We highly recommend Marnie & Mister H which is owned by Marion, a very friendly and knowledgeable host who gave us plenty of information of things to see in Rennes and beyond. In addition, she is a great cook, during our stay she prepared home made pancakes and pear cake which was served in addition to an already generous breakfast of croissants, pain au chocolat, fruit, yoghurt, bread & jam, cheese & selection of cold meats. The location is excellent in the heart of the old town with so many facilities, sights, restaurants and shops as soon as you stepeout the door. We loved the atmosphere of the 15th/16th Century building with the old staircase and lovely dining room with the unique fireplace. Our room "Oscar" was very clean and the bed & pillows were so comfortable. All the rooms have names rather than numbers which is a nice touch. Our room overlooked a terrace area that guests can use and there was no noise at all, it is a nice quiet location but at the same time very central. We are already looking forward to going back next year. Thank you Marion

Misleading

Pleasant and helpful host

The advertisement on Booking.com was misleading. It read as if the premises was hotel accommodation in the old part of the city.in fact it was the same style as an airBnB

Small but cozy B&B in ancient building.

Small, but cozy and easy to get to in downtown (via Metro from train station). In historic building. Nice breakfast. Convenient luggage storage for departure day. Good value.

Good location.

Great location. There are lots of good restaurants and shops in the area. Warm and helpful staff. We left our luggage there as we arrived early. Spacious room.

Although the building is a historical building, the supplies don't have to be. The towels were a bit worn. This one is probably a personal preference but we found the bed a bit soft.

A Gem of a Hotel in Rennes.

Our host was friendly and helpful. Our room was very comfortable and warm and the breakfast was really good. The hotel was in a great location and we were impressed that we were staying in a building built in 1481 with its huge fireplaces and original staircase.

Great place to stay in the heart of old Rennes

Marion was friendly and very helpful. The bed was very comfortable and breakfasts enjoyable.The medieval house has great character and original features and is surrounded by similar interesting buildings.It is close to many cafes and restaurants. Republic metro station is about 5 mins walk away and connects to the main sncf station.

Bad choice for us but excellent location

Excellent location. Friendly owner.

Very old premises. Difficult stairs to maneuver w luggage. Floors very noisy. No stand up shower in bathroom. No where to put toiletries in bathroom. Beautiful cat in house but unfortunately I have allergies.

Delightful stay with super comfortable large bed

Marnie and Mister H is located in the beautiful medieval part of Rennes in a charming pedestrian street in the centre of town. The room was spacious and the bed super comfortable. Marnie was very helpful. Sadly we didn't have breakfast but the cafe au lait was good.

No proper shower so had to clamber over a high bath to shower. Not good for oldies like us!

Stylish accommodations in a historic house at the heart of Rennes

An ancient house that's thoughtfully and stylishly updated to provide boutique lodging. The proprietor couldn't be nicer and provides an ample breakfast with some special addition she's cooked each morning. The breakfast area is part of a lovely shared living room with an adjoining outdoor terrace. The location is quite central, near the cathedral and other points of interest.

There are lots of steps to the upper floors, which may challenge some guests. I strongly suggest advising about arrival time, which I forgot to do and then had a few moments' uncertainty when I showed up early on a major holiday. I found my room, "Alice," kind of cramped even for one person, though I saw that some other rooms are much larger.

Wonderfully presented, comfortable and quiet historic apartment in the heart of Rennes

Fabulous historic building in centre of old town. Excellent host, huge character filled apartment with very comfortable beds. Generous continental breakfast with quality food. Quiet despite central location. We loved our stay.

Be prepared if driving own car for some time to get to parking garage and navigating old city to drop bags. Hotel very helpful however with instructions. Be prepared to also navigate plenty of steps to get to room. our host however helped with our luggage.

Old world unique charm in a convenient area of the city to get out and about and enjoy your proximity to shops and resta

Old world charm, really unique setting. Location was right in the middle of a nice vibrant area. The church bells tolled and added the perfect touch. The top floor is so unique with great city street views out of the old architecture windows. Beds were comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful!

The stairs up to the third top floor are not for the faint of heart. If you have balance issues or out of shape, we would recommend a lower floor. The stairs are a lovely, gorgeous wood, but because they are so old and uneven, care is needed when climbing. No fault of the old property at all!

An amazing, atmospheric property in the perfect location. Our room was spacious and beautifully appointed. Owner Marion was welcoming and extremely helpful with suggestions on restaurants and attractions. We consider ourselves very lucky to have discovered this real gem.

Feel welcomed staying in the heart of historic Rennes in an authentic half-timbered hotel

Marion was so lovely! She stayed open at the front desk on the day I arrived because my flight got in late. She was very helpful and gave me suggestions for things to do and she helped with my taxi. She made a lovely breakfast as well! I was so impressed! In terms of the property, the hotel is super cool. It is actually one of the 15th century buildings. It felt like I was living in a Shakespearean play :-). The decor is very cute and the room was very comfortable. I would recommend the property to absolutely anyone (although not suitable for wheelchairs). I loved my stay and I was so happy!!! Thank you!

breakfast was fairly good, but I really missed having crunchy bread. The emphasis was on sweet things -- a home-baked cake was offered every day -- but I don't eat sweet things for breakfast and the bread was disappointing.

Great location for a stopover to explore Rennes.

Breakfast was excellent, fruit, crepes, croissants etc . Room was spacious and individual - totally unlike chain hotel rooms.

It was difficult to find by car because of the one-way streets, and very narrow laneways. But worth perservering for.
