This cozy and comfortable Hawaiian style redwood home is just a short walk to miles of sandy beach. The house is surrounded by lush, tropical gardens. Two lanais let you enjoy paradise in comfort and privacy. A wonderful place to get away and relax in quiet and comfort.

This charming one bedroom house with its Hawaiian style decor has an open kitchen or if outdoor cooking is preferred, a barbecue is on the lanai.

Activities nearby: Located in Haena on the North Shore, minutes to Ke'e Beach ("end of the road") with a beautiful beach and hiking. Walk to a snorkeling beach, shelling and sunbathing. Golf at the spectacular Princeville courses, shop and dine in Hanalei just 15 minutes away.

This is our second time staying near end of the road, on the North shore of Kauai. It's the most beautiful place in the world; the mountains above Hanalei are breathtaking, the state park down the road is beyond words, the Botanical gardens only 5 minutes away from this rental are fantastic, easy shopping only a few minutes away, gorgeous country roads, rolling Hills and beautiful turquoise Waters - It's literally the perfect place to stay. This house was a perfect little Haven amongst all of this. One bedroom, lots of porch space, a well-equipped kitchen. If I had to give any negative, I would say I wish it had air conditioning, but even without we were ok. The walk to the beach is a short 1.5 block walk, and there's another Beach you can walk to that's probably 5 ish blocks away, which is better for swimming. Very walkable in terms of beach access. The yard also has a mango tree, tangerine tree, avocado tree, and plumeria trees (among others). It's heaven on earth.

Wow, what a beautiful spot and this little house was just perfect for us. We went at a hot time, so air conditioning was missed at times but still worth it. We love the location and the seclusion and would love to return someday.

The home was so cute and comfortable! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. The house is walking distance to some of the best beaches in the world. I would absolutely stay here again. One thing we didn’t realize is that even when booking with VRBO, we still worked with a third party management company. It didn’t hinder our stay at all but I wasn’t expecting another company to reach out to me asking for my payment information, etc. I like the ease of booking through the app and communicating through the app.

We feel blessed to have the beautiful spirits of this house be ours for a few days. When we got in, and it was 4:30 our time, we felt so grateful to be able to go to sleep, and wake up in a familiar place to the swaying palms and roosters. Heaven. Our little beach is just a short walk, and i dream of coming back. House is so well equipped and we had dinner each night on the porch. Absolutely amazing stay!!!

Reviewer Comments: It was pretty much as described...a cottage in the rain forest. North Kauai is beautiful, but be prepared for rain. On a rainy day the cottage is especially dark. It can be quite cool inside on those days, too. Previous guests mentioned the mgmt. company as being unresponsive. We found this to be true, too, after the booking was completed. TV remotes still needed batteries, all the outdoor candles lacked wicks, and our texts went unanswered. Also, as previously mentioned furniture looked tired. Bed, however, was comfortable.

We loved the privacy and the casual setting, the outdoor shower, the beach umbrella and chairs, the covered porch in the rain, and most of all the LOCATION. We walked to the beach every day, and even walked to Haena State Park to hike to Hanakapiai. It was awesome. That said, there are some big things to note. The place does not have a hotel room safe, which it needs and we requested to no avail. The old louvered windows (very necessary for ventilation) just don’t lock securely. We took our valuables (iPhones, wallets, iPad etc) to the beach every day, which meant we could not snorkel together. It was a major bummer. From personal experience (at a different rental on the same street) we no longer leave valuables unlocked or unattended. The tv remote failed a few days in to the trip, and it was never really addressed. We only missed tv a little for news. But it might have mattered to someone else a bit more. The house also needs just a deep cleaning/detailing. The bedroom drapes need cleaning, or better yet replacing. The bed and pillows need a refresh too. And it does not have a comfortable living room. There are only chairs with an ottoman and a chaise. Neither are comfortable, and you can’t cuddle up with your companion. And the upholstery is very tired. We covered it with the extra cotton blankets in the armoire, after we first washed them. It wouldn’t take much to upgrade the house just a little bit. It needs it. It deserves it. It’s a special, special place. We had fun imagining how great the simple improvements would make it.. My husband and I have rented many, many homes in Haena over the last 15 years. I started out as a backpacker to Kalalau and camper at Haena Beach Park in 1985. It’s the most magical place on earth, and we leave our hearts there every time we have to depart. Mahalo to the owner of this home for letting us enjoy Haena.

We loved the covered porch area in the rain and as a shaded escape. The entire cottage feels like it’s out of a fairytale and that you’ve stepped back in time. Stayed here for a week in October. We had an amazing time and loved the home. Perfect location to the beach where we had wonderful weather and a day or two of epic rainfall! The house was great. The only thing that wasn't amazing was the kitchen. It was a bit grimy and could use some updating. But it had everything we needed. The entire house was great and cozy.

Hale Pau Kai is a wonderful home in an unbeatable location. The good people at Kauai Vacation Rentals could not have been more responsive and helpful - absolutely fantastic service. The home's gardens are lush and gorgeous and a joy to explore. Just a few things would have made the experience perfect - it'd be great to have a juicer for all the fabulous citrus at the markets and a rice cooker for the kitchen. And be careful about using the outdoor shower - we were surprised several times by a family with small children that walked through Hale Pua Kai's gardens from a house behind it, saying there was an 'easement' through the property they use to get to the beach. All in all, a fantastic place that we would return to in a heartbeat. We hope future renters treat the home gently so the owners continue to make it available for visitors to paradise like us.
