Disappointing stay

The bed was incredibly comfortable, probably the best night's sleep I've had in a while. The location is perfect.

I have visited Ranald Apartments every year for the last 5 years and I'd say this was the most disappointing stay. Initially walking into the room, there was an overwhelmingly stale, musty smell. It didn't smell clean. We had to go out and buy products to get rid of this smell and open the balcony door for a while. -The apartment looked really tired, definitely needing a refurb. -Our fridge was broken inside, only one tray and no door trays, not ideal for milk or fruit juice standing up, disappointing when you're paying for the facilities. -The lamp in the living room was leaning against the couch as it was loose and obviously broken somewhere. -There were 2 long dark hairs in my bath towel, I have red hair so it wasn't mine. -There was a lingering smell in the bathroom, again it didn't smell clean. -The floor was incredibly creaky, this maybe can't be helped but it added to the tired feeling of the flat. - There were burn marks on the carpet. Marks on the wall. -When pouring the kettle, it leaked out the side so was obviously needing replaced. -The couch in the living area was so uncomfortable, it was solid. -The decor is really dark which made the apartment very dark. The whole flat felt like it needed a complete makeover and when you're paying good money to stay somewhere, you'd hope it would be looked after and maintained. Not sure if I'll be returning which is a shame as this was where we'd stay every time we'd come to Oban.

Stay experience

I liked the apartment itself very clean and cozy; had everything you would need in a hotel apartment.

prefereably water taps should be single flow not 2 seperate because then its either boiling or freezing cold. Second the air vent in the toilet wasnt working. Third the shower water flow was quite weak. But all of this is quite minor overall it was a great stay.

Overall stay was excellent. Ranald Reception is next door to the flat if anything required.

Location of the flat was excellent. Close to everything in Oban and with a decent view of the town and hills. Cooking facilities were all good. Modern bathroom with good shower.

Floor boards in the flat were a bit squeaky but nothing major. This is just a very minor observation as the flat is excellent. We also had 2 single beds joined together when I thought that I was getting a King size bed but again a minor complaint as beds was very comfortable. No house keeping for our 3 nights. This was not a problem but could be if you are staying longer.

Practical but lacking in charm.

We didn’t have breakfast. We liked the staff. They were great. The heating, shower, bed and sofa bed were all good. The kitchen area was very good too. The sofa bed was very comfortable. The bedding was excellent. The cleanliness was very good.

The apartment was a bit bland and spartan. Very business-like but lacked colour, warmth and cosy touches. This would have been appreciated. The entrance, from street door to the door of the apartment was very clean but a bit depressing.

Location of apartment was conveniently situated, but not good to look at.

We were in an apartment - basic but clean, our two meetings with staff were excellent, but the decor and comfort of the apartment was poor on balance - sorry . . . but more attention to important detail is both necessary and desirable.

Apartment was really spacious. Kitchen was equipped with everything you'd need to make something simple. Kettle, microwave, oven. Beds were comfy. There was a hairdryer, a small fan and even an iron and ironing board.

Water pressure in the shower was low.

No cleaning standards at sight

It’s close to the port and to the city center, the bed was comfortable

It was not up to the cleaning standards I would expect, and the maintenance of the installations was extremely poor: ie a broken bin in the bathroom that was disgusting, the water did not properly swallow after the showers, and the kitchen was extremely unclean: see the extraction hood picture (really oily, yikes) plus the oven was not clean either. Plus almost no space in the sleeping zone

Nice accomodations - great location close to the center of town.

The living room and dining room area were really set up nicely. The wifi was great, and the TV had internet options (Youtube, etc) which was nice. Lots of hot water - very nice shower!

There was no actual door to the bedroom - it is separated from the livingroom by a wall. Also no elevator. We were on the first floor, so not too much of a climb, but it's something to note.

Overall it was a great experience and we enjoyed our time in Oban.

The location was wonderful! Then we took apartment was modern and appeared to be new. Mattress was very comfortable and the towels were very plush.

The sink, hot and cold water was separate in the bathroom. The symbols on the stove dial were partially rubbed off so that took a while to figure out.

We were expecting more

Martin was very good with his communication We were able to park our car on the street directly outside the apartment

The internal toilet cistern kept leaking and the pump or valve had to keep working which was noisy. We finally managed to locate the issue at 12:30 am on our first night. After that we learnt to only flush the toilet when necessary. The people in the apartment above us were also very noisy. We would get some respite when they went out at night but were always woken when they returned between midnight and 2 am. There was only one fork provided which meant we either had to eat one after the other or one of us ate with a knife and spoon . We feel the word luxury is perhaps misused .

Location is off the busy main roads, yet easy walking to center and also Tesco. Building and rooms are modern and clean. Apartment room had all amenities and was neatly taken care of.

We only stayed for one night. Not disappointed with anything.

Would happily book again but some tips to improve things… Very dark side of the building and dark decor made it a bit depressing. No phone signal without signing up to hotel WiFi. Ample hanging space but no drawers or shelves for clothes. Could do with a variety of pillows as all very thick which, although generous, might not suit everyone.

I do notice the prices creeping up, when we first discovered the Ranald it was one of the most reasonable places to stay on Booking.com which isn’t always the case now

Steps from the centre of Oban. Compact and ideal for three although the open plan design of the property restricted freedom for non family members or close friends. Very warm and supportive staff at Ranald Hotel who gave us the keys.

Good choice for a self-catering stay in Oban.

Centrally located and near to the pier seafood shops and four bid supermarkets. The apartment was very clean snd well maintained and all necessary utensils etc were provided. The wi-fi was fast and the smart TV worked well.

The taps in the kitchen need maintenance- it was hard to turn the cold water off and the hot water knob did not function properly. The bed was comfortable but seemed to be on an angle, which felt strange. These were minor problems. Our apartment was on the 3rd floor and there was no lift. The stairs were wide and easy to use with luggage, but there were a lot of them!

Easy and convenient place to stay in Oban.

This was a well-run property. It was easy to find, great location, really nice staff. It's not luxury, but a good value for money and it was perfect for our family of 3 for a night.

Uncomfortable

Location was central which was good.

The bed was two single mattresses pushed together and very uncomfortable. The couch was very uncomfortable. The table had a weird slope (might be a design thing) but unpractical. Shower quite small and requires attention to detail and the seal at the bottom had weird brown colour.

Quiet, great bed and nice apartment. Great location to grocery stores, restaurants and ferries.

The only thing we didn’t like was the oven and stove top. We had to Google the name of the oven to figure out how to use it.

Comfortable overnight stay.

The apartment was clean and comfortable. There was everything we needed. The bedroom was very comfortable and the bathroom very clean and modern.

Unfortunately mostly when we opened the window we could smell cannabis coming from nearby. This is not the fault of the company but we found it unpleasant. Also we hadn’t realised that there wasn’t a lift and we were on the third floor. Possibly our fault for not checking beforehand.
