Very close to where we needed to be but the hotel needs updating

The location was excellent and I could park outside the hotel

The bedroom was dated, very odd in the bathroom , toilet and shower were raised up like on a stage , I presume for the pipe work, but anyone with mobility issues would struggle between the large step down and the gap between bathroom sink and the wall. The breakfast wasn’t great, very basic choices , all self serve needs a new toaster the setting was taped up so you couldn’t adjust it . Only saw 1 staff the whole visit , the entrance and dining room were in keeping with the style of the building, but everything else needs updating.

Worst stay of our lives

The hotel was unclean and unsafe. We had to check out early and have asked for a refund, which they are ignoring us about. 6 of us booked 3 rooms, all were filthy, the bedding was smelly, there were cobwebs everywhere, they were stains and questionable marks in all the bathrooms. The marble staircase was unsafe with no safety bannister on an open side. The breakfast would not meet environmental health or hygiene standards. It was stale, and there were no lids on anything, and when breakfast was over, it was left out for the next day with a cloth over it. We couldn't stay a moment longer and checked out a day early. I am waiting for them to reply to send us a full refund for this truly disgusting hotel. Avoid this hotel.

Clean room and a good breakfast. Good location close to the city centre

There is no access for disabled people. The entrance steps can not be accessed by a wheelchair chair, and unlike other premises in the area, no ramp was provided, and the proprietor provided no help. I informed the hotel of my friends disability weeks before our visit and no mention was made of the restricted access. Bizarrely, the hotel has a disabled toilet on the premises.

Hovel. I left asap. Moved hotel to a clean, 3 star hotel as soon as I could the next morning.

The location was good hence the 1 star rating. Luckily there were many other hotels to choose from when I had to leave after spending one hellish night in this hotel. The one staff member I met was pleasant but ineffective and let’s be honest - if you care about guests, you clean the room and bedding and towels BEFORE they arrive. They should not describe themselves as a hotel and Booking dot com are incredibly poor at customer service. They still have not resolved the refund issue. However, with TLC, a few tweaks and a very good cleaner, this would be a good two star B&B.

Filthy, needed updating, potentially unsafe. An absolute disgrace of a room to present to any guest. They have limited availability (4-8) and a number to call which was unanswered for several attempts. Polite reception on arrival. First set of stairs - the stairs are open but the handrail is loose at the top. The second set of stairs presented a hazard as they put me in the room at the top of them, meaning I had to step down the steps to open and close the door, which is particularly difficult if the light is off (it’s behind the door) and you miss your footing. The bedroom windowsill had feathers on amidst the dust and cobwebs, and the floor was sticky, as was the remote control and the desk. The bedding was stained and not washed properly, so I resolved to sleep on a towel but the towels were even dirtier, so I just did not sleep. The shower rail was fixed on with tape and the bathroom floor looked absolutely filthy, I suspect it simply had not been cleaned properly for some time as the toilet seat had not either. This was an absolute disgrace to call it a hotel and to give a guest a room in this state. I tried to email and tried to call, when one of my many calls was answered the person didn’t speak. As soon as there was daylight, I moved to a three star hotel which had clean bedding, clean towels, staff, and a reception that answered, as well as non-sticky floors and no stains. I have still not received a refund for the two days I did not stay. I felt that I could have argued for a full refund due to the state of the room, but decided to try to be fair and requested the two night refund for the time I did not stay there (I had to remain there overnight while I found a hotel for the next morning). Still nothing back, not even a sincere apology for the inconvenience they caused. Any place of business where you pay for a room should provide as a minimum a bed that is fitted with clean sheets/bedding, and a room which has been cleaned.

Very central location just off the main square near the Menin Gate and museums, plenty of restaurants nearby lovely spot .The owner ,manager was so helpful that he went out of his way to get information about taxis train timetables ,also the buffet breakfast was amazing will be back in the future

Great location. Host very helpful and polite. Very close to the square and local shops.. Bike parking was secure (Garage at back of hotel) Breakfast was good but could have done with a little bit of fruit but thats just our prefence However you can not beat the location and the pleasent staff.

Very oudated and tired looking. Our room was quite dirty with dust and a few stains. Safe did not work and some of the drawers nailed shut. No tea coffee in room .

The motorcycle parking was secure. The owner was very friendly happy and obliging The breakfast room was beautifully kept in near original design. The breakfast was continental, plentiful, and good quality.

It is in the centre of Ypres but that is all that is good about Alliance Hotel.

Small, cold and sparsely furnished room. Badly lit. I left my coat and when it came to posting it to me the manager refused to do anything to help. (This was despite me paying for two rooms which they refused to even partly reimburse when I tried to cancel one room the week before.) In the end someone collected my coat and posted it to me. Mean and unhelpful management. Money grabbers. Poor service, bad room. Avoid this hotel.

First and definitely our last stay at the Alliance Hotel

The only positive for this hotel is its location just off the main square. The breakfast was very limited and just about acceptable. Nothing else positive about this hotel.

The wardrobe in the room had one door held on by only one hinge, the rest of the door was taped to the sides, so could not be opened. There were cracks in one window, covered by Sellotape. The unit the TV stood on had three draws...all nailed closed. The bathroom had one small square of hand soap and two small sachets of shower gel. I could have blown hotter air than hair dryer. The hotel needs new owners, investment and a total refurbishment.

Lovely hotel... a former doctor's residence. Great, great location!

We were lucky enough to find parking in front of the hotel. It is free from 6PM to 9AM. We did not mind going back to keep the meter happy because the hotel is close to everything we wanted to see in Ypres, including the ceremony at the Meniin Gate. Free parking is about a 20 minute walk away.
