- Beautiful surrounds
- Room spacious and comfortable beds
- good aircon in room
- lovely breakfast on the terrace
Addressed with Management after check out (was only a one night stay) but essentially:
- they prepped the room for two and we were three on the booking (housekeeping missed the brief so only two towels and only two waters and room service closed when we returned late at night to only find the then)
- very leaky shower that wouldn’t run hot water no matter yow long we stood there and waited (sadly also only found out when we woke up in the morning
- despite advertised “smart TV” - with instructions in the room - sadly our room had been overlooked for this “upgrade” at time of our stay. So we searched in vain late that night looking for entertainment.
Whilst none of these issues could be directly remedied a token maybe breakfast voucher offer would have been a nice touch. As it was all we got an email assuring us that all those issues were resolved - great news for the next guests.

A lovely relaxed setting in the gardens away from the busy town but close enough to be there in no time!
The staff were all very friendly but perhaps need some better work flow systems in the dining room. Dinner was ok but not exceptional.

Close to Stellenbosch. Picturesque. The staff member made an effort to correct the room set up after it was not correct. The waitron also made an effort to get the breakfast corrected as the egg temperature was incorrect. Staff members were friendly. The room was clean and comfortable.
The facility is old which is to be expected. Unfortunately the room wasn't made up as per request (due to room change) however this was corrected late at night on arrival. My family member was there on her birthday. There was not any special effort made to acknowledge her birthday, despite informing and even on their documentation stating (where required) that there was a special celebration. The rooms are unfortunately not sound proof (specifically due to the wooden flooring) so if you are a light sleeper, you can hear people walking around on the floor boards.

The room was comfortable, clean and a good size. The hotel is situated in a beautiful location. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful.

We had a lovely supper in the bar. Breakfast was very good and we enjoyed it. The room was spacious and had a view. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a wonderful stay.
The design of the bathroom was poor. The hooks for hanging your dressing gown and the towel rail were in the shower almost under the rain shower head, so they would have got soaked and there was nowhere else to hang your towel near the shower. There were no facecloths in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable, but there was only a duvet, no top sheet. the weather was hot and so the duvet was not an option. The mosquitoes were insistent but there was no mosquito oven or anything like that. Under the rules for 4 star rating in RSA, this hotel did not meet the requirement.

The view of the valley from our room was exceptional. We loved the peace and quiet here. The restaurant served excellent food and the portions were always far too big for us! The gardens and the pool below the hotel were a peaceful place to pass the time. The hotel is also very close to central Stellenbosch (with a car). We have already booked again.
Nothing.

Stylish interior, gorgeous setting with beautiful views over vineyards, beautiful gardens, good food, friendly staff. Romantic. Rooms were decent size.
Pool area was a bit neglected.

Staff / environment / the resident cat / the fabulous cappuccinos
The room was actually old and for the price I paid surely a better view would have been appreciated. R2600 for an old room, no small fridge was a bit high. The large bed also didn’t seem to have a correct duve size on it. If I have to rate the room alone and the location it’s worth about R1500-1600

It is a beautiful safe property just outside of town overlooking the vineyards
They permit smoking in the common areas like the outdoor dining, gonna ruin the ambience for everyone else.

I just have to say how impressed I am with the staff here. They’re genuinely friendly, quick to respond to calls and requests, and always attentive. They handle things promptly, listen carefully, and even keep the atmosphere light and happy with their warm personalities. It’s rare to see a team that combines professionalism with such kindness and fun energy
Honestly, there wasn’t anything I didn’t like

The location
The fact that i paid for a room with a bath for my wife to relax in and the bath water ran so slow that if I opened the tap it took more than a hour and it didn’t even fill the bath quarter full.I know it is quiet at your facility now so now is the right time to do upgrades or repairs.Ive been to the place before and the standards have dropped quite a bit.😢😢😢

Barman was great and Breakfast staff happy and friendly. Cosy bar area
Travelling a lot staying in many places and hotels one understands the ratings and the “why’s” to pricing but this felt rather expensive for the offering and the room type. Granted it is season . The room is very small for what you are paying.

This was our first stay in South Africa, and within hours of arriving at Devon Valley we knew it would not be our last. This hotel is a hidden gem, set in the beautiful vineyard country close to Stellenbosch. I wish there were more stars to give the staff who made our stay such a joy. Special mentions to Edgar, the manager of the fabulous Flavours restaurant, and Juliano in the bar who could mix the perfect gin martini. I’m sorry I can’t remember her name but the lady on reception was also super helpful organising us a wine tour with a local guide.
The hotel is idyllic, with a great terrace where you can enjoy a meal or drinks while enjoying the magnificent views. We also partook in a wine tasting experience with canapés of some local wines, with Juliano giving us lots of info and also being great company.
Stellenbosch was an easy 5 minute drive and Franschoek around 40 minutes through fabulous scenery. We went on a Friday which was market day where the quality of goods on offer were great.
We spent 3 nights here at the beginning of a 2 week holiday around the Cape and are already planning our return with at least 5 nights at Devon Valley.

It is close enough to Cape Town and Stellenbosch, but isolated enough to really feel like a break away.

Breakfast selection okay. Did accommodate for a spare hair dryer when asked.
Hotel very impersonal. Staff difficult to get a coffee in the morning. Too big a hotel for staff. Family suite wrong layout. Door needed on twin room for baby room.

loved absolutely everything! amazing food and staff! we got engaged here so is now very special to us l!
sadly one thing was the shower temperature and pressure - either freezing or piping cold - couldn’t get a right mix !
7.0 / 10.0
The setting was great. Really beautiful grounds and friendly staff.
Breakfast was good.
1. The wait staff could be more knowledgeable about the food.
2. The water in the shower was either scolding hot and ice cold.... it was basically impossible to get the temperature correct. We eventually gave up and used the bath.
3. We only ordered 3 things other than breakfast:
crumbed camembert - took more than 45mins to arrive and came cold
prawn tempura - basically prawn heads and batter
gnochi rolls - this was just a bad idea and should be removed from menu
-> To sum up.... the food was terrible
4. Ordered 2 cocktails.... also took ages to arrive... more than 40mins... and the restaurant was at 20% capacity so no real reason for the slow service and the cocktails were not good....
There is definite room for improvement in a few areas... but the setting does go a long way... the grounds and view are very very beautiful and the staff were all very friendly.

We enjoyed our time at the pool and the bar. Cocktails were great and the Barmen were attentive. Staff are super friendly and very helpful. The room was cosy and romantic. A cute kitty greeted us at reception :-)
Food could be improved. Not much variety of fruit avail for breakfast and the bacon was terrible. Hard and dry, would be nice to have the option of steaky bacon aswell instead of just back bacon. Ordered a Burger and Cajun Salad for dinner, wasnt impressed. The patty was more like a frikkadel, not much flavour and the roll was a panini, very hard and difficult to cut, should rather be a burger bun. The chicken in my salad was overcooked and hard, lacked flavour and didnt have any Cajun seasoning on it at all. It was very bland.. had very little dressing on it, very basic.
