Our stay at Ellen House was excellent. Should we return to Matlock it will be with Anne and John

Ellen House is well placed for getting into Matlock's facilities - shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. All a short walk away. Its also close to the station, which was ideal as we travelled by train. Our room was lovely with every thing we needed, all well presented. Everything about Ellen House is very clean. Very impressed. The breakfasts were superb. A good start to the day. Our hosts, Anne and John, were very friendly and helpful. They made our stay an absolute pleasure.

Good quality towels Our hosts Anne and John were friendly, helpful, informative and just couldn't have been more hospitable Excellent breakfast included, freshly cooked by John The weather did not permit opening the doors to the garden, but it must be lovely in spring/summer Convenient parking across the road, parking permit supplied Location was excellent. Short walk into town. 4 or 5 restaurants on the road at the bottom of the hill. Plenty of storage space

The bathroom was small and while the most had been made of the space available (eg shelves for your own toiletries), the shower was a bit of a challenge for a taller person!

A hidden gem

Very warm welcome - convenient parking across the road with parking permit provided - beautiful touches in the room as towels were tied with ribbons, toiletries provided, amazing smelling air freshener - great of coffee & tea in the room inc a cafetiere and ground coffee - delicious breakfast with many options to choose from - super location - Anne & John were wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful hosts

Peaceful homely relaxing

Breakfast was exceptional, especially Johns mushrooms, Ann and John were delightful hosts particularly johns stories about life growing up in South Africa. Anns flapjacks were a tastebud sensation. Highly recommend and great location.

A little gem ! Perfect location for the town and train station. Anne and John are great hosts and made us feel very welcome. A lovely room with everything you could want. Lots of added extras for your comfort with fabulous breakfasts. We could not fault anything and would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

Hosts were really welcoming, made us feel at home.

Nothing, was a fabulous stay. If I had to say something, there was only the option of orange juice at breakfast, while it was lovely and fresh, I would have preferred apple juice.

Lovely hosts and breakfast, close to the center of Matlock.

Although the room was rather small it was very clean and quiet and had all the needed facilities. Anne and John were great hosts. They were very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and offered their experiences about trips and places of interest. The breakfast was really good. Good quality products (including home made jam). Car parking was located across the road and was safe. Location of the B&B was only a 2 min walk to the center of Matlock (shops, park and restaurants).

Relaxing and a tasty breakfast

The breakfast was lovely, and the homemade jam and marmalade was a nice touch. It was nice to walk into the garden and sit and watch the birds and a squirrel eating the nuts ! Just a short walk into town too.

The big pillow was a little uncomfortable, did realise there was a flatter one in the cupboard, in the morning !!

Ideally located for the centre of Matlock. Car parking available opposite the property. Comfortable room and bed. Accommodating, friendly, knowledgeable hosts. Anne's homemade biscuits are a bonus. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Would stay here again if holidaying in the area. And the train station is less than 5 minutes away. The King room has the added attraction of on outside patio/garden area.

Lovely host, location was very quiet at night. Enjoyed our stay very much

Breakfast was lovely, fresh fruit, cereals and hot breakfast cooked to order, freshly brewed tea and coffee and host enquired if we needed any extras. Location was perfect, quite location but only a short stroll to restaurant and shops. Lovely garden to relax in. Lots of literature available on local attractions and walks in the area.

Excellent B&B in the Peak District

Anne and John were very welcoming and friendly, offered detailed advice & stories on places to visit / to eat and showed a lot of interest in how our day went. The room and breakfast area are decorated stylishly. The breakfast is organized via a checklist order form. This way you can compose the full english to your desire or order one of John's specialities. The Eggs Benedict are delicious and the full english had some refined touches. Anne made sure we were lacking nothing. The whole experience was superb. This was a 2 day stopover on our way home but there is enough to do in the Peak District to warrant a longer stay. We enjoyed our visits to Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall very much.

A nice stop on our journey north

Good location for both town and exploring the area. 5+ minutes walk to Restaurants and town centre, car park available directly opposite with visitor permit provided. Good breakfast with opportunity to choose cooked options the night before. Comfortable bed.

The en-suite shower room was a little tight, but all functioned OK.

Home from home

Everything. John and Anne were great hosts. The breakfast was to die for, with so much choice. Our room was comfortable and it was nice to be able to sit outside in the garden and relax in the evenings. Close to the station for easy access up and down the track, as well as close to amenities.

Open & Honest Cottage with the niceties of life tucked away in this home

The “hosts” are very friendly, welcoming and glad human beings, they help you settle into their unique and homely B&B. Whilst space is premium they have endeavoured to maximise space & comfort. The house is ideally suited for entry into the Peak District and Dales.

Whilst you can complain, its would be unjust And a dis-service to the hosts.

Delightful cottage, great position

Great position across from the train station (sheltered from view by trees), and short walk into town, and a lovely park with mountain views. Great hosts, excellent breakfast, free parking and comfy room with en suite. The garden, accessible from door next tho the room, is lovely.

Perfect guesthouse in a perfect location

The location was a very short walk to Matlock town centre, right by the train station. The owners, Anne and John, were extremely friendly and helpful. Anne even checked a local shop opening time for us and also provided dinner recommendations in town. The room was clean and comfortable with everything we needed. We stayed in room 2 which has the sink in the bedroom and I thought would be weird but it wasn’t a problem at all. We also had our ensuite bathroom with toilet and bath/shower. There was parking opposite which i could use once Anne gave me a permit.

There wasn’t anything I didn’t like. I would definitely stay here again.

The hosts, Anne & John, were so accommodating & welcoming, it really was like going home, the breakfasts were phenomenal & the room was very clean, beautiful view & access to the garden at the rear of the property. All in a very very nice place & the location was perfect for us
