Momijiya Annex

10/10, would recommend. I chose Momijiya Annex as the pictures showed a wonderful location with tranquil landscape. What I got was just as expected and even more. The ryokan has a free shuttlebus which you need to reserve which can be done using the booking.com chat. It is super easy and make the trip to the ryokan a breeze. I had a rugsack with me but they accomodate heavier luggage as well. The ryokan it self was amazing. The hospitality was excellent and you felt the true ryokan experience as soon as you stepped out of the bus. The staff is super nice and are well-versed in english enough that I had no language problem. The facilities are amazing. The public bath is nice and clean, you have what you need, the water is perfect and you don't need to provide anything as they have what you need. I booked the room with a private open bath which gave an extra oomph to the ryokan experience. The bath was preheated by the staff and you could sit in the bath for hours just listening to nature and relaxing. The dinner and breakfast was super traditionel japanese which was delicious. The dinner is multiple courses while the breakfast is singular. The dinner location is down by the river in a open, but roofed, building. All in all a perfect experience for me. Would at any time recommend this place to anyone going to Japan and if I was going to Kyoto again I would go there again.

I would love a mosquito incense burner at the private open bath. I could expect them to borrow one if I asked.

The location being away from the city is exceptional. Ideal for a few days of slow and quiet nature walks.

Beautiful traditional ryokan in an incredible location with beautiful traditional rooms. The hotel is located within the hilly forests north of Kyoto and it was extremely beautiful and peaceful. The staff were so helpful, caring and informative. Included a free shuttle bus to Kyoto and back every morning and afternoon. The food was brilliant, traditional Japanese food. Private onsen was also very good.
