Met in reception and they parked the car and took case to room, check in was quick, and room was ready on arrival, dinner was fine dining and very good, staff all pleasant and attentive, breakfast in the morning was continental buffet and hot food cooked to order.
Some of the furniture in the room was scruffy ie headboard had scuffs on the material and the coffee table was marked, tiles in the shower room floor were all marked and the paint work could be doing with a freshen up.

The castle is nice, nothing special or memorable. The spa facilities are outdated and changing facilities need updated.
The spa facilities were very underwhelming, the rooms are basic, lack in character.

Location and the snow helped.
It’s a 4 star trying to pretend to be a 5. Service in restaurants was poor. One restaurant closed and we were not advised of this in booking.

Beautiful scenery. Cozy atmosphere. Lovely staff. Very attentive.
The pool area in the spa was too cold. The pool was also too cold. There were not enough loungers near the pool.

Very hot when entering the room, but not an issue as everything else was fabulous

Nice location
Seemed a bit empty. One restaurant closed that we were not advised of. 10 minutes waiting on someone to appear to check us in. All felt a bit empty and ‘faulty towers like’. Restaurant service was terrible for all breakfasts and dinner.

The room was huge (woodland suite) and the bed was very big and very comfy. The tunnocks in the room was a lovely touch. The views from the hotel are fabulous and the food (both dinner and breakfast) were delicious.
There were a few things that admittedly are small, but because so many things were so good these things became noticeable - and were not expected from a 5 star hotel. There was no doormat in the lodge - this means you are coming from outside straight onto carpet meaning the carpet felt dirty. In general the room needed smartening up, the door to the bathroom didn’t close properly and the wooden furniture had chips in it. We ate dinner in 1892 where the service was sub par, we felt it was slow but could see diners around us being ignored etc. The lighting was also too bright in the restaurant. The outside pool was so cold it was unusable so this was particularly disappointing. The issues were small and so I hope these are resolvable for future.

Great location, food and staff
Needs small bedroom chair to allow you to dry your hair sitting down

The staff are very friendly & attentive. The room & hotel were spotlessly clean. The breakfast was plentiful & good quality produce. Nice little extras in the room. Great location but unless you're into hill walking you would need a car. Very close to the Theatre. Lovely views, on a good day.
Claims to be dog friendly, however dogs are only allowed in your room, they are not allowed in any part of the hotel. We stayed in a Woodland Lodge. Its not in Woodland at all. Whilst there are some trees, the lodges are basically further up the carpark. Whilst the Lodge rooms are lovely & very spacious there are extortionately overpriced for what is essentionally a motel room. The hotel prices are also extortionate. When checking our bill I later saw that I had donated £2 to trees. Ok only £2 but I should have been asked! The actual castle itself does not make up much of the hotel, has it is tiny. The hotel is a mix of add-ons & separate buildings, which is not great when the weather is torrential & you have to put your waterproofs on to use the spa & go for breakfast.

Everything was going well until breakfast on 22 December. We waited 40 minutes for our hot food order and when it came one part of it was wrong. The whole atmosphere was chaotic with many guests complaining about waiting for food, coffee, etc.. The problem seemed to be shortage of staff and poor management. As we were leaving after breakfast our departure was delayed and we had with a poor impression of what we thought would be 5 star experience.

Everything. One of a kind in regards to service, attentiveness and focus on customer satisfaction is by far the best I have experienced. All staff were very friendly, and couldn’t do enough for you. Made us feel so welcome and made our experience amazing.

The hotel is in a great location, accessibility and scenery wise. It’s is clean and tidy throughout with comfy furnishings. The food is lovely and there is a good selection in the bar.
We did not have any biscuits to go with our in room teas and coffee.

Didn't get a treatment but wasn't impressed of spa facilities.

The decor ,views, staff
I felt there was a lack of atmosphere , particularly on a Saturday evening in the festive season. We noticed there was a piano in the dining room and were hopeful/thinking
That there maybe some one playing it when dining ….to add to the ambience, would have made a difference. Felt for a 5 star hotel some form of effort should have been made .I was treating a friend to a luxury getaway and I was disappointed in that element.

Every member of staff, we came in contact with were ,pleasant and very helpful . Being disabled i am often spoken to in a very patronising manner, but this is one of only a handful of hotels where this was not the case. Any problems we did have ( minor things, like no shampoo in shower etc ) were quickly sorted by staff who were eager to help make our stay as lovely as possible. The food was lovely, and as I have only a very small appetite, the catering team were happy to sort this out for me.
I had a hot stone massage whilst staying here for 3nights. It was the BEST hot stone massage I've ever had ...so a big thanks to Anna.
The view from restaurant over the loch was wonderful, even though the weather was "dreich" .
We stayed in a superior woodland lodge, and the space in room was great for me being able to maneuver my wheelchair . It's definitely worth paying a little extra ,if you can afford it, as there are so many " extras" which helped to make our stay more enjoyable. ( a fridge, ĺarge comfy bed, nespresso machine, fresh milk, if required, large comfy couch as well as 2 comfy armchairs, 2 bottles water each day).
We shall definitely return here, and thoroughly recommend this hotel if you're looking for some peace & quiet, with luxury & great service included.
The only thing I would fault the hotel on, is more could be done, via some minor changes, to make this hotel more readily accessible for disabled guests . We did have a chat with the General Manager before we left, and she was eager to hear what our thoughts were , giving us assurance that the hotel would invest in some small pieces of equipment to aid other disabled guests in the near future. So we shall see what happens.

Location was perfect. Breakfast was nice
Our lodge smelled of damp. It was smaller and more basic than I expected

Excellent location, visually beautiful, lovely attentive staff.
For 5 stars just a couple of minor issues. Broken tiles in the steam room with a jagged edge which I sat on and Elevator glass, mirror doors and floor very dirty. Just expected better attention to detail for a 5 star hotel!

Beautiful property in a wonderful location . Views from bar and restaurant are stunning!!
Proximity to Pitlochry festival theatre was brilliant had a blustery walk down by the Salmon ladder and back . Great place to stay if attending the theatre. We had a lovely over night stay celebrating my sisters 60 th Birthday! The staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Thanks to you all.
Nothing really

Very tired. Some of the decor was like something from Trump tower. Poor service at dinner. Poor value for money for both the stay and dinner

Fabulous setting. Lovely hotel. Excellent staff. Lovely spa. Enjoyed our stay
The spa treatment prices were too high. Have stayed at many spa hotels and feel the prices need to be more reasonable. We didn’t have a treatment and would have liked to have one.

10.0 / 10.0
The hotel was fabulous and the view overlooking the loch was amazing. The staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We had a wonderful stay and we will be back
The 1862 restaurant could have been a bit more extensive and varied although we were very pleased with the quality of the food we had.
8.0 / 10.0
Very comfortable. Generous sized rooms. Good spa.
The staff were exceptional.
It was clean enough but a few minor details on lift doors etc. would have made it perfect. One or two more lights by the outdoor spa would slo be helpful
4.0 / 10.0
'Meet and greet' from the concierge was good - friendly and helpful. Also the 'wee dram' when checking in. Nice bathroom with walk-in shower. Umbrella in lodge rooms in case of rain, but see below re lack of covered access.
Bed too high to get in easily. Only one hand towel. No information folder; e.g. about hotel facilities, emergencies, or even how to contact reception. No covered access to lodge rooms. Afternoon tea over-priced, not good value for money. Had to cut short our stay due to sickness - disappointed with attitude of spa/reception staff requiring payment in full for cancelled booking for massage - payment was grudgingly waived once we had returned home.

Everything! From the warm welcome we received by Moira and Michael on our arrival, our beautiful room overlooking the gorgeous grounds, dinner in the restaurant that night and our delicious breakfast the next day. Thank you Fonab Castle Team - you are all exceptional!

The staff were excellent, afternoon tea very good and room very comfortable. Situation stunning.
The room was very cold when we arrived. The door in our bathroom was very scratched and looked scruffy. The pool had a ball of hair at the side, the pool tiles are needing repaired in areas. In the spa changing rooms, some of soap and hand lotion dispensers were empty and the tops weren't properly on them. One of the toilet doors didn't close properly and in the shower the conditioner was empty and body wash difficult to dispense. These are all small things, but it didn't feel 5 star
