Sakura Terrace The Gallery

Absolutely the best of all the hotels we stayed at in Japan. The location is excellent — on a quiet street, yet just a minute from a 7-Eleven and about three minutes from the train station. There’s also a shopping mall within a five-minute walk, and the main tourist attractions are all a short and surprisingly reasonably priced taxi ride away. The terrace is a real highlight, with a great layout that somehow feels more Mediterranean than Japanese. Free drinks in the evening, live music and comfortable outdoor seating make it genuinely easy to relax after a long day of sightseeing. The staff were lovely, the price was excellent for what you get, and the whole place just works. Of all the hotels we stayed at in Japan, this is the one I would happily come back to.

There is definitely enough space to fit some proper storage or a small closet in these rooms — someone simply decided not to, and I’m genuinely not sure why. It’s a surprisingly strange omission in an otherwise extremely well-designed hotel. The only reason this is a 9/10 rather than a 10/10.

Clean and 5 min walk to Kyoto station. Main bus terminal also within an 8 min walk. Shopping mall 5 mins away. Can’t beat the location! Free washer and dryer. Massage chairs.

Please dont go there if you are a family of more than 4. They don’t let you sit in groups of more than 4 in common areas and you have to sign that agreement too. The welcome drinks are below average at best. They will not do an early check in and give any grace period for late checkouts unless you pay 3000Y per hour. They also can’t forward luggage if it’s being forwarded to an Airbnb.
