We will definitely return to this hotel

Joanna was really helpful remembered both our names. We arrived early and were shown the room at 9am as we had planned to arrive early and go for a walk and was hoping the room would be ready when we got back so that was a bonus that didn't need to worry about timing it for check in. They were also flexible with the cooked breakfast as I asked if I could get a bacon sandwich as wasn't feeling great and they accommodated my request no issues. Constant hot water available, parking and good location for the village

Comfortable stay in a great location

The location is great, close to the centre of Ambleside on one side and walks by the river on the other. The room was spotlessly clean, and the staff were excellent throughout. The breakfast was very good in a large room.

The room was perfectly fine and comfortable, but a bigger one would have been preferable. The breakfast was very good, but technically I had an egg benedict!

Overnight stay to break journey from Somerset to Scotland.

This is the second time we have stayed at Rothay Garth. On the previous occasion we had quite a small room. This time we had a really spacious room with a four poster bed, a sofa and a jacuzzi bath. It also had its own private entrance. It was very warm, comfortable and we had an excellent night’s sleep. We were warmly welcomed once again by Joanna who remembered us from our previous stay. The breakfast in the morning in the conservatory was lovely and served very promptly. We highly recommend Rothay Garth and will definitely return ourselves.

Friendly staff, great location, spotlessly clean!

The set up for our breakfast was an absolute shocker! 2 of us and our dog were guided to a low 2 seater sofa and a small coffee table was our table, while another couple were seated at the other normal breakfast table beside us! Hosts really need to think this through if this is normal practice as felt like total imposters at service! On hindsight should have refused to accept this table!

Such a cosy welcoming place to stay. The room was really comfortable and had everything we needed. Breakfast was substantial and delicious but the main stand out is the staff, super friendly and lovely to talk to, they made us feel very welcome and comfortable.

Perfect location with rare parking on site. The room was beautifully decorated with plenty of space. Everything was very clean. The breakfast really was very good!

It’s a converted Victorian house, so you do have to expect some compromises. The walls of the rooms are quite thin and you can hear quite a lot from neighbouring rooms. It didn’t affect my stay too much hence the high rating, but if you are a light sleeper you can hear coughing and snoring from other rooms. The shower also wasnt the best, it does the job was a bit hit and miss with pressure and heat. I would definitely stay here again however

Lovely stay and would definitely return there

Large comfortable bedroom and the bathroom had a bath which is something I love. Really good communal areas, especially the breakfast room. Spare drink provisions left on the reception desk. The staff were really friendly and helpful, they were able to provide me with a packed breakfast as I was out early. I was able to use the breakfast room the next day and there was a great choice.

My room was above the kitchen so started getting noisy quite early!

Staff friendly and helpful. A homely building which was clean and welcoming. Room and bathroom was clean. A good variety but not excessive choice for breakfast which is useful for those that have trouble choosing. Although a bigger b&b and seemed busy it wasn't excessively noisy.

Room felt like it was a cupboard, as the door opened outwards, it was also too small for 2 people sharing and so was bed. Marks on the bedding. Was a cold evening and unable to adjust heating. Poor amount and placement of sockets. Bathroom window didnt open and extractor fan wasn't working. Room and bathroom looked tired (paper on ceiling starting to peel off). Table we had for breakfast was a pull out/spare variety unlike all others and was also situated in front of a fire exit.

Not easy in and out of tub and difficult to turn shower on and off. I wish the lounge had been able to use after 8 PM as there wasn’t a comfy chair in the room for reading

The gardens were an absolute mess and gave a very poor first impression. No fridge or safe in the room. We had to make our own bed and replenish our tea and coffee and the carafe of water wasn't sealed. It definitely wasn't worth what we paid.
