The most magical weekend.

This is truly the most beautiful hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Our room was spectacular — the beds were incredibly comfortable, and the view was stunning (we paid extra for the river view, and it was absolutely worth it). Despite being so close to the town centre, the hotel is wonderfully peaceful — it feels like a hidden retreat in the countryside. I have a gluten intolerance, and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate me. The food was outstanding, and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. This place holds a special meaning for me and my partner, so much so that we’ve already booked to come back for Christmas. A huge thank you to everyone at The Imperial for making our stay so memorable.

I would have liked to be in the main hotel and not in the annex but it was very comfortable in the apartment. We felt slightly that we had put out some of the restaurant staff.

We had an enjoyable stay in this lovely hotel.

Food was superb. Accommodation was extremely comfortable. The location is very convenient for the town, railway station (as we arrived by train) and the bus station: this was our second visit so we explored more of the local area by bus and it was great to find that the bus station was just around the corner.

Nothing that we didn’t like. Rooms were on the same floor but a little far apart, on different corridors, but to be fair I did book late and it wasn’t really a problem.

Very grand old world hotel.

Very expensive for room with double bed (small) instant coffee only, and only limited bathroom extras. Felt like a retirement village on the night we stayed and we are in our 70’s!!

Lovely old building with original features. Room service portions were very generous and with quick service.

Smoked haddock for breakfast was watery and overcooked. Fried breakfast was very good. Staff were very polite and attentive.

Excellent high quality property

Excellent property with impeccable interiors and excellent service from the staff. The location is very convenient from both cars and public transport point of view.

Only small complaint from us would be that there aren't enough electric sockets in the room and there was none near the kettle which had to be kept on the floor to plug in.

Lovely Stay in a Great Location

Fantastic location overlooking the estuary and close to the pretty town centre with lovely shops and a good selection of eateries. There was plenty of parking, and the hotel was easy to find. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful—nothing was too much trouble. Dining options were varied, and the food was both delicious and well priced. Overall, the hotel was clean, tidy, and a pleasant place to stay.

The rooms were quite compact with very firm beds, but we later learned you can request a mattress topper from reception (unfortunately, we only found this out as we were leaving).

An impressive hotel at the heart of Barnstaple. If we lived closer we would be regular diners.

Booked an overnight stay as we were attending a family birthday dinner at the hotel. The food was fine, the ambience of the dining room excellent and the service very efficient.

On checking in and checking out the women on reception almost gave the impression that we were an unwelcome distraction.

Would I stay again? No. For the money they ask you will be better cared for elsewhere.

We booked because it looked a comfortable 4 star establishment where I needed to be and to be fair the interior is well maintained and smart.

Staff seemed to prioritise lunch parties as opposed to guests. I found that I had to ask several members of staff to order drinks and still didn’t get any. In the end I got so tired of waiting I went to another establishment and spent the evening there. From the photos the hotel appears to have gardens however it’s essentially a car park.
