Would not recommend it to my worst enemy

My experience at this property was extremely disappointing. Communication was essentially non-existent—the owner never replied to any of my messages before or during my stay. Upon arrival, I was given a room that was completely different from what had been advertised and located in a noisy house at a different address. Within 20 minutes of being there, the fire alarm went off because someone had burned something in the communal kitchen. I was then moved to another room in a quieter, though still far from quiet, house, where noise from neighbouring rooms was very noticeable. I attempted to shorten my stay due to the state of the accommodation, but again received no response from the owner. The manager also smelled strongly of tobacco every time she came out of her room, which did not help the overall impression. The entire property was filthy, with dust and fluff under the bed, stains and grease on the fridge, and general lack of upkeep. My bedsheets and towels were never changed throughout my stay (6 days). Overall, the property fell well below expectations in cleanliness, communication, and comfort. I would not recommend staying here. EDIT AFTER RESPONSE FROM THE OWNER: after I posted this review the owner finally replied to my multiple messages and my cancellation request. They asked why I had not contacted booking.com (which I had done, but they signposted me to contact the property directly). DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR SLEEP HERE!

An interesting experience

The location was perfect , right beside a bus stop and only a ten minute ride to the centre. The beds were surprisingly comfortable. The price is good for Oxford. Check in was quite seamless.

Everything is a little rough around the edges. The decor everywhere is completely bizarre (but also kind of funny). Overall everything is a little just rough around the edges for example the biscuits in our room had been out of date for well over a year. Nothing is truely awful more so a really funny experience.

Cheap. It did for one night but probably wouldn’t stay again

Parking was available and it was a cheap nights stay.

The front door didn’t unlock and properly and it took us half an hour to get into the property. Then room door key didn’t work properly either. We addressed this when we arrived but the staff said the key worked but it didn’t. I wouldn’t stay there again purely because of the key issue. The pillows were hard and thin. There was not much electrical safety, there was an extension cable on top of the sofa and lots of clutter in the reception area.

Poorly maintained hotel

Location fab for 20 minute walk to Oxford or buses frequently to town centre of Oxford.

Room was poorly maintained floor boards, wardrobes, outdated and shared bathroom . Seperate block from main hotel. As a single woman, I felt quite intimated by men just in my part of hotel, loud at night, sharing alcohol and using shared kitchen space, which was near my room. This made me feel vulnerable using a shared bathroom with men around whilst I slept I was glad of having a lock on my door..

Underwhelming accommodation - insecure, and the facilities unsatisfactory.

The Guesthouse was a distance from the city centre, but there were regular and quick transport links (i.e. buses, every 5 minutes, which took 10 minutes to the centre), so this was not an issue. Also, numerous eateries, restaurants and pubs, close to the accommodation. The bed was clean, and comfortable to sleep in.

The actual accommodation was not in the building advertised: it was situated perhaps 500 metres from the actual building where I arrived to collect the key and book in. The room was not the one in the picture in the booking, as far as I could make out. There was a flat roof opposite the window to the room, which meant I could not keep the window open at night or when out in case of intruders, so the room was stuffy in the heat. The lock on the door seemed flimsy and inadequate, which meant I didn't leave valuables when away from the building. The shower facility was dirty, and I so couldn't take a shower, as well as there being only one working tap in the wash basin, and no hot water or plug; this was inadequate, in view of the warm weather. The TV was only tuned to a small number of channels: I was unable to watch any news program. I understand the accommodation was advertised at low cost, but this all falls beneath the standard to be expected.

Bait and Switch. The picture they showed of our room was not the room we got. Everything in our room was broken or dirty, from the furniture, to the fridge to the beds. The flooring was worn out and literal one inch holes in the floors where the bed frames made contact. The bathrooms were dirty and the kitchen that is shown in the pictures must have been taken years ago as it was dirty. I went to open the fridge, and it was greasy and gross. Kettle in our room was gross inside. The towels were hard, like they were line dried and smelled moldy when we used them, the beds squeaked every time we moved. We went and bought pillows and pillowcases as the pillows were terrible. Also, they put an old wine bottle filled with water, by the glasses in our room, which said not to remove it from the room. No worry there, as that is highly unsanitary. I have never written a bad review, but this place was the worst place we have ever stayed, and it wasn't inexpensive.

I can honestly say there wasn’t anything I liked about this property.

It turned out it was a bedroom in someone else’s house 5 minutes down the road. It was dirty, lots of hazards, no door on the toilet, a window where people could watch us and many more things. We did not feel safe at all.

Do not book this property it is as doggy as it gets

On arrival to the guest house we where given keys and told to go half a mile up the road to another property and let's put it that was it was a low end student bedsit situation doors broken in a bathroom paint on a floor sink cracked TV didn't work remote control was literally smashed with bits hanging off sink in a bathroom was cracked oh lord it was just the worst and I am disgusted that booking.com actually allows this sort of thing to happen

The location and neighborhood! The woman in the reception was so nice!

It was the worse place that i never had been in terms of cleaning standards ! Mattress too old and uncomfortable, lots spiders, kitchen and bathrooms were disgusting! I don’t think that they cleaned the place in the last 2 years!

Location

The property clearly needs renovation. The electric plugs would not pass an electric inspection. The sink in the bathroom was leaking. The radiator in the bathroom was stuck on - the control knob had been broken off- which was particularly troublesome as it was the hottest day of the year. There was ceiling plaster on the floor. There were peculiar items in the dressers from previous occupiers, said dressers mostly also did not have handles and had nails sticking out. The front door lock is broken. There were multiple empty fish tanks in the corridor. The parking was also difficult. The towels had stains on them, unclear if they had been washed or were very old, as one was grey and the other had multiple dark stains on it. The furniture was old and worn. Only some of the windows had functional handles and there was a handle in the drawer. A lot of dust under the bed and broken glass.

The stay was awful, the mattress was worn out, the other guests hammered at the door at 5 in the morning (front door) why? Because the front door lock was broken so it was kept wide open or weirdly locked at night it was not at all secure. The shower was never hot (yes I tried every setting) one of the windows wouldn't close and the lock of the room was not secure. The WiFi just stopped working 3/4s of the time. This place was terrible and so expensive to be that terrible. I had bad university sccomidation that was cheaper for a whole month that was better.

Cheap accommodation on the up.

This property gets better all the time from its low base about 2 to 3 years ago. It is cleaner brighter and some updating has happened. Good selection of tea coffee and biscuits. For Oxford it is competitively cheap and good for us by the music venues and night life.

Usual poor furniture surrounding check in, still falling down and apart. Poor decoration and carpets outside of our room which we have always requested, which is much improved. Our door still does not lock easily and the following morning main door to street seemed to have been left ajar. The initial appearance of door and property remains poor. No obvious key drop.

Oxford girly weekend

Had a wonderful stay( our 2nd time staying).Really clean ,staff were really friendly and couldn’t do enough for us A-nice walk down to Oxford centre,but buses are frequent.It has a lovely pub oppersit ,that do nice meals.I throughly recommend staying there.

The worst place I’ve ever stayed.

There was plenty of toilet paper. Walking distance to decent curb-side parking, despite it being a few minutes walk away.

I would never recommend this anyone to stay here. The bathrooms and kitchen area were unacceptably dirty. There was an unknown yellow muck on the bathroom walls. Black mould. The beds were stiff.

First time in a guest house in Oxford.

It was clean, there was a fridge and small coffees etc. The location was reasonable. Was handy that it was on a bus route.

The fact that I thought it was a bed and breakfast, but that was not the case. Otherwise it was close to places to eat and small shops.

Pleasant and safe.

Bathroom was clean and looked nice. Price is good value and the location is brilliant as its 15 minute walk into city centre in a straight line or on a major bus route.

Parking, tarmac is all cut up and bumpy. Needs surfacing to make it easier to park. Door handle needs fixing and curtains need replacing too. A pleasant guest house but needs some touching up but overall good value for money in a good location.
