Everything you could want for a good value stay.

Lovely staff, good location for the University, and of course it’s a pub!

The radiator in the main room didn't work. So cold. Extractor fan in bathroom very loud. Im almost completely deaf with hearing aids and could still hear it.

It's a pub with rooms. Rooms are slightly tired & definitely budget, but that's fine cos so is the price. The breakfast was ok, but maybe a bit overpriced compared to similar alternatives.

Friendly staff, clean and comfortable. Everything needed was there. Clear instructions.

Radiator didn’t turn off in bathroom so very hot and had to have windows open, which allowed noise in from outside affecting sleep.

The place should be called the Good Mare!

Very comfortable and clean, also quiet as room away from fairly main road. Double room given but I used as single. Perhaps a little bijou for 2 as only one sitting chair. Tea and coffee facilities..no decaff but minor point. Instant hot water at wash basin as well as shower. Good storage very good value for money. Up too early to use breakfast facility but looked good to me at reasonable price (£9 for full EB). Probably one of the best hotels at which I've stayed..(am 87!)O

Bit of a ? healthy walk through hotel to room at back. Think if you were disabled you could book early for more adjacent room. Minor moan re decaff but guess on a return visit would ask on booking.

Overall a pleasant stay with nice facilities and kind staff

Idea property with close proximity to the university, rooms are clean and comfortable with plenty of space. Despite being next to a main road and above a pub when in the room no noise can be heard. Much larger then Expected Strong water pressure I’m 6ft+ and there was plenty of room in the bath

The only downside was the hot breakfast wasn’t as nice as expected given the usual quality of food

Fine for a night but needs a bit of tlc

Convenient to University. Nice staff. Clean sheets and towels and carpet. Beds comfy. Big Tv. Convenient with bar and parking.

I knew on booking it would be basic but booked as wanted to be as close to the uni as possible. Generally needs a bit of tlc in rooms. Fine for a night but not longer. Lamp shade missing, no lamps would turn on. Stained toilet, although looks like rust. Paper peeling away in cupboard. Marks on walls in bedroom. Material on headboards worn away. Chair visible dirt on material. Bathroom sink didn’t drain. Just fix these and would be fine. Staff are great just the rooms needs fixing.

A great place to stay apart from the heat in the room.

The bed was very comfortable, there were tea and coffee making facilities that were replenished once I’d used them, the bathroom was a very good size with an efficient shower. The location was also very good and the price was excellent.

The room was far too hot even with all the windows open and it was impossible to turn the radiators off.

Great location, well priced, lovely staff, hottest room I have ever stayed in.

The staff were great, very helpful. The location for visiting/collecting my son from Uni could not have been better. My only issue was the windows in the bathroom could do with a blind (I know the glass is frosted) and the room itself was hotter than the surface of the sun and there was no way to control the temperature.

The only issue I had was that the room was too hot. The radiator in the bathroom was red hot and I couldn't turn it off. I had a window open and it didn't help. I didn't sleep well as a result

Very enjoyable will stay there again

The property was nice and in a close vicinity to Hull. We had a bath and shower in our room and a comfortable bed. Had some home comforts kettle tea and coffee and enough space to hang your clothes.

Felt the room could have done updating with a touch of paint.

Grotty rooms badly in need of a refurbishment

Breakfast is ok and location is good if you want to be near university

The rooms are grotty and badly in need of a spruce up. My loo didn't flush properly. There was a tiny TV on the wall that was pretty much pointless. I would only recommend a stay here if you're just looking for somewhere for a night or two and not too fussy about it being a bit grotty. Breakfast is £9 extra if you want it and is not bad but you have to be up early to get it. They stop serving at 9am.

The cleaning could of been up to better standard the bedding had stains on the duvet cover there was hair all over the bathroom and if you checked the bath plug it was stuck in there too bathroom could definitely do with an upgrade there was a build of limescale in the bottom of the loo and the door outside my hotel room could do with a soft close as it banged shut every time someone went through

Great basic accommodation

Great location for the University and Newland avenue. Adequate parking for our stay. Some of the rooms have been given a lick of paint and new toilets. We always feel safe here. You have a direct line to the manager if you need anything in the night. Another enjoyable stay for myself and my daughter.

the room was tiny , with mould on the wall. the floor in the bar was sticky and needed a good clean, the whole place was overdue for painting some years ago

Ideally located for an event at the university. The place is a little dated with the trademark British hotel creaky floorboards but was quite comfortable and good value.

Very close to the university so great for the event I was attending. Rooms were good value and the staff very friendly and helpful.
