COLIVAULT

TL;DR: A beautiful château where you feel thoroughly spoiled and immediately among friends. The highlight of our trip to France. We spent ten days in France in June, including Paris and the Palace of Versailles, and Colivault is the place we keep talking about. After a long overnight flight, Sophie and Richard’s welcome felt like a breath of fresh air. They treated us like friends from the moment we arrived. We loved hearing their stories about the property and their lives, and their staff brought that same kindness to our stay. Everyone made us feel looked after. With temperatures exceeding 104°F during our visit, a cool, comfortable room mattered enormously. Ours felt wonderful. The decor was beautiful, the toiletries luxurious, and the complimentary champagne for my birthday such a lovely surprise. Nothing felt impersonal. The grounds give you plenty of reasons to spend a day doing very little: gardens, horses in the pastures, the orangery, two adorable dogs, and a beautiful pool. Aperol spritzes by the water at golden hour—that is the moment I would go back for. As an American who had spent years imagining the French Loire Valley countryside, I felt like I had finally stepped into it. And the food! Delicious meals, beautiful dishes, and tables set with such care. Give yourself time to sit, eat, and enjoy it all. Those meals became some of our favorite memories. For exploring, we found sculpture gardens, historic sites, and restaurants conveniently close, along with practical stops for groceries and gas. My advice, though: leave room in your itinerary to enjoy Colivault itself. You will want more time here than you think. Sophie and Richard, thank you for making my birthday so special. The beauty of your home drew us in; your hospitality made leaving difficult. Merci beaucoup et à bientôt! Book the extra night if you can. You will wish you had—I know we did!

Nothing. I didn’t like when we had to leave for the next leg of our trip , but we will be back!

we had a pleasant stay in Colivault and will definitely come back one day. thanks for the hospitality, the breakfast in the garden, the small talk, the pool etc. etc. we really felt like: to live like God in France :-) all the best from Germany and see you one day again!

We stayed in “La Petite Colivault”, a separate little cottage next to the main house. The accommodation is incredibly comfortable and brilliant for a family of 4 like ours. But it’s the grounds, and above all else Richard, who make a stay at Colivault so special. It’s quiet, stunning snd relaxing, and richard goes to every length possible - especially with kids - to ensure everyone has a happy tome and falls in love with Colivault.

Hospitality is very high, beautiful surrounding and lovely details.

Just good to know, just inform the owner if you are traveling with a dog.
