The Farthings

There was a wide selection of breakfast from cereals, fruit and juices, also a good selection of cooked breakfast.

Towels for after having a shower could have been larger.

Excellent breakfast with plenty of gluten free options. Helen, the host was lovely, very helpful and welcoming.

The organisation by The Farthings of a permit enabling us to park in their street for the duration of our stay was highly appreciated. The property was within doable walking distance of York city centre, using the nearby city wall ramparts as a path and after taking bearings using the city street map. The property and room were clean with adequate facilities. The staff, in particular the proprietor, were very obliging and helpful throughout our stay. The breakfast choices were generally of a high standard.

I would have appreciated having the choice of sourdough or single grain bread, and butter (instead of margarine or "Lurpak") for breakfast. In our room (ground floor) noise from the non-letting part of the ground floor was occasionally intrusively audible during the day and early evening, interfering with plans for daytime resting/an early night, but was not an issue otherwise.

Friendly staff and a superb breakfast in the morning, which had high quality ingredients and a good sized portions. Nice touches like mini biscuits and hot chocolate in room refreshments. It is all located in a nice property.

Top floor is steep to access, and rooms there get very hot in warm weather. Breakfast time slot booking system is a bit limiting unless you're in quick if you have limited flexibility.
