The accommodation is quiet and within walking distance of the pier. You can rent scooters there, and 7-Eleven and other shops are nearby. It's very quiet, and there's even a kitchen with free water and coffee.
We had the front room, and there were an awful lot of mosquitoes because it didn't open onto the garden (like the other rooms) but onto an anteroom with a shower. Despite using insect repellent, we were completely covered in bites. The owner should install fly screens!

Can walk there from the ferry. Rented a moped nearby. Easy access to a 7/11 & a few restaurants
It is what it says. Nothing not to like

it’s so peaceful! the beds are large and the man that works there is so sweet and kind. it’s around the corner from 7-11 and an easy enough walk to the beach.
it would be great if there were a few more toilets/showers.

The place was clean. Wifi worked great. It's a short walk to the pier and a short walk in the other direction to 7/11 and more restaurants. It was easy to book a boat with them back to Aonang. Would highly suggest waking up early (6-7am) and checking out the market next door. It is ran by the same family as the hostel. The ladies there are incredible and they sell out of a lot of stuff early.
Our booking said our dorm would have 4 beds, but it had 6. Not a huge deal, but thought I'd mention it. There is also a zero alcohol policy on site. Not a deal breaker for us, but it may be for others.

This looked like the only hostel in Yao yai. It was clean and had a small socia area and kitchen. On arrival it felt like it was in the middle of nowhere - but actually there is a 7-11 and restaurants a 10min walk away, and you can walk to the beach in 20-25mins. If you don’t scoot there is not much to do, but you can also rent a scooter from reception which would make this the perfect budget location. I was able to organise a kayaking trip and a shared transfer to another part of the island through the super friendly guy on reception.
You need to have a scooter to make the most of this location. Okay for one or two nights if not.

Strange smell around the toilet

The owner was very friendly and helpful, was happy to answer my questions and even give me a ride to the ferry pier on my last day. Bed was comfortable, found it to be a largely social hostel, with a nice area to chat and smoke outside. Enjoyed it so much I stayed and extra night.
The only snag was that it was far from any notable restaurants, an issue that can be gotten over by hiring a bike from the owner, however.

The hostel was clean and quiet - exactly what we needed it to be.

Service: Excellent. Meen, the owner, is incredibly helpful - he picked me up and dropped me off at the pier, and even rode back to a stopover in the rain to help search for a missing bag hook.
Location: Short walk to a 7-Eleven and several restaurants. Quiet.
Facilities: Spacious, clean, quiet 6-bed AC dorm. Lockers outside the room (bring your own lock). Large, clean bathrooms with shampoo and body wash, a well-equipped kitchenette, and plenty of space to hang clothes outside the room with hangers provided.
Activities: Explore the beautiful Laem Had beach during low tide (check with Meen on the timing). He also helped with transport when free; else take a long walk or jog to get there. Book the Hong Island tour through Meen (minimum 3 pax) - it's amazing!
Atmosphere: Relaxed, rustic, and chill. Met friendly hostel mates and enjoyed island tour and dining together outside.
An absolutely enjoyable and memorable stay.

The toilets could have been a bit cleaner. Because you had to wash your hands outside, a lot of insects came, so by the evening the sinks were covered in insects. The staff cleaned it up the next morning so nothing too annoying. The receptionist was a very sweet guy!

Clean and quite hostel. As this island is 90% muslim, alcohol is very rare and the hostel is very relaxed. Very nice to get to know people better and to relax. You can rent a bike quite easily.
Nothing.

Very friendly and helpful host. Helped us with an extra scooter and kept the luggage after checkout. Not far to 711 if you needed anything.
As in most of Thailand, the beds are harder than what were used to

Very comfortable and private bed in the shared room. Bathroom was always super clean and the place is very peacefull.
There's free coffee, tea and water, a cattle and microwave.
Alcohol is not allowed inside the hostel and it's not the kind of place to make friends (ai don't now how to explain), for those solo travelling.

Meen (the owner) is a great person, he came and picked us op from the pier without even asking.
The hostel it self is nice and clean. There is a small place to make coffee, thea and a fridge also there is free water for the guest's.
The beds are a bit uncomfortable. But thats all overall a great hostel.
You do need a scooter to get around on the Island otherwise it's almost impossible to explore the island.

Confortable room, really nice staff and clean place. The island is the most local and authentic island I’ve been in Thailand, really nice!
The worst thing was the situation, not so close from the beaches (20/30 min walking) and also no restaurants close, you also have to walk or take the motorbike.

The room is very good, with air conditioning, a lot of space, the toilet is very clean, and it can be seen that all the accessories are carefully selected! I was very lucky to stay at Meen's hotel and will definitely recommend his hotel more! On this island, I deeply feel the beauty of human nature. Everyone trusts each other, no stealing, and they will make every effort to help others! they Smile when see strangers! Especially my hotel owner, Meen, I caused him a lot of trouble from the beginning, but he helped me solve them one by one. I wanted a microwave, so he went to borrow one just for me to use for 3 days. He also specially moved the refrigerator to the lobby from the kitchen for my convenience. When I was dawdling before renting a motorcycle on the first day, he kept waiting for me, neither told me nor rushed me! When he took me to the pier, he told him that i forgot to bring the money when we got there. so He told the boat to wait for me, and then took me back to the hotel to take the money. The day I left was the boat at 6 am in the morning. when I got up, he was already standing at the door waiting for me silently! When I got to the pier, I wanted to buy water, so he went back to the hotel to get a bottle of water for me, but then I remembered that I forgot to take my hat, but the boat was about to go, and he didn't have time to go back to get it, so I said it was okay, please throw it away for me, when I arrive to the next pier, never would I expect him to actually ride to the NEXT pier just to give me the hat...
Meen, I'm so embarrassed for causing you so much trouble, I'm really thankful for you, you are such a nice guy! you are working hard to build a second hotel, hoping that when Phuket opens for tourism, your hotels will be full of people!
The only regret is that I forgot to take the photos of the room. Sorry for not being able to provide more details about the facilities. I was always out and about, haha!

rooms were nice, looked new. a/c was strong and quiet, the owner was very friendly and helpful. the hostel is very close to the pier and the beach. very good price.
to go to the toilet and shower you need to leave the dorm room and go outside into the garden. it’s just 2 meters away, but I think it’s good to know.

The owner is very friendly, he even gave me a lift to the pier the morning that I left. He'll also try to help you with anything he can. There are some washing machines close to the hostel and you can put in 20 baht and do your own laundry. The owner gave me a basket to carry the clothes and there is space to hang it up at the hostel. I really liked the location, it was close to the pier where I arrived and left from and close to laem had beach which is a stunning strip of sand with water on both sides. But don't expect to see a lot of tourists around here, most of them will be staying around Loh Pared beach. It was nice to mix with the locals for breakfast around here or wave back as you walk past. They're all very friendly and it felt quite unique being here.
There was a kitchen, but not exactly sure whether we were allowed to use it. I did ask if I could make tea and he made it for me. But it would be nice to be able to use a kettle, mugs, cutlery, plates etc. But probably if you ask, he'll arrange it for you. And maybe not the most comfortable mattresses, you could feel the springs, but I still slept fine.

This hostel is in a really great location, close to the pier and the best beach on the island. Koh Yao Yai currently very quiet and the hostel had just one other person staying in it whilst I was there but I have a great time regardless and it’s really lovely to explore the island without many tourists. If you’re travelling alone and arrive at Klong Hia Pier don’t pay 300 for the taxi - ask them to take you on a motorbike instead and it only costs 100 baht.

Meen was very helpful. He ensured that I was having a comfortable stay at the hostel and the island. He went the extra mile. The hostel was very close to one of the two seven elevens on the island. Mopeds can be rented at the hostel and that is the easier form of transport. I am definitely coming back here and hopefully with my friends.

The staff is really kind and helpful. The hostel is really calm and clean, the bed was comfortable, the toilets and showers were clean. The price for the rent of a motorbike was really good, and you can definitely trust the owners when renting these bikes!
You basically have to take a pricy taxi to get to the hostel from the pier. I was although really pleased when the owner offered me a free ride back to the pier on the way to Phuket, it made my day!
