Everything! It is obvious how much care has been put in to the property, the service and its maintenance. Claudio and Gabriel were incredible hosts, so kind and caring and keen to ensure we had the best stay possible. We stayed in the Carioca suite which was incredible, beautifully designed and a real retreat. We loved the private plunge pool and the amazing views from so many angles. The location itself is very special — Santa Teresa is a really special place, and Casa Gerânio is nested in the beautiful jungle hill within in. The breakfast was also AMAZING, and they were able to cater for my food intolerances without me feeling like I was missing out. All the staff were also so eager to help and ensure we were well looked after.

Casa Geranio is an absolute gem. The design is incredibly beautiful, with great attention to detail, creating a calm and stylish atmosphere. It’s perfectly located—tucked away from the bustling center, yet everything is still within easy reach and right at your fingertips. The breakfast is delicious, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared, and the service is truly outstanding. A wonderful place to stay that makes you feel welcomed and well cared for.

The breakfast on the terrace was phenomenal! We really loved our stay, really felt like a special start for our holiday in Brasil! We are kinda sorry that we only stayed two nights - could have been more!
The neighbourhood of Santa Teresa is not for beginner travellers, just make sure to follow what the owners tell you to do!

This is the most beautiful place to stay! We enjoyed it so much, we felt safe and everyone was so nice. The owner helped us so much because the airline lost one of our suitcases. He contacted them while we were explaining the city. Thank you so much again. He also gave us so many good recommendations, and whenever we had questions, we could write to him. We absolutely can recommend this beautiful place and I hope we come back one day.

Casa Geranio is a wonderful boutique hotel, in a beautiful old villa nestled against a steep hill. The rooms are situated around a well kept garden. Breakfast is a treat, with fresh fruit, fruit juice and homemade cakes every morning.
Due to its hillside location and the many steps and stairs, this location will be less suitable for people with limited mobility.

Really chill and cozy, perfect to relax and explore Santa Teresa. Well-decorated and gorgeous view.
Friendly and helpful staff.

Stunning hotel in Santa Teresa, the outdoor space with the pool, the lounge and breakfast area is really incredible The owners are wonderful and accommodating and the breakfast is amazing. We loved our stay!
Only downside was the room for us, we had the “blue” room (only one available when we booked) and it lacks some renovation as well as natural light. It is perfectly fine for 2, 3 days but for a longer stay I’d recommend another room.

The tropical pool area was beautiful! The breakfast was a high point every day.

Santa Maria was our favourite area of the city. The facilities are beautiful, set in lush hillside gardens with flowers, hummingbirds, monkeys. The breakfast offered was without exaggeration, marvellous. It's a wonderful oasis in the city.
We had no issue with this, but travellers should be aware that there are a lot of stairs to climb.

Property was absolutely beautiful. As there aren’t too many rooms the experience was very personal.

Beautiful property, all those stairs lead up to an unbeatable view of the city. The breakfast is incredibly delicious and homemade, served by lovely staff.
Spacious room, well designed, and the bed is very comfortable! Bonus: the cutest dog ever.
Small details were missing to match the standard of hotels in a similar price range, such as being charged R$50 to leave our luggage for a few hours after check-out (I thought this would be a given), or a small Issue with the toilet that wasn’t resolved until the next day, with no alternative solution offered in the meantime (although taken care of asap). No soft bedside lighting, toiletries running out here and there in the property, rules felt rather strict…
It was also trickier to find Ubers to and from the location, especially when coming from the touristy beach areas - noticeably more so than during our stay in the south of the city.
And based on other reviews, I get the sense that constructive feedback isn’t always well received.

This is a hidden gem nestled in the hills of bohemian Santa Teresa. It’s a unique property with a relaxed, designer feel and panoramic views of central Rio. The owners and staff are all lovely and made for a wonderful stay.

It’s an amazing experience: the place, the view, the house, the hosts. You feel like you are in a rainforest above the city, the view from the pool is breathtaking. Everything is very close: all the bars and restaurants are 10 min walking distance and the neighborhood is very safe.
It’s a must try experience when you come to Rio.

The view is great
And every morning we have little cute visitors 🐒

Beautiful and spotless facilities; outstanding breakfast; interior design was beautiful and sophisticated. Gabriel and Claudio were fantastic hosts and really made us feel at home and welcomed. The rest of the staff were also professional and caring.
Everything was perfect!

This must be one of the most gorgeous swimming pools in all of Rio - so relaxing! The breakfast was also amazing and all the staff and owners were so kind, thoughtful and attentive. I’ll be back for carnival!!

Absolutely everything about this wonderful place is so well thought out and perfectly executed. Claudio and Gabriel’s attention to detail and commitment to providing an excellent experience to their guests is faultless. Our room was stylish and beautifully appointed with everything you could possibly want and more, the plunge pool was a fantastic feature along with the two outdoor seating areas providing additional space for relaxing after a busy Rio day. The breakfast, as other reviewers have said, is utterly sublime not just with different dishes but also stunning crockery that changes daily along with the menu - all 5 courses of it! I could go on… and on… but needless to say, our stay was perfect and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Also, don’t be put off by the rather outdated safety worries on the internet regarding Santa Teresa, it is a wonderful district and a great alternative to the tourist favourites of the beaches. As with anywhere in Rio, care must be taken but we happily walked around both day and night with no problems.
Absolutely nothing

We had the most incredible stay at Casa Geranio. The property and rooms are beautiful, and lots of attention is paid to maintain this standard. The pool area is gorgeous, such a tranquil paradise in the bustle of Rio. We loved seeing the Marmosets in the morning!
The breakfast was really tasty, and it changed everyday which was a nice surprise. The service at breakfast was very good.
Claudio gave us great advice on what to do, and where to go, including restaurant and bar recommendations. We are also given helpful advice on how to stay safe in the city.
The rooms are lovely, with everything you could need. They also feel very private. The property in general feels very safe and secure.
The attention to detail that Claudio and his team put into making your stay at Casa Geranio extra special is incredible and I would love to visit again!
The local area is a bit dodgy, make sure you follow the directions given by Claudio as these are the main busy streets, don’t blindly follow google maps.

Breakfast was exceptional and very beautifully presented. The swimming area had amazing view to city!
Our room was dark and had very limited view. We left in afternoon but we were not allowed to use swimming pool area after 11.00 am what was really strange

Everything. We spent our last night in Rio in Casa Geranio. It’s definitely worth and it is a completely different experience compared to our hotels in Rio. Comfortable rooms, amazing fresh breakfast, excellent staff, welcoming atmosphere. The building is amazing.

beautiful restored mansion (the old architectural details are gorgeous) with stunning contemporary pool and outdoor lanai-type seating area. everything is impeccably maintained. Claudio and Gabriel are excellent hosts. the breakfast is outstanding. we stayed four nights in Gingebre Suite which we loved: spacious; great shower. glad we opted for this boutique hotel in Santa Teresa - it’s not “staying at the beach” but gives you a wonderful Rio experience. easy to get to all the places we wanted to visit from the hotel.

Breakfast is delicious and changes every day, fresh fruit, great coffee and yummy pastries. The pool has amazing views, great common areas and the hosts (Gabriel and Claudio) are amazing! This is the only place we are recommending in Rio. Perfection.

Everything about Casa Geranio was perfect. The location was great, the rooms were incredibly beautiful, the pool had a fantastic view, the breakfast was fresh and different every day (it was the best hotel breakfast we have ever had), and everything was pristine. What made Casa Geranio elevated above so many other places we have stayed were the owners, who knew Rio so well and gave us wonderful recommendations. All staff members were so friendly and welcoming. We could not have wished for better, and we have already recommended this place to all our friends. If we ever come back to Rio we will not hesitate to stay here. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer.

Everything about Casa Geranio is exceptional, the breakfast was gorgeous, the attention to detail, the personal touches. But by far the best thing about Casa Geranio is it’s beautiful hosts, Claudio and Gabriel. Their stories, their insight, and all their helpful information, they are really all you can hope for in a host. Thank you Claudio and Gabriel, it was a pleasure meeting you, we hope to be back one day in the future!
Nothing, everything was perfect.
