Old Ferry Boat by Greene King Inns

Fantastic old beamed thatched riverside Inn in the little village of Holywell a couple of miles outside St Ives, Cambs. Super location next to the river, picturesque thatched cottages in village, fab in the summer as large beer garden, the pub inside has oodles of character and history, there is nothing not to like. The food I guess is a typical Green King restaurant menu and food was nice/tasty. On a super hot April weekend the place was expectedly busy so a little wait for the food was ok. My wife and I stayed for two nights whilst visiting my home town of Cambridge and a bed and breakfast basis, the room we stayed in (cannot comment on the others) was very small, overlooked a flat roof over the back, from the noise below I'm guessing somewhere over the kitchen and somewhat dated, tired and desperately in need of decoration. Ensuite was again small, functional but again desperately in need of updating. The cleanliness in the room was average at best. Bed was comfy. Our breakfast in the morning was lovely and set us up for the day. Staff where kind, polite and helpful. Such as shame the room let the stay down as we both loved the place, would I want to stay again, I'd like to say yes but definitely not in room 6, maybe we were unlucky & just got a bad room & others were ok. Come on Green King, you can do better than that, it spoils a little gem of a place.
