location was fantastic, a short walk from the centre of town. The room itself was modern and clean. We had a small issue which the staff rectified within minutes, thank you very much. The check-in instructions sent via WhatsApp were clear and as there is no reception, we were able to access our room with no issues.
The corridors and communal areas of the building had a very unpleasant smell - I think the management is aware of this as there were a few diffusers dotted about, but unfortunately, they did not get rid of the smell. Be aware that the rooms are quite small, and with two suitcases in there, there was no space to move. The walls were very thin, we could hear our neighbours' every word, including their snoring all night, which meant we did not sleep well at all. Finally, the mattress was not the most comfortable, we could feel each individual spring when lying down.
5.0 / 10.0
Adequate for a quick overnight, longer stray would be unpleasant.
The room and en-suite were clean and the bed was fairly comfortable. The location is excellent for the all the in town amenities and the bus station. Green LED lights lit up the room and bathroom at night so I didn't need to switch a light on for overnight toilet use. There were sockets near the bed!
On entering the property there was a foul smell in the hallway, as if something had died there. In the room the bathroom had no ventilation and smelled damp. Why were there no hand towels? The tea making tray was adequate but the kettle lead barely reached the nearest plug which was not near the tray. Having to unplug the kettle to fill it or make hot drinks is inadequate and dangerous, new cordless one needed. The tiny TV was useless, the remote did not work and when turned on the TV had such a poor picture it was unwatchable. Outside the window the outlook could be improved by refurbishing the decked area. There is a gape where the top and bottom sash windows meet so huge that I could fit my fingers in it! No wonder noise and smells from outside permeated. There is no soundproofing between rooms, I was woken by my neighbour's alarm one morning! The room was only part serviced, well the bin was emptied. Nothing else done, tea tray not replenished, bed not straightened, towels not straightened. It feels like the owners don't really care about the place.
