Helmsman Guesthouse

Beautifully decorated great sized sea view room with comfy armchairs to sit and watch the sea or read, plus another big arm chair. Good light, plenty of clothes space, good en suite with good sized shower. Lovely cooked breccie. Well maintained.

OK sized bed but in the room why not go for a king or better a super king. But the mattress was gone/thin and not v comfy and could feel the bed frame below.

The location to the centre of Aberystwyth is perfect, especially for walking to and from local restaurants at night. The host of (Helmsman) the guest house gave us a warm welcome and directed us to our room, perhaps also realising we had travelled for a few hours and needed a rest, so the welcome was perfectly managed. The room was great, we paid a little extra for a sea view, where we sat with a glass of wine and enjoyed our people watching. We later went to a restaurant for our Saturday evening night out. Despite being a beach front location, there appeared to be little noise. We hardly heard any passers by or traffic, despite having the window open slightly. A good night's sleep was had and I could hardly believe the night's sleep soon lead to breakfast time. Fresh coffee, juices, toast and a cooked (Welsh) breakfast set us up for our morning of activities before our journey home. We checked out with a nice pleasant conversation with the owner, who made us feel one of the family. We will only consider this guest house for future visits to Aberystwyth !

The toilet seat was wobbly and needed attention. But didn't spoil our stay. WIfi was poor and the QR code doesn't integrate with all devices !!!

Did not get the room I had booked( with sea view) I was told there had been a problem with the room (1stfloor)and unavailable.! Offered a larger room -but on a higher floor2 nd floor but as no lift( I have mobility problems)I declined offer of larger room or of free breakfast .. Stayed on 1st floor - but no sea view . Bedroom carpet and bed valance very stained- in need of replacement

Lovely place to stay, very clean, breakfast was superb. Nothing was too much trouble. Alison was a lovely host.

The room was nice and comfortable overall, breakfast was delicious, and the location was impeccable!

Only one of the windows could be opened, meaning that even sitting by the window, there was very little air flow. It was quite hot, and the room was even hotter because of that.

The location was excellent- right on the seafront. The ensuite bathroom was large and had a good shower. Breakfast was good and the proprietor made a generous English breakfast.

Check in only from 2-6 which isn't much time. Trying to arrange for a later arrival given train schedules a bit stressful as the patron doesn't always answer messages or the phone. The room was both expensive and tiny, facing the back of the building. The bed took most of the room, and the mattress was lumpy. The springs (springs!) snapped and groaned when you sat on it. Unnerving.

Its position, friendly host, clean… It’s a proper, old fashioned, seafront front guest house, with lots of original features. Though we didn’t have a seaview, the room was light and airy.. and the bathroom was spacious, with a big window. Parking on the prom is time restricted during the day, but directly behind the hotel, easily accessible through an alleyway, there is unrestricted street parking…

I did let the host know about feeling and hearing the springs in the mattress… she said she would check and get it changed if needed. We liked the bathroom, but it lacked a towel rail (there was plenty of space) and a shelf to keep our toiletries…

Everything was as described and as we expected. We were pleased it wasn't closer to the pier as that was very busy / noisy.

Room was small, overly hot , bed not good. Was not informed about a cycle event . I spoke to several officials and there told me that all hotels and residents were informed about this over a year ago and it's been advertised in all the media. I was informed a half hour before my arrival. Couldn't park because everything was shut down because of the cycling event. Had to pay a lot for parking. If I had known in reasonable time, I would have cancelled and gone elsewhere In Wales.

Located right on the sea front and close to town. Room was spacious and breakfast was fabulous.

A fridge in the room or somewhere to keep things cold. The roller blind was broken and rattled against the window when it was windy.

Very close to the sea, pier, beautiful building, the room was very clean.

Unfortunately, the breakfast is set and finished at 9pm, not a desired time for breakfast when you are on a well earned break away for your birthday. The owner offered no alternative and was verbally rude to my partner. We checked out feeling very hungry and disappointed. Unfortunately, this spoilt what would have been such a great experience and stay in lovely Wales.

The Guest house was discreet, tasteful and quietly welcoming. I loved the wall paper in the bathroom and the generous handful of teabags by the kettle. It was not too modern, there were big windows and I am only very sorry I did not book breakfast as that looked good too. We had a delightful time.

Fantastic host very attentive, room was far superior to what we expected, will definitely book again if ever in the area, breakfast was outstanding with very tastefully decorated envoirement, owner has excellent taste.

Great location and served our purpose.

The saniflo was very loud. The shower rose was fine, the water pressure was excellent. Unfortunately, because you couldn't adjust the water pressure, the shower tray filled up very quickly and as such , you had to turn off the water and stand in the shower, all soaped up, and wait for the level to go down....not pleasant.

I loved the homeliness of it all! The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was AMAZING! The best mushrooms I have ever tasted. I have stayed in a few guest houses in Aber over the years and this is by far the best. You walk out of the main doors and there is the beach. It’s far enough away from the pier nightclub so it is quiet but close enough to everything you would need. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We didn’t have a sea view room but the room we were in was amazing anyway. There is nothing I can fault with the room.
