Good Hotel for a Short Stay in Zurich

What I liked most is the HUGE rooms. I believe this building was converted into a hotel, so the room size is quite larger than average. The location is perfect as well. Josephine's Guesthouse is about 2 mins' walk to the tram stop, and about 15 mins' ride to the Zurich HB train station. I also liked that there was a COOP near the guesthouse, where one can buy groceries and personal care times. I LOVED that each guest is given a key to a mini fridge. Although it is upstairs, rather than en-suite. The bathroom was clean as well. The provided breakfast was OK, but it was nothing extravagant. I also liked that the building has a washer/dryer. I felt safe and comfortable that the hotel was women's only.

I found the receptionist to be lacking in warmth and customer service skills. She was animated when she spoke in German with other guests, but cold and short with me. That was a bad impression for the hotel. The laundry room should have better instructions in English. It was complicated to figure out how to work the machines. Also, when your laundry cycle stops, you either have to be there immediately to open the washer's door, or you must put more coins in the till, to open the door. That felt like theft. The dryer was also not very efficient and did not dry my clothes. But maybe I was using it incorrectly since there were no instructions in English with clear explanations for the settings. The room's doors are HEAVY. Coming in and out was a nightmare, and making sure the key locked properly was difficult.

Nice place but the street noise and clock tower kept us up all night

Very large room with a long desk that was perfect for our suitcases, plus a wardrobe to hang clothes. Nice kitchen with breakfast provided, outside patio, our own private refrigerator space.

The room was warm even though the weather was cool outside. We tried leaving the windows open but the noises from people outside and the clock tower kept us awake- even when we closed the windows we could still hear it. Thankfully we only stayed one night since we did not sleep at all.

This place is a gem!

I love this place. It's a gem, especially for solo female travellers. Its location was perfect for my needs. Hassle free late evening check in and they provide the reassurance of a phone number incase you need it. It's quiet and clean and everything is close by - local supermarket open until 22:00, 15 minute walk from the train station, cinema around the corner, two local Italian restaurants close by and McDonalds down the street. Breakfast is really nice and I appreciate that they give free hot drinks from the machine during breakfast time because I didn't have any of the local currency in change on me.

Mattress was a bit bouncy but it was fine. I also sleep on two pillows normally but there was only one. I put a cushion from a chair under the pillow so that was fine too.

The guesthouse was only 15 min walk from train station. Was surrounded by eating places and a couple of grocery shops. The room was clean and the communal kitchen was clean and also enjoyed the free breakfast.

A perfect choice for Zurich

Beautiful hotel in a quiet yet central part of the city. Very comfortable room and the bonus point was a rooftop terrace with spectacular sunset views. Lovely staff.

Very well located hotel. The room was big with comfortable bed. There was a fan, which was at great use in the afternoon. Easy check in. The lady at the reception allowed me to store my luggage for a few hours after checking out. Overall, we had a very nice stay!

lovely, comfortable stay at josephines!

amenities was awesome, especially the kitchen and they also had a coin laundry service so I could do my laundry! The room was big and the location was far away enough to escape the noise of Zurich but close enough for me to still walk to the main station and to visit the shops. I love the overall atmosphere of the guesthouse and understand why people choose to stay here longterm.

Just a minor detail but one that will catch visitors offguard - that the reception hours on booking.com are inaccurate! The guesthouse ends reception hours by 14.30 but I think I've seen it as 17.30 here. There was no issue for me because I arrived early (and had the benefit of an early check in too, woohoo!!) but others who arrive after will need to check themselves in

Beyond Expectation

We loved the spacious room, comprehensive facilities, and the friendly and informative receptionist. The hotel's location was perfect, with a tram stop, supermarket, shops, and cafes all within walking distance. To top it off, we were allowed to check in early without extra charges.

The concept of all women guests as well as staff is fantastic. The place, even though reasonably priced and one with a green initiative, offers great comfort and cleanliness. Smartly designed rooms and a common kitchen to mingle, if you want to.

Perfectly located for the railway station

I only stayed overnight en route to hike the Leichtenstein Trail, but for this purpose it was perfect. It's just a 10-minute walk from Zurich HB railway station and I passed multiple cafes and restaurants on my way. Breakfast was available and included in the room price, but unfortunately I had to leave before it was served in order to catch my train. Room was spacious and quiet, and the bed was comfy. Would definitely stay here again.

Friendly, clean, lovely guesthouse in the heart of Zurich

The hostel is in a great location, very easy to walk to from the train station and very close to everything. It's bright, cosy, spotlessly clean, and the breakfast area has a great view. I got perfectly clear instructions for checking in late, everything was super easy to find. My bed was comfy and the room had everything I needed. Would very happily return.

The place is in a good location, 12 mins walking distance from the main train station Zurich HB, 2 mins walk from public transport, night buses and trams. Check-in was easy and clear instructions how to get yourself into the building if you arrive after 2pm. The APPLICATION for this place is great as all the information about their facilities is organised by categories. The staff was very friendly and helpful (they'll let you use the kitchen area if you need to wait for your transport after checking out), we were so happy they could borrow plugs as the one we brought didn't work (similar to the Spanish plugs but slightly wider and slimmer), the room was clean and had everything as advertised. Breakfast had a good selection of hot and cold drinks, the bread seemed freshly baked, seasonal fruit, jam and cheese. Although the kitchen was shared it was clean at all times, the organisation was spot on specially with the fridge situation, we had a locker which was very spacious (we stored 2 bottles of wine and some food,even a medium pizza!). Definitely worth the money we paid and of course we'll come back!!

There's only 4 minor things for us (might be different for other people/guest) and expectations or circumstances. However, if you are a light sleeper, you'll struggle because it's right next to a big church and every day from 7 am to 9 or 10 pm the loud church bells will definitely wake you up. You'll get free ear plugs though. The bathroom was a bit small and half of the bathroom floor got wet after having a shower because it had only half a glass door to separate the shower from the toilet, not a massive issue as we spent the majority of the day out exploring. The oven was quite hard to get into the correct settings and a bit difficult to use we had to play with it for 20 mins (even the lady who lives there said that the oven is "temperamental" sometimes lol). The lift is small (2 people) so if you travel with someone else and bring big luggage you need to make a couple of trips. The reception is only open until 3pm, after that you can contact them over the phone if there's an emergency otherwise you can wait until the following day as we did for the plug.

The rooms and bathrooms were clean. The terrace was a nice place to unwind. Great location.

The staff is curt and unhelpful. The breakfast was a sorry fare and the options were limited. The tea/coffee options are limited and available only during breakfast which is ridiculous for the price we pay.

We had breakfast included, but it's hard to call it breakfast. I don't know, maybe all breakfasts are like this in Switzerland? These are coffee, bread, butter, cereal with milk, and watermelon. If I knew that breakfasts include only this, I would not take breakfast at this hotel.

Perfect for women solo travellers or to be with friends/daughters/mom/grandmother!

A fully renovated place, feels like a "Nordic design" guesthouse. A room for 3 with private bathroom was spacious enough, and had everything we needed. The communal kitchen/terrace was incredible! Breakfast was unsophisticated but had a little of everything, and good coffee (a must for me!)

Very good

The room was very spacious, clean and quiet. The location was very central, easy to walk everywhere - there is a supermarket and tram stop across the street. It was great to have use of the kitchen and private fridge space. Love that it's just for women - feels very safe and friendly.
