Hotel IX Nine Streets Amsterdam

We absolutely loved our stay in the Berenstraat Suite and would not hesitate to book again. LOCATION - The location was perfect – right in the heart of Amsterdam canal streets and within easy walking distance of everything we wanted to see, do and experience. It truly could not have been better positioned. I could even just pop downstairs and buy fresh tulips from the grocery store (Jumbo’s) which was definitely a plus! THE PROPERTY - The apartment itself was beautiful, comfortable and well appointed. The bathroom was lovely, the beds were comfortable, and everything we needed for our stay was provided. We absolutely loved looking out of the apartment window at everything happening down on the street, including a church service on Sunday’s. ADDED EXTRAS - We were also welcomed with complimentary drinks, which was a thoughtful touch. The owners were also very accommodating and generously allowed all four of us to stay in the suite (at an added cost for the extra guests), which suited our group perfectly. They checked in with us daily to ensure we had everything we needed and were always happy to provide fresh towels, toilet paper or anything else required. Their hospitality was outstanding and made us feel very welcome.

The only thing worth mentioning is that there are a few flights of narrow stairs, but this is very common in the canal district of Amsterdam and we were aware of this before booking, so it was not an issue at all.

The location was perfect. Close to everything by walking or bike. I loved my room! So spacious. The WiFi was also great. I like that my room had a fridge, coffee and tea. You can ask for a clothing rack since my room didn’t have a closet.

The air conditioner is not like the air we have in the US because the building is 400 years old so I was hot during the day. I would suggest bringing a fan. And like most places in the city, there are narrow stairs so when you are bringing our bags up, you will need a lot of strength.

Spacious, lots of natural light, very peaceful. Location is perfect. Great shower and very comfortable bed. Nice coffee machine and good temperature control.

Because there is no reception, everything is done thru email, and although Merel is very friendly and responsive, it’s not immediate and sometimes you just need an answer. Minor points - not really great to put a sign saying’ all drinks in the minibar are complimentary’ when the minibar is empty. Also, the safe didn’t work.

We loved the location and the beds were comfy

The shower had no privacy at all with glass doors separating it from the corridor, and the light sensor in the bathroom comes on when anyone walks past it - for eg to use the WC in the night - effectively lighting up the apartment, and no way of turning it off other than to wait for it to go off after ten minutes or so
