How the hotel rooms were away from the pub. And had a nice little courtyard we had a little fish pond outside our room. This isn't our first stay we stayed a few years ago.
The staff was really nice and helpful. We had breakfast the next morning It was very nice.
The drinks are reusable priced as we had a drink in the pub the pub toilets were nice and clean.
My only advice would be don't open the door to your room if it's a wet night the room was very hot so we opened the door to let some air in and ended up with a frog in our room but it all added to our stay and we found it funny 🤣.
Nothing everything was fine.

The evening meals were good as was the hosting IN the pub in the evenings. A lovely atmosphere in the pub on our first evening gave us high hopes but it went downhill from there.
The cost of breakfast was the same for a full english and the Continental. It wasn't a Continental breakfast. It was 2 small pastries. No decaf tea available. Cereal was available to anyone so cannot be said that it was the Continental breakfast. It would have been nice to have the option of some toast perhaps but the waiting staff made themselves scarce unless they were serving food so gave the impression that they really didn't want to be asked for anything.
The room was full of cobwebs which had clearly been there for some time; it really wouldn't take much to hoover those down. We had to go to the bar to ask for anything we needed in the room to top up tea and coffee making facilities and more importantly a toilet roll on the morning before we left, which we really could have done with the night before but you don't really want to go into a full bar to ask for that! We stayed for 6 nights and nobody came in to clean the room, change towels empty the bin etc until our penultimate morning on asking for the loo roll etc. The lady my husband saw seemed shocked when he said nobody had been in the room all week. She, provided him with what he asked for and suddenly during the day whilst we were out did the towels get changed and the bed made. Bit late for that. My husband's side of the mattress had also lost the springs near the top so not very comfortable unfortunately. Nobody was around on the morning we left either, despite us leaving around the time breakfast service finished. Had to chase around to try and find somebody but ended up calling an out of hours number to find out what to do. This information could easily be left in the room for guests.

Accommodation was really lovely, spacious and well decorated giving a very modern cosy feel. The pub is also very good. very welcoming and friendly. Owner/staff happy to chat and advise about other places to eat, provided local taxi service numbers etc - very helpful.
There wasn't much to dislike! bright light in the courtyard shines through bedroom windows/curtains but there were secondary blinds, so just needed to remember to close them also. not a problem.

There was no food service after 2 pm on Sunday and no breakfast available next day.The walk down to macklock was.on a 1/14° hill.so you need to get a taxi back.up. landlord was rude and unhelpful
No food and no breakfast. Expense just for a room. I paid £110 just for a room.

Location
No welcome, cold room, poor heating, cobwebs, squeaky bed, very old tiny small tv. Ordered breakfast but given just 25 mins and asked to leave. We chose this hotel as it was Green King but it turned out not to be and our GK was not recognised / useable.

Enjoyed the locality for convenience to Matlock town and where family live nearby. Breakfast was very good, staff helpful and friendly. Accomodation was acceptable and comfortable. The pub itself had a great atmosphere and clearly popular, which I enjoyed with family members.
Only things I didn't like I'd suggest appear minor but neverless important room for improvement:
1. Shower was stained near foot tray, and electric shower did not perform well; water pressure low.
2. Shower room Shaver light and mirror too low, had to squat to see myself shave.
3. Bedroom TV wiring was loose with TV plug into a suspended extension cable which didn't look right as a permanent arrangement.

Accomodation seperate from the pub building.but.just across the courtyard in semi detached studios. You can put the heater on to suit....lovely comfy bed with ensuite and tea coffee making facilities .Had my little Yorkie with me.We were very comfortable..Had a pub meal in the evening in the bar which was really good and a very nice breakfast which was optional at a reasonablean extra cost. Would definitely go back again. All the staff were friendly and helpful too. An excellent stay.

Nice pub alongside the accommodation
Not very clean, cobwebs in both rooms. The fan in one room did not turn off and was noisy all night, also absolutely clogged up with dust.

Breakfast Very poor, overcooked, no decaffeinated coffee although we checked the previous evening.
Looks like we were the only takers.

Liked how clean it was and was a nice size room
Not the property itself but we had been out for a meal and came back at 22.35 and we wanted a drink in the bar , we was only allowed one drink and we did feel that we was rushed which put a damper on our evening

Cooked breakfast was very good. The evening meal was also very good. The room was adequate for our needs as only one night. The bed was very comfortable and all of the linen was of a good quality and very clean.
Unfortunately there was some mould on the window sill and around the window but everywhere else was clean, I think it had just been overlooked.

Great pub in a fantastic location. Good value for money. The rooms were very cosy and separate to the pub. Breakfast a bit small but all good otherwise, would stay again.
Small breakfast.

Decided to have a night away for no particular reason and found the Wellington via Booking.com and as with a lot of our trips had no real expectations. OK firstly check your sat nav settings as you could end up on a totally unnecessary trip round Matlock. The Pub is situated on a main street at the top of of a hill just out of town. Beautiful old building which is deceptively large in side. The bar areas are really nicely done and furnished and decorated to a high standard. Excellent selection of local and national beers and lagers.
Lovely greeting from the delightful staff who was genuinely interested in us and out trip and plans.
The rooms are converted outbuilding. Fuctional with everything you could need for an over night or couple of days. Hermetically clean and tidy. I ll get to the bed in a min
We dined at the pub which had a really good selection of meals starters mains and if you could manage deserts.
Veggies are well catered for. ( Me I had the well really well cooked and presented mixed grill)
It was a very busy Halloweeen Friday night and the pub was hosting local post Trick or Treating families. Really nice to see. Staff were marvelous ( pay rise ??) Credit to the pub
So Pub good.. greeting delightful .. Beer good, menu and food excellent.. Service Exceptional..
Sleep .... Over slept in one of the most comfy beds i ve stayed in ..
Breakfast well cooked and presented at a ridiculously low price considering.. Land Lord and Lady on duty who were chatty and welcoming. Again guinely interested in there customers.
Thankfully we didnt get to do everything we planned on this trip so good reason to go back. I bet this place is wonderful at Christmas.
absolutley nothing. Perdfect for over night or couple of nights away for no reason at all. Weather was a bit crap mind ( I'm only writing this bit so the box goes green )

The rooms are an ideal base for a walking trip or a visit to surrounding areas.very friendly staff clean rooms although a couple of cobwebs but adds to the feel, menu looked good but didn't try, great selection of drinks available at the bar.
I thought that if breakfast was included in the price I would have been better value

Nice friendly atmosphere
Great that you can take your dog
Good that your accommodation is in the grounds of the pub rather than in the actual pub making it quiet. Evening meal was lovely.
Huge hill to climb if walking back from Matlock centre. However there are buses and would be great if a bus timetable was in the room

Lovely bar and main bar area in a lovely old building .
Far from town with a steep climb to the venue . The bedroom was very small. The breakfast area remained closed at 10am where we decided to drop the key off as there was no one around .

The staff were friendly, the dinner was ok but the breakfast was better.
The pub was nice with a good locals atmosphere.
Theres nothing else to like, the room was a disgrace.
The room was full of mould and not fit for human habitation.
I emailed the pub three times and they didn't have the decency to get back to me. At no point did I ask for a refund, I just think a response would have been reasonable and dare I say even an apology. The complementary chocolates were mouldy and a definite health hazzard. Un fortunatly we handed them to a member of staff which was a bad idea, they could have been used as evidence.

The evening meal and breakfast was fantastic.
The beds so comfy.
The staff were so attentive and polite.
It is at top of a steep hill but if you fit it's not a problem
Car parking is easy and plenty of space .
I would stay again just for the food
The rooms are dated but if you only there for a few days not a big problem
