Wonderful hotel in almost every way

The room was comfortable, the location was great and the staff were exceptional… we had a wonderful stay.

Our stay at Villa Alaya in Ubud was not originally planned. After a very disappointing experience with another Villa Sanji in Ubud we needed a last minute alternative and ended up here somewhat by coincidence. We had initially booked the newly opened Alaya Suites. However, upon arrival we were informed that the property was not yet ready to receive guests and that we would therefore be relocated to the neighboring Alaya hotel. While the hotel tried to compensate for this inconvenience by offering us a massage, the overall experience still felt far from ideal. The breakfast was fairly standard and unfortunately the coffee was the worst we encountered during our entire trip through Bali. In fact, it was so poor that we decided not to drink it. The rooms and the overall property feel somewhat dated and, in our view, are no longer quite up to date. The bathroom is separated from the sleeping area only by a curtain, which we found to be a rather unfortunate and impractical design solution. The design and atmosphere simply did not match our personal taste. That said, the hotel does have one clear advantage: its central location right in Ubud, which many travelers may appreciate and value highly. For us, however, it was primarily a practical emergency solution rather than a place we would have chosen under normal circumstances.
