Super location, super room, super host, great value.

Location perfect for pubs and restaurants in Barbican area. Beautiful room, great heating, super bathroom, was met by host at the door when we arrived, free parking, lounge we could use with tea/coffee making.

Maybe add a couple of hooks on wall in room to hang coats etc. Otherwise perfect.

Stairs!! We were up 3 flights of narrow stairs. We transferred some luggage into an overnight bag because it would have been too difficult to take our bags up.

Arrived early and was given the key to the room and access to parking with no problem. Super accommodating business and very friendly owners. Couple of minutes walk to the Barbican and about 10 mins walk to Drake circus.

COLD!

Okay, several reviews have mentioned the plusses: the central location and the onsite parking, the cleanliness etc. All of those I would agree with. There have been some negatives around the parking but although, yes, it is a bit tight, any reasonably competent driver should be able to park with ease. The proprietors whom we met briefly at the start of our stay seemed friendly and helpful. The room was clean, smelled nice and had a spotless bathroom with towels, toiletries etc. There were well-stocked tea- and coffee-making facilities in the room which was augmented by a downstairs kitchen with a larger range of teas and also croisssants. Although there was no breakfast I don't understand why reviewers have complained about this as it quite clearly states in the booking conditions that there's no breakfast provided, so why is this an issue for some people?

So ... We stayed in the winter [December] and the room was COLD! The room had one small radiator which in itself was inadequate but this was compounded by the fact that it quite obviously needed bleeding: the top two-thirds were stone cold and only the lower third was at all warm. The floors were laminate which might be nice in the summer but were freezing cold in the winter when we stayed. The room itself was very small and there was essentially nowhere to hang your clothes - yes there's a tiny alcove next to the bed with a clothes rail but this was way too small for two people. So you wouldn't, for example, want to stay here any length of time even in the summer [I definitely wouldn't recommend it in the winter]. The bathroom has no heated towelrail nor, indeed, anywhere to hang your towel - certainly not on the small semi-cold radiator in the room [see above]. There was no bin in the bathroom so you had constantly to use the one in the main room; I suppose we could have relocated the bin into the bathroom, but why not just provide an extra bin? Am I being picky? I hope not: these points make all the difference between a satisfied and unsatisfied customer. I appreciate not much can be done about the room size but the other issues I raise are relatively easily addressed. So: put carpet down, install a bigger radiator [and if it's not too much trouble, bleed it regularly!], put a heated towelrail in the bathroom and put a bin in there as well. Not rocket science, is it?

Ideal location for exploring Plymouth and listening to the Seagulls. I hope to stay here again.

Location is prime as is the ability to park next to the Island Lodge. The room was warm and it had a great shower. Loved the sound of seagulls right outside.

Wifi was weak and there wasn't much space in the room. While the decorations are nice, a few less would give more space for guest items.

Our stay was very relaxing the B&B was lovely great atmosphere

There was no breakfast but we knew that but, there was a communal area you could make your own driinks and food if needed and there was croissants and fruit provided by the hosts and little bags of sweets and tea and coffee, and you could use the fridge and freezer so that was good the hosts were amazing parking was ideal and area was great, very clean ,we will definitely visit again.

We found it very difficult leaving our cups and plates etc in the communal area for the hosts to wash up ,it would be good to have had some hand gel or wipes in communal area as no sink to be able to clean your hands after eating and preparing a drink ,but apart from that there is nothing else no to like about the B&B

Brilliant hotel that I won’t forget. A wonderful stay!

The host went above and beyond. The communal space allowed myself and my mum to catch up properly with my family (who stayed in the same hotel). There were a few little treats that added to the experience and the whole hotel had a beautiful finish with a style that ran through beautifully.

Parking was tricky as I’m used to easy city driving (although the host was very helpful)

I think bigger towels would be something I would suggest as an improvement. I’m a thin man but I felt like the towels didn’t really cover much of my body so it must be worse for a woman who typically covers more of their bodies with towels. Maybe a full length mirror in the corner would be a lovely addition.

I liked everything about Island Lodge, the location was fabulous, just steps away from the Barbican, the room was very clean and comfortable, the eu-suit was immaculate, towels changed daily, The host met me and showed me where to park and to my room, even though I was much later than my expected arrival time. There are facilities to make your selves food and a place to eat with extra tea's, coffee and milk and a few snacks, which was an added bonus that I thought was great. I would definately stay there again.

A cosy gem

Free parking, double room was neat and clean. Our son was very happy and appreciated his single room and said it was comfortable. Proximity to the Marina harbour with choices of restaurants, cafes, museums, bars, the harbour, the Hoe for great walks. We enjoyed the terrace with the view in the early morning 🌞 listening to the church bells. The owner was very friendly and super accommodating with parking. Thank you, we will come back for sure! The Elisabethan gardens within footsteps of Island Lodge is a calm and beautiful free place to walk through with a view of the Mad Merchants Coffee House just underneath, .(well recommended for coffee or food) Jacka bakery on Southside Street for delicious cinnamon buns, croissants and breads.
