Dragonfly Village

Friendly, rustic guesthouse with pretty gardens, overlooking rice terraces, and with a communal pool, hidden just a short distance away from the hustle and bustle of central Ubud. Delicious and generous breakfast, with responsive, welcoming and helpful staff.

Like a lot of Indonesian guesthouses, the property has many gaps, air holes and openings so you have to expect a certain amount of insect activity, especially in the bathrooms. The room did include mosquito nets on the beds, but was a little dark.

This quiet little sanctuary is perfect if you’re wanting to slow down and truly disconnect from the real world. The location is excellent as it’s in rice fields but still walkable to get to the main street. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was staying in a little fairy cottage. The staff were excellent, the included breakfast was lovely (including cuddles from resident cat, Caramel) and the facilities were great. It was easy to organise to have my laundry done and organise any activities I wanted to do during my stay. When I had a night time flight, they happily extended my stay at a discounted rate so I could check out in the evening.

My cabin was very dark, making it difficult for me to see but I understand that would help to keep the place cool as there’s no AC. There were also lots of mosquitoes and other bugs around, but repellent was provided which was useful — but if you don’t like bugs I wouldn’t recommend this place as the bathrooms are all outside.

I loved this accomodation, the herbal sauna, the staff (Riri was really friendly!), the other guests are awesome, they have live instruments to play with too some nights.

The room was a cute bungalow in a beautiful garden next to the rice fields, where at night, you could see fireflies. Although it was in Ubud, the place was very quiet and away from the normal business of the city. Our kids really enjoyed staying there. The staff was very attentive and helpful. The vegetarian/vegan breakfast was surprisingly good (including their sourdough bread).

There wasn't much we didn't like. If anything, in our room, the internet was not so strong at times.
