High Tor Hotel

Lovely hotel, spacious, bar and breakfast rooms also looked nice.

There was a tapping noise in our room from about 8am, it stopped and then started again. It was very annoying.

Big bedroom with lovely en-suite bathroom, great hot water and high pressure shower and a bath! Room no.10

The deco, carpets etc have a little to be desired and it’s a drive into town or longish walk

Iv seen some bad hotels but this was vile, it smelt as soon as you walked in of chip fat. The stairs leading to the rooms was filthy and do not touch the banister rail there was blood on the second floor rail, our room was number 11 it was beyond dirty sheets had not been cleaned the carpet was diabolical and it was freezing cold the windows wouldn’t close and neither would the blinds there was a little free standing radiator which the leg was broken on and it wasn’t pac tested either and stunk when we turned it on the icing on the cake was when we opened the bed side cabinet and a previous tenant had left there contact lenses and line in the draw oh and to top it all off the bed was wet and when I say wet I mean soaking wet I emailed to cancel the reservation as I was not staying in that room the guy came up and offered to turn on the heating that was it no apology no offer to switch rooms nothing, we stayed a total of 14 minutes before leaving and driving two hours home I’m not fighting for a refund or partial refund as I wouldn’t let me dog stay there let alone a human

Its clean and tidy, just recently been refurbished. The rooms and bathrooms were lovely. We would stay again!

Very close to Matlock Bath and was great for us going to the illuminations.

The staff member who greeted us on arrival was really friendly, he even let us borrow an umbrella as it was heavy rain. Nothing was too much trouble

The staff went above and beyond for our anniversary and were helpful and pleasant, a few cobwebs in the room that put my wife on edge due to a spider phobia, but overall we were pleasantly surprised

Watch out for the driveway In Bad weather..very steep! Lots of people slipping on wet leaves as well.

Breakfast was great the eggs benedict was wonderful and filling. Can highly recommend it. The extra detailing in the room with the teas and coffees was nice too (some chocolates).

Main entrance not signposted from outside Bags of litter and used coffee cups left outside ALL weekend Bar kept locked. Ordered two drinks with ice which took ages Bed pushed up against the wall into a corner A previous occupant had obviously split coffee over the chest of drawers which had pooled in the drawers, it was also covered in fingerprints There was a used glass on the floor behind the chest of drawers The room window only opened a few inches, the bathroom one didn't open at all No aircon so used the electric fan - FULL of dust Bedside socket didn't work Bathroom tiled nicely but the showerhead not suited to whatever water heating system is installed Mouldy bath plug No bath mat, had to use hand towel Cooked breakfast was cold. The bed was comfortable, and it was quiet. We stayed in room 4 with the king-size bed. The shower in the room was amazing. The breakfast was lovely, the staff are friendly.

Hotel entrance tricky to find and drive up to on first arrival by road from Matlock, as had to be approached on the other side of the road (ie coming from Matlock Bath) for obvious safety reasons. Dinner had to be ordered at time of booking if wishing to dine at the hotel, which we did. Food was adequate, but expensive for a meal made largely using frozen, convenience ingredients. Breakfast was also adequate, but the cooked options we chose appeared to offer more than the rather basic continental option, had we chosen that.

Very tiny room, everything a bit shoddliy put up. Terrible layout in a cramped bathroom. Nowhere to sit in the room, not even on the bed because there was a window behind the head of the bed! What are you supposed to do, just enter your room and lay down for the rest of the day? I did ask to be moved to a room with somewhere to sit but was told the hotel was full. Very hard bed.

We stayed at this hotel in the past in 2019 & loved everything about it so my wife booked our stay for my birthday & so we could visit the illuminations. Unfortunately it has now changed hands ☹️

We had to wait an hour to check in as there were no staff on site at all. We used the phone to contact but we were simply told to wait upstairs. When the guy did arrive, he was very charmless & said very little. We asked for a hair dryer & he said he would sort straight away but later in the day we had to ask again as he forgot. We decided to buy a bottle of wine from the bar that should have been open until 9pm. I went down stairs at 8.40pm but it was all locked up & the guy had gone home ! The next day we went downstairs for breakfast but as there was only one lady, we had to wait 45 mins with the other guests. In addition to this the coffee machine stoped working & the lady said she didn't know how to fix it so i hag no coffee. When we last went there in 2019, The High Tor had different owners & we loved our stay. This prompted us to re visit but this time it was such a disappointment & i will never return or recommend to anyone else.☹️

Very well appointed hotel that was only slightly more expensive than a budget one

Very cosy room. I was expecting it to be slightly bigger. Excellent shower.

The full English breakfast was disappointing. I don't think the quality was good. The tea and coffee was from a machine which was not great.

Had 7 rooms booked for a group, but hotel had no knowledge of who was in which room. Fortunately i had my booking. com paperwork. Parts of bedroom dirty, wifi and therefore TV did not work in remotest room.

Perfect hotel for our needs. Small but very comfortable room. Had a great night's sleep. Recommend that you book to have the breakfast. The full English was very good as was the continental breakfast counter. After checking out we were allowed to leave the car in the freezer carpark for a few hours whilst we explored Matlock Bath.

The window blind in our room would not stay shut. Not a problem for us as we are early risers but could be an issue and needs replacing.

The food was good, the room was great, the staff were helpful.

WiFi not working Timing on the one evening I booked dinner was not great, but the food was good when it came.

- Great location between Matlock and Matlock Bath. Ideal for visiting Gullivers Kingdom.. - Room was clean - Free WiFi - Free parking - Family suite was spacious - Building has lovely period features

- Despite it being a family suite. The sofa was not made up as a bed for our daughter. There was also no extra linen in the wardrobe to make it up ourselves. We asked for bedding which didn't arrive, the staff said they were waiting for house keeping. He brought it to us in the end about 7pm after we came home from dinner. - There was no hair dryer in the room, although one was provided when asked for. It is advertised so didn't bring my own. - Room is advertised as having wine in the room, I also told them about my husbands birthday as they said to inform them of special occasions in the welcome email. Unfortunately, the advertised wine or anything else was provided. This would have been above and beyond, but don't advertise for something you don't offer.
