Hux Hotel, Kensington

The lift didn’t service the ground floor so we became quite use to using the stairs. Wouldn’t work for some people!

We were unsure, before arriving, that we could truly believe the photos on the website but they are definitely accurate. The decor is very different, with a lot of exotic stuffed animals, vibrant colours and lighting. The bar was great with excellent, albeit expensive, cocktails served by a knowledgable barman. All of the staff were attentive and friendly. Our rom was small but very nice. On the first night we had a problem with some marks on our bedding which was dealt with very promptly. We were moved to another larger room and our situation was taken seriously and dealt with really well. This was a hiccup and we could tell that this was not a normal situation or from general bad practice. Overall, this was a great choice for us and we would definitely return. There was no restaurant or breakfast onsite although some websites gave the impression that there is.

They didn't serve breakfast. They made me 2 coffees one on each day that I was there. The room was very small. Ok for one but I think rather tight for 2

The location is good being close the Kensington High St

The room was very small with little storage space for clothes and the double bed was pushed right up against the window. When the air conditioning was turned on there was a stale smell in the room so it was better to open the window for air. Having paid up front for 2 nights we were a bit surprised to have a letter pushed under the door on the last night with an ‘invoice’ for a discretionary 5% service charge. The explanation given was than nobody carries cash any more so the staff do not get as much in tips for their service. We reluctantly paid it having been assured that all of the money went to the staff.
