Great location and spacious, clean and comfortable rooms.

Room was very spacious and clean Bed was large and comfortable Linen was immaculate Bathroom was very clean Staff were friendly

Nightmare stay absolutely disappointed.

The property was beautiful.

We paid for a suite and first night air-con stuck blowing cold air no heating working in top left of hotel so I was told by duty manager. Second day same problem so we had two electric heaters brought to room which finally warmed up around midnight. Freezing cold paying £570 not good enough I woke up second day with sore throat and cough. Second day at breakfast over an hour waiting for food people came in after and got served so we walked out of restaurant. Whole weekend has been a disaster.

Stay was pleasant, very friendly staff.

Location was great, close to city centre.

Was disappointed that the swimming pool facility was closed and was told this when we arrived. That we had to pay £20 for parking on the premises. Never enough milk pods.

Would not recommend this hotel

Breakfast was excellent with very friendly staff couldn’t fault it, would recommend the restaurant.

Reception was very poor, lots of screaming kids and families and undesirable people laying on the floor in reception area, looked like a youth hostel not a supposed good class of hotel you usually find in a hotel that charges £300 per night. This is obviously an everyday occurrence here as reception staff didn’t bat an eyelid at the total chaos that was happening in the reception area! I appreciate it was NYE but surely for paying guests comfort this issue which continued throughout our stay is unacceptable. I regularly use York Malmaison and this has never happened before but feel for the price I payed service I received was very poor. Not at all what I was expecting for my stay at your hotel and as this issue wasn’t addressed by staff would leave me no option to leave a poor review.

Stylish hotel and great value

Location, quirky decor, parking great. Nice selection of tea/coffee in the room 👍 Able to check out and leave bags for a few hours so we could explore the shops for a bit.

Bed wasn’t very comfortable (too firm) and pillows a little thin but that’s just my preference. . A little more power in the shower would have been nice but just minor things.

Lovely stay, modern newly refurbished rooms, lovely breakfast and staff very friendly.

Rooms have been newly refurbished and are of a high quality.

Had a delay in booking, this was due to a computer system change. It took longer to check, although the receptionist was very good and as way of compensation he gave me free car parking.

Enjoyable stay that met expectations.

The location was just where we wanted and the nearby parking was a bonus. We like the historic building. The bedroom was large and bed was very comfortable.

I didn’t particularly like the dark grey decor. The overall effect was rather dull and dark. Areas of the room such as the wardrobe area were poorly lit. The dining room was quite empty and lacked atmosphere though the service was great.

Beautiful view from room; helpful staff except the man in the downstairs bar on monday night around 7pm was quite curt. Cafe staff and housekeeping all lovely

room was generally quiet at the end of a corridor, but on the first morning i woke up to a v loud tv noise from the next door room...so either not v sound proof or the tv was on way too loud.

Comfortable stay by the Tyne.

Good location on the river. Nice bar, with attentive waiter service. The breakfast was very good - freshly cooked hot dishes which makes such a difference to a buffet. The service level in general was high - at the bar and at breakfast. Worth paying for.

It was cold outside when we were there. Better attention to heating would have made the experience even more comfortable.

Located quite far from city centre.Hotel seemed to be short of supplies in rooms teabags/sugar and the like.The bar didn’t have miso syrup for an advertised promotion.Breakfast was excellent but again we had to ask for marmalade a staple for breakfast.

Loved the option to swap housekeeping for a drink at the bar. Only there one night, so a great option. Great decor. Great staff.

Very disappointing

We have stayed at Mal Maison in York Leeds Liverpool and Newcastle many times which have all been excellent but disappointing this visit

Bath tap temperature control came off in my hand so water was extremely hot. I had to cool bath water with plastic cups of cold water from the sink. My sister and I went out for the day and room hadn’t been cleaned on our return. Thus morning there wasn’t any hot water so both mornings we had difficulty. We’ve stayed at Mal Maison many many times but if this had been our first visit we would be reluctant to return.
