Smelled & Stairs. Would not return
The view was nice, and the lady who offered coffee and cake in the morning was very sweet.
The amount of stairs needed to get to this property was not clearly advertised nor mentioned. It was an extreme struggle trying to get there, especially with luggage. Additionally, there was a leak in our room when we checked in, so we informed the host. They responded the next morning saying they would have it worked on that day. No one ever fixed it. We had to step around the big puddle every time we entered the bathroom. Also, our room smelled so bad. Perhaps from the leak or something else, but every time we entered the room, it smelled like toilet water. The rooms are also right above the train station so you can hear every announcement and train. I love Vernazza, and it is the reason I booked a hotel there, but if I returned I would stay somewhere else.

Wonderful
Loved the view. Also had a delicious dinner at the restaurant.
Steep climb to the hotel. Worth it but just know it is steep if you have luggage.

There were sewage smells in our room. We kept the door closed. The view is magnificent
Lorena is a great hostess

Lovely room, staff and view!
Gorgeous View!
The property may want add an additional curtain for extra darkness on the front door (just to help with sleep) It was a little bright in the room early morning, but the room was fabulous!

Special
The view was gorgeous, the dinner at their restaurant was delicious, the rooms were cozy and decorated nicely, the towels in the bathroom were thick, and the morning cappuccino was great, the town itself so charming …overall highly recommend.
Initially lacked in communication, I did have questions regarding the steps and accessibility but the day before we arrived had very good communication with sara.
My husband has MS and walking is a bit of an issue..fyi, steps are challenging but he did it!

Very clean and a fabulous hostess Lorena who helped such a lot to explain the walking options.
New and clean room in a good location in this very pretty village right in the centre of the Cinque Terre
Not a proper breakfast which was such a shame as it feels like the restaurant just below/to the side could easily provide it. Everything is small in the Cinque Terre so expect small rooms.

Perfect location in Vernazza with stunning view.
Nice and cozy room with a large and modern bathroom. Small balcony with a stunning view over the city and the sea. Very nice and friendly staff.
There is nothing to dislike, but there are some stairs to climb up so if you have problems with knees or hips you might consider something else. We found it useful for the trip to pack everything in backpacks and not suitcases.

Great location, great views, comfortable room!
Great location near the train station. The room was comfortable and had an incredible view. Check-in was simple, with the host providing clear directions. We loved the area and would stay at Casa Cato again!

Worth the hassle to get there; gorgeous view and good stay!
Beautiful view overlooking Vernazza. Nice patio to take in view.
Not good directions to get to property via car. Confusing. Had to park outside towns (normal for this town) and then walk a while. Coordination between property and parking folks was difficult with waits between texts a little frustrating. Lucky I I had my strong husband who could carry out luggage otherwise it would’ve been even more coordination with someone to carry luggage up to the unit. Something to be aware of and this wouldn’t be an issue for those arriving g train. Worth it for the gorgeous views and access to everything at your front door. Didn’t like the hosts being pushy about eating at the restaurant and each person must order a meal. I wasn’t hungry so I happened to mention that I’d probably just have dessert/coffee and he would be eating and they basically said no thank you. Loved the morning breakfast with the lady who hosted breakfast (different than the owners). She was attentive and really appeared to care about each set of customers.

Accommodation with amazing view of town
Amazing view from the room, i imagine one of the best in Vernazza if you want a view of sea and the town. Room looks relatively newly renovated. Communication with staff was good.
Has a cute balcony to enjoy the view. Close to the train station.
It was tough work carrying suitcases up lots of steps, so either have strong arms, light suitcases, or hiking backpacks. It's more of an issue with the cinque terre villages and not so much this particular accommodation. The mini fridge was barely cold.

Excellent accommodation in Vernazza with fantastic views.
The location is very good, close to the train station. The view is fantastic !!! Clean and friendly staff.
The stairs to get to the apartment, but they did send someone to carry my bag.

Great location but....
Short walk to the middle of town and the water. Right next to train station. Great view. Great view sitting at the bar. The best thing Lenora (? Name), the housekeeper, who gave us awesome advice on where to go and what to see.
Hard to find out with directions provided. Bathroom needs updating. Trains run all night and woke me up. Rooms small, need a luggage rack. View is only out window in door, hard to enjoy it from your room.

Beautiful view.super rude and not helpful!
Beautiful view and clean room
The staff, Lorena and Sara were rude and not helpful.
There were many rules of what we could not do. When we left for dinner she turned off our air conditioner. We complained as the room was still hot upon our return and we received a lecture about the environment and were told we were the problem,

Mixed Experience, Can't Recommend
The view is the best part of this property. While we didn't have a private balcony, our room was at the farthest end from the restaurant terrace, so we were able to sit outside with relative privacy. Among the staff, Lorena (the owner) was particularly welcoming and kind. In the morning, she would give activity suggestions and can set you up with discounted Cinque Terre passes. Her presence was a huge positive factor for my overall mixed review. The complimentary cake and tea/coffee served in the morning was nice and a peaceful setting. Proximity to train station made traveling between towns very convenient. An added note, the climb up to the property is completely fine for anyone with average fitness levels. We had carry on suitcases and did not struggle.
The room size and nearby train station noise really detracts from the experience. It's hard to relax in your room as there's only room for 1 bed and nothing else. Your ability to tolerate the train noise will also depend on each person - I live in a city near subways/public transportation and found the regular train noise not too jarring, however any of the high speed trains coming through were very noticeable. Additionally, the thin curtains let in too much light in the mornings.
Bathrooms were average, but some details were overlooked - for example, a cleaning bottle was left hanging on the towel hook upon check in and shower grout was in need of a deep clean. The water pressure was, unfortunately, non existent.
Lastly, I really struggled with the communication with Sara, who manages the whatsapp communications (needed for checking in). I had an unauthorized charge on my credit card from the property months before check in that was outside of the rate fee. I tried to follow up multiple times to resolve the issue, but was largely ignored. Trying to resolve it in person was also to no avail. Ultimately, I had to let my bank handle it after my trip ended as I didn't want to risk my reservation being impacted before arrival. The lack of professionalism in this case ended up casting a negative shadow across the whole experience, therefore I can't recommend staying.

Lovely well appointed apartment in a beautiful village.
This was a beautiful, if small, apartment with great aircon which was needed for unseasonal heat in June. Location to the train station was convenient (it actually overlooks the train station so there is mild station noise but this was not a problem). Having coffee with Lorena next door in the cafe was a highlight (I’m still not sure how she is connected to the apartment owners). Her English was great and she helped us decide what to do for the day and had access to the discounted Cinque Terre hiking and train passes and instructions on the hop off ferry. A more detailed information pack would have been useful- with information on the passes provided, restaurants in town, location of the laundry services etc.
Communication was not as good as I expected. Even prior to leaving for our trip there was no response to my booking.com message, WhatsApp messages and phone call. It all worked out but communication even during our stay was not the best eg when the wifi went down no confirmation on when it would be up again and when we left the apartment I messages the WhatsApp number and had no acknowledgment or response. Just a bit weird.

Casa Cato an awesome place to stay when visiting the Cinque Terre
Beautiful location, view and close to 5 Terre transportation. Lorena the site host was the best!! She helped us plan our days, by providing suggestions on day trips, 5 Terre discount tickets and restaurants. Thanks so much for making our short trip in the Cinque Terre so memorable.
There was nothing not to like.

Spectacular view.
Incredible views in one of the most spectacular places on earth. The location is very convenient to the train station and the rest of the town. Loved it.
Nothing negative. Just know you'll need to climb some stairs. The hotel will arrange someone to carry your bags for you if that's an issue, however.

The location and view on the terrace are excellent. The staff give good information and good communication.

Wonderful stay.the 73 steps was worth it. I would not recommend the restaurant

Food was not allowed in room. I would love to have snack or dinner on the balcony to see sunset

Convenient location and beautiful views
The location was very convenient and the views were great, exactly what it looks like online! The property is very close to the train station but we didn’t have any problem with noise at night, it was actually very convenient to be so close to everything. The host was very sweet when we met her in person and even made us a cappuccino before we departed.
Communication on WhatsApp was difficult at times. We checked in on a Tuesday when the restaurant was closed so the gate to our rooms was locked which made things difficult until we got our key. Would be nice to have someone there when you are first arriving. Water pressure in the shower could be better.

We really enjoyed staying at Casa Cato, and it was a great base for exploring the Cinque Terre
The room was beautifully appointed and had one of the most comfy beds we have encountered in Italy. Also, lovely soft pillows. While the room was small, it was well thought out - lots of cupboard and hanging space and a functional bathroom with a heated towel rail. The view from the balcony was spectacular. The hosts were lovely - obviously, it is run as a family affair and there was lots of attention to detail.
It was a little difficult to find at first as the laneways in Vernazza are very small and narrow, and it was difficult lugging heavy bags up multiple flights of steps, but that is the price you pay for the view.

Beautiful view - communication could be improved.
The view is outstanding. Really can't be better. Loved sitting on the balcony.
The staff wasn't very friendly and not good with communication. Got the directions - which are difficult, after walking all through town. They finally sent a video showing how to get to the room. Note - lots of stairs.

We loved our stay and would stay again.
Loved our view it’s exactly like the photos! The staff were very friendly.
Too close to the train station it was noisy. Lots of stairs with luggage however we knew this before so we were prepared for it.

Beautiful spot, kind and engaging staff.
The view was beautiful. The hostess was kind and knowledgeable. The room was nice and had all amenities needed. The town was beautiful.
I really liked the room however, felt it may have been a bit overpriced the days we stayed. It was a bit difficult to find with google maps but we figured it out without much difficulty. There are 95 steps to the room which contributes to beautiful view

The views will not disappoint.
The location is great overlooking the town of Vernassa. The room was small but well appointed and comfortable.
Lorena provide coffee and cake from 9 to 10am and provided advice on trains and travel plans. Lorena was friendly and helpful giving really good advice and providing discounts on train and trekking tickets. The other staff unfortunately were somewhat aloof.
We ate at the restaurant one night which is small and sits maybe 20 people. We were somewhat surprised that there were no menus and you ordered using the QR code via your phone avoiding dealing with a waiter. We felt the restaurant did not have the character and atmosphere of others in the town.
To have views you have to get high so be prepared for a good workout getting your bags to the premises!

Great location, check your reservation closely!
Great view, location, comfortable bed, clean. Nice cappuccino and cake in the morning. The communal terrace is very nice.
According to Booking.com I had booked a room with a terrace. I emailed the property over a week in advance to confirm we would have a balcony. They responded with "your reservation is confirmed", there was no balcony. We also had noisy footsteps and furniture sliding around above us often morning and late at night. Fortunately, we could sit out on the communal terrace, or it would have been even more disappointing.

We enjoyed visiting all the towns, each being very different and recommend the round boat trip to Porto Venere
This property is expensive if you pay the full price. The room had its own front door from the walkway, was small but well appointed with a comfortable bed, lovely shower room and great view from the balcony. However there is no breakfast or facilities for preparing your own but a cup of coffee and cake is provided next door with Lorena who was good in advising on activities. The walks from Vernazza are hard involving many steps but the views are spectacular. Pack light since the walkway up is steep and contains 75 steps! Help with luggage is charged at 15/20 euros. Recommend Taverna del Capito as good value for money.

Excellent stay! We hope to return to stay longer!
The view is simply amazing! We enjoyed our private balcony so much that we decided not to hike and instead savor the view and lovely town. The room was very clean and had all that we needed. I can’t say enough about the hospitality we received. We will be back!

Highly recommend - would definitely stay here again.
An amazing stay, would stay here again and highly recommend to others. From the beginning ataff were super helpful helping to coordinate parking and luggage. The room was perfect - great location, amazing view/ balcony and very clean. Glad we chose to stay here out of the 5 towns. It was was still quaint and relaxing but has lovely food and restaurant options int town.
Nothing. Accomodation was perfect, just be prepared that the town is quite small so bring some cards and enjoy the laid back lifestyle.
