Beautiful place in every way. Amazing original features and all mod cons for a great stay. Jonathon on reception was fantastic, interested in us and remembering what we were there for, even to ask the next morning.

I would stay here again as a last resort.

Location is perfect for central station, 10 minutes or so walk the major shopping stores. Staff were helpful, excellent and friendly. Every staff member I encounter said hello/good morning etc. The lobby area was clean and tidy. I didn't eat at the hotel, but the room service menu looked good (apart from the £6 tray charge)

The room itself was OK, you couldn't open the window, as the sash wouldn't stay open, so I had to prop it open. The nets were grey from mould and need dipping. There was no hair dryer in the room, and the iron was a cheap travel iron. The window sills were dusty in the corners. The bathroom was quite poor. There was no window covering, thankfully the glass was frosted. This window was also painted shut, there was no extraction or heating in this room so condensation built up quickly. It's not a room i would want to stay in in the middlenof winter! There was also issues with the hot water where it constantly fluctuating between scalding and freezing. Also some of the electrical appliance testing appeared to be out of date.

Former grand hotel, needs a refresh in perfect location

Location is fabulous. I didn’t eat breakfast as it was an extra charge - ditto the pool. The former glamour of the Victorian hotel is evident but needs a refresh of carpets and paintwork

Perfect base for a solo traveller.

Perfect facilities in the bedroom. Ideal for a base for a theatre visit. Leisure facilities basic but enjoyable. I agree with the £5 charge for guests as it is looking run down.

I went down for breakfast at 9.15am & there was very little left & no effort to replenish despite breakfast finishing at 10am. I would stay here again but wouldn't pay for the breakfast. There are better & cheaper options in town.

Fine, but the facilities were closed!

The facilities closed before I checked in at 6pm! I only booked that hotel because it had a gym and pool. If I had known it closed so early I wouldn’t have stayed there. Also there was loud music late into the night. Beyond midnight!

Grand hotel, friendly staff, great location

The location was great. The staff really friendly. I stayed for the GNR and the thought given to information and help for the day was a really lovely touch.

The bathroom facilities need updating. I thought the bath was dirty but was actually worn in places. The mechanism for closing/opening the bath plug needed changing as worked on it's own! However the room was really clean and comfy. Windows not soundproof and could hear all of Newcastles night life well into the early hours.

Breakfast was fine. Bed was comfortable. Really appreciated the ear plugs. Staff were all helpful and charming.

I find climbing in and out of a bath in order to shower quite difficult so would prefer a stand-alone shower. No hair dryer. Tea, coffee and biscuits a bit mean.

Newcastle Jolly

Hotel was ideally located straight out of the Metro station, close to all amenities. The receptionist Amber went above and beyond with her friendly helpful manner and attention to detail, a pleasure to deal with, would definitely use the hotel again for any further visits to Newcastle. Their carvery on the Sunday was good Value and well worth the money.

Bar/restaurant, Lewis was an excellent barman with a great hairstyle, and Leon was so kind and efficient and painstaking that I'm sure he will be valued and rewarded by any organization he works for. I could see that all clients responded positively to the two. The building is well preserved and cared for inside and out.

A small group of winos outside, smoking and slapping, when I arrived gave a bad first impression, but this is not really something the hotel can solve easily and a few hours later they disappeared.

It was the perfect location for what we wanted.

Got charged for the leisure club with only 50 minutes left. Got told there was money off drinks but this was only 12-4..... We bought the vouchers at 4pm.

Good hotel let down by a poor room.

Location, entrance area, bar, staff and breakfast were all great.

Our room had no window that you could see out of, nor a window that could open. It was dark and stuffy. Added to this the air-conditioning was out of order so the room was boiling and airless.
