Great location, excellent price & parking

Great location with the added advantage of parking. Lovely old property. Room was comfortable, bed was comfortable and room was lovely and warm. Breakfast as good with various options. Staff were friendly.

Lovely weekend - would happily stay at Rothay Garth again.

The breakfast was good. Staff were lovely & friendly & very attentive. We wanted to look around Ambleside after checkout & they were happy for us to keep our car there until lunchtime. There was a nice, cosy feel to the place & a lovely room to relax in during the evening.

We stayed in a small double and we would probably book something a little bigger next time. The room was beautiful but, with all our outdoor gear, we should probably have anticipated needing a little more space. This was our mistake.

Nice and comfortable

We had a room to the side of the man house , it was very pleasant and comfortable, lovely, clean and large, perfect us as we had a dog

The continental breakfast choice was very poor, one of the worst actually. We both ordered poached eggs, both lots were under cooked and inedible . We didn’t opt for the full English so I can’t comment on that, however there was a couple that left most of their cooked breakfast. It’s such a shame as we enjoyed the room . Staff were lovely

Perfect place to stay in Ambleside to explore this part of the Lakes

Lovely B&B in the heart of Ambleside which also comes with its own private parking. Room was a good size and very clean. Staff were very helpful and my breakfast (eggs royale) was perfectly cooked.

Excellent accommodation in the heart of Ambleside.

Excellent location with free car parking on the premises (essential as Ambleside can be busy). The staff were friendly and accommodating. Good breakfast, which would have been even better if there were nuts or honey to go with the yoghurt.

The room rate was double the normal price as our stay was between Christmas and New Year - but this was known in advance and to be expected at this time of year. The room was comfortable but a little cramped with limited storage space. The water in the shower was a good, adjustable, temperature, but the flow was rather weak. We could hear people in the next room sometimes.

Great service from the team, rooms need updating and food offer needs improving

The welcome was brilliant. Helpful, friendly and professional. Super dog friendly, bowls supplied nothing was stop much trouble. Breakfast staff took the time to know our names at the table which was a nice touch. Offered a ground floor which was good for dogs and also a family room So a nice size.

Sadly the mattress was lumpy and moved my wife when I turned. 2 body shapes on each side with a barrier between. The bed was an old wooden rickety thing that squeaked when you turned. The garden was very small but big enough to service the dogs. Decor a little dated, and the toe nail I found on the floor was grim. Breakfast was not great, small portions on the egg royale one egg one toast. No offer of a vegetarian breakfast.

Joanna was really helpful remembered both our names. We arrived early and were shown the room at 9am as we had planned to arrive early and go for a walk and was hoping the room would be ready when we got back so that was a bonus that didn't need to worry about timing it for check in. They were also flexible with the cooked breakfast as I asked if I could get a bacon sandwich as wasn't feeling great and they accommodated my request no issues. Constant hot water available, parking and good location for the village

Comfortable stay in a great location

The location is great, close to the centre of Ambleside on one side and walks by the river on the other. The room was spotlessly clean, and the staff were excellent throughout. The breakfast was very good in a large room.

The room was perfectly fine and comfortable, but a bigger one would have been preferable. The breakfast was very good, but technically I had an egg benedict!

Overnight stay to break journey from Somerset to Scotland.

This is the second time we have stayed at Rothay Garth. On the previous occasion we had quite a small room. This time we had a really spacious room with a four poster bed, a sofa and a jacuzzi bath. It also had its own private entrance. It was very warm, comfortable and we had an excellent night’s sleep. We were warmly welcomed once again by Joanna who remembered us from our previous stay. The breakfast in the morning in the conservatory was lovely and served very promptly. We highly recommend Rothay Garth and will definitely return ourselves.

Friendly staff, great location, spotlessly clean!

The set up for our breakfast was an absolute shocker! 2 of us and our dog were guided to a low 2 seater sofa and a small coffee table was our table, while another couple were seated at the other normal breakfast table beside us! Hosts really need to think this through if this is normal practice as felt like total imposters at service! On hindsight should have refused to accept this table!
