Exceptional stay

Darren and Debbie were wonderful hosts and the breakfast selection vast, considering that they only cook for a few people every day. The room had all amenities one needs and what I particularly liked was their selection of teas and even hot chocolate in the room.

Perfect location with on-site parking. Wonderful friendly helpful hosts who provide a great breakfast. Everything was thought of and provided in the bedroom and bathroom. Although on the roadside we couldn't hear the traffic at all. Easy to walk to the shops, restaurants and pubs from here. So many lovely places to see close by.

It wasn't that we didn't like it but the bedroom is small and the bathroom compact. We were out all day so not a problem for us but if you need a large bathroom you may struggle.

Would definitely use this place again

Location was just 5 min away from the main street full of shops and restaurants. The owners were very helpful and accommodating. I was impressed to see so many different tea options in our room (usually places don't have any herbal teas - this one had several) and natural (non-toxic) soap and shower gel used by a local brand. The food selection was great. It was a better value for money than many AirBnB options we used before, which didn't even have breakfast included.

The mattress was slightly uncomfortable.

Excellent location for walking into the town, catching the bus or just walking down to the Lake and exploring the area. Plenty of car parking spaces at the accommodation. Lots of choice for breakfast and the hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Would highly recommend for a short stay in the Lakes.

THE place to stay in Ambleside!

Rothay House is a gem in the centre of beautiful Ambleside. Debbie and Darren are the perfect hosts who greet you with a warmth and care that makes you feel at home immediately. The bedroom and ensuite are immaculate and exceptionally clean, and the breakfasts delicious with both continental and full options available. Rothay House is a stones throw from this beautiful Lake District village with all that the area offers. Everything about our stay was perfect … The hosts have thought about everything.. little touches in the room mean a lot … fresh water and plenty of tea , coffee & biscuits . Fantastic weekend away

We stayed at Rothay House for 3 nights over the May bank holiday weekend. What a fabulous place to stay in the heart of Ambleside with so much to do right there on your doorstep. We arrived early to enable us to go for a walk before checking in. We parked in the car park and rang the bell just to let them know that it was our car in the car park. We were allowed to check in right away, which was great. We were shown to our room (room 2) which was such a large room, spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. The beds were really comfy!! The breakfast the following morning was just fabulous, a large selection of cereal, fruit etc plus another large selection of cooked breakfasts, catering for everyone. Darren and Debbie were very warm and welcoming and gave recommendations about the local area. This is an absolute gem of a b&b!! We can't wait to return.
