nice stay, but we wont be coming back sorry

house keeping was excellent , staff was lovely, the hotel was quirky but lovely

the mornings was hell, 5.45 in morning woken up by window cleaner, the road sweeper with the leaf blower every single morning at 6.30. our bedroom had a bathroom from nextdoor backed onto our room so 7 in morning they had a shower and it felt like we were going through a car wash. we even could hear them getting our of the bath. the doorsframe is so gapped the light from the coridoor blares through the door so we had to block it up with pillows and things

Love the hotel and friendly helpful staff. Room was clean and comfortable Used bus for transport once we arrived the station was close bye . We ate evening meal at hotel which was lovely. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff

Wonderful stay and would 100% stay again 😊

The location was perfect, we came to stay as we were running the Barnstaple Half Marathon the following day so only a 10 min walk to the start! Parking was also free (first come first serve) and the food was fab and reasonably priced. Staff were great and very friendly.

Shower could have done with a lot more water pressure but it was at least hot.

Good location to stay in Burnstaple!!!!

Good room with large washroom, very clean and location at the center point. We loved it a lot Front desk officers are very helpful. I will stay again in my November trip and hope to see you all guys, Jacob is great young manager and he is lovely!

Please provide 2 bottles of water every day, it's essential. Sometimes we back late evening after meetings and forget to buy water that makes us stressed!!!

A good hotel with marvellous staff.

The room was in very good decorative order and comfortable and the standout feature of this lovely old hotel is the staff who were most definitely the friendliest, most efficient and well-dressed we have encountered for many years.

It is an old building and the back stairs approach to our room was not very inspiring, but we appreciate these old buildings are difficult to adapt to modern requirements so I would not hold this against the hotel. What we did not appreciate was the 5.30am crashing and banging from the staff arriving and shouting downstairs in kitchen area. Nor did we appreciate the thunderous banging of doors and footsteps along our corridor at 5.30am. That has got to stop. The other downside was the food which was disappointing - I had to return my 'Vietnamese' spring rolls as they were as tough as Bostick and not nearly so appetising and the general feel of the meal was that it was assembled rather than cooked with care. Finally, the parking along the street was a bit inconvenient, especially as it was raining during our stay, but the hotel had clearly done its best to provide nearby parking.

A little disappointed in the breakfast. I had 2 poached eggs on toast. It would have been nice to have a little salad or something with it as they were lost on the plate and £15 was a lot for that and coffee

Exceptional - we would all visit again

Bar staff was exceptional - he went over & beyond to help us & was extremely friendly. In fact most of the staff were fabulous. Bar lounge was comfy & relaxed atmosphere. Carvery was delicious as were the gluten free cakes. Room 1 was very large & comfy. Room 2 was on the smaller side. Bed very comfortable. Loved the history!

Nothing really but if had to say something it would be that the cooling unit very noisy. Carvery - not having gluten free yorkshires, stuffing & sausages plus leek in sauce not gf. Biscuits in room - not having a gluten free option available.

The noise in the late !! evenings from the people walking past from leaving pubs , the building it's self was very noisy ( doors , floor boards constantly banging, this was meant to be a calming couple of days of which it wasn't, and we have also been charge £93. 00 extra for something , and still not received a refund)

Trying to be something it’s not

Very central and had a car park, had a cake and coffee offer on in the lounge, while we waited for the room.

No smart tv in room, very dated furniture. Bed uncomfortable. Had a loud extractor fan, I assume from the kitchens going all evening and kicked back in at 5.30. Shutting the window did not help. Bathroom terribly dated, needs a total refurbishment. Staff were friendly but the hotel has ideas above its station. It’s a two star at most in a run down town.

The staff were great; the room was very clean; but overall disappointing.

The hotel lobby, bar, and dining rooms are all lovely. The staff were extremely helpful, patient and polite. They are a real asset to this hotel & made the stay more positive. The bed itself was clean and comfortable with a matress protector. The room and bathroom were both very clean and cleaned to a high standard. There was parking available for residents. It was first come, first served, and I was lucky to get a space on both nights.

The decor of the hotel upstairs is tired and in need of updating. The decor in my room was also tired and in need of updating. I had a single room next to an elevator. The elevator was very noisy. I could hear the lift moving every time it was used. I needed to use earplugs to drown some of this out. The staff offered a room change to a lower grade room, as the hotel was fully booked. This was very considerate, however when I viewed the lower graded rooms they were in a part of the hotel that smelled quite damp. I therefore did not change rooms. The next morning hotel staff offered to change my room again - I suspect to a better room (this wasn’t specified). I declined as at that stage I had purchased earplugs, managed to sleep, and couldn’t be bothered with the hassle of changing room.

Lovely hotel, shame about the noise.

Nicely decorated rooms with well thought out furniture and plenty of space for our belongings. The hotel had charm and plenty of rooms downstairs to join in the fun or retire with a book to a quiet corner. Good restaurant for dinner or lunch.

We’d asked for a quiet room but our room faced onto the Main Street near a nightclub and rowdy revellers were around till 4 in the morning. It was the same for Friday and Saturday. Whilst I appreciate staff thought it was noisier at the back it clearly wasn’t as my son’s room was at the back and he had no noise apart from a generator. We therefore slept badly both nights which was such a shame as we were there for a lovely family wedding but we had to leave early as we were so tired. Everything else was spot on and the staff couldn’t do enough for us.

This is a really good looking interesting building steeped in history All of the communication from booking to checking in was really welcoming, friendly and helpful We had a very comfortable room and the bar and restaurant area are lovely Had a nightmare parking initially (typical busy England holiday period) but the hotel had sent alternative options in their fab communications, however again same firm used the day before in Worcester was £10 cheaper for the same period It really is an impressive building

The bar prices, we stayed the night before in another town hotel and the drinks were more than 50% cheaper The bath and shower were really intensely hot
