    The price was outrageous for such a small bedroom with a cramped en-suite and an even tinier basin. The room had no central heating, only a portable heater provided. When we arrived, the room was freezing, so I switched on the socket for the heater. After about half an hour, I turned the heater off, only to find the plug was extreme hot to the touch. I reported this immediately to the pub staff, but they were dismissive and claimed there was nothing they could do. When I asked to speak to the manager, the staff were visibly unhappy, and the manager approached me with an even worse attitude. He refused to listen to my concerns about safety, He just fiddling about the heater to Low temperature and thermostat. No instruction for the heater!

    Overall, this place offers good value for money and has welcoming staff that truly enhance the experience. The location is at the top of a steep hill going down into Matlock - this is OK if you have a car or it keeps you fit if you like walking. The meals in the pub are great value for money especially if you eat before 6.00. The hotel provided a great location for us to explore the area.

    Quaint hotel rooms. Needs a good clean. Shower was mouldy, carpet dirty and old. Bed blanket throw was old and disgusting. Room smelt like wet dog. On the positive, the staff very friendly and the food was good and filling at the adjacent pub.
