Charlie and Lydia’s house is magnificent and their hosting efforts sublime - the photos do not do it justice. First, the house is a timberframe with a private back yard and huge lanai perfect for relaxation. The house is wood, marble and stone with gorgeous touches … a huge comfy couch in front of a big screen TV/Wifi, every coffee lovers dream with countless options for coffee making, first rate mattresses and linens, and bathrooms that are a pleasure to shower in! Even more, however, was that when we discovered a really minor issue — the beach umbrella was broken — later that day, their property manager (who we never met), Lana, left a perfect replacement on our doorstep. Thank you, Lydia, for sharing you little slice of heaven with us. There is nothing that I can suggest — the house, its location and the touches arranged by Lana are just perfect.

The property and location are perfect. We wanted a quiet, peaceful vacation and that is exactly what we got. The beauty of this property is difficult to put into words. We spent so much time on the lanai just in awe of the beauty. We walked to the beach each day and it was so nice to have chairs, umbrellas, and anything else you can think of! I can only hope we have the opportunity to return one day. I never wanted to leave!

The host was especially generous and cooperative with our plans. He went out of his way to work with me and VRBO to get the booking done after technical issues created some barriers. The home is a very nice and quaint set up with everything you need, especially AC. There were plenty of towels! We didn’t walk to the beach nearby because most of our plans were on other parts of the island. The location is fine but for us, it wasn’t ideal since our plans took us back to other parts of the island. So my one recommendation is to be aware of the travel time if you plan on island wide activities. One lovely benefit of the location is how dark it is and the wondrous amount of stars you can see with the naked eye. Amazing! The only disappointment was not seeing any of the animals that are typically on the neighboring property. Overall, wonderful host and home that I would highly recommend.

This was our second stay at the home. The environment is serene and peaceful inside and out. The backyard view is the big prize. Trust the photos. If anything they don’t fully capture the magic. The host is amazing. Very responsive and helpful. The kitchen is well equipped. Beds comfortable. Love the house design and soothing color scheme. Enjoyed walking to Tunnels Beach. Also enjoyed the Na Pali Coast hike, the sunset at Ke’e Beach, and exploring Secret Beach. The north side in general is visually stunning. Highly recommend.

The property is even prettier in person than in the photos. Very quiet and very clean as well. The house had everything we needed for our stay. We road the bikes provided to the park and followed the walking map to Tunnels Beach. The outdoor shower and bath were great too. Thank you for the pleasure of staying at your beautiful property.

This place was absolute paradise!! It was clean, well stocked, and the back lanai was amazing! We saw the cows and donkeys daily, enjoyed both the sun and rain while relaxing. The deck bathtub is an amazing feature! We will be back for sure! The towns of Wainiha and Hanalei Bay are easy to get to, this location is perfection!

This is our third year staying at this property. The traditional, elegant design and well appointed amenities truly make it a home away from home. The location is ideal for all north shore adventures. However, we find the real allure to be the tranquil, quiet and reflective escape this one of a kind space provides.
Communication with the owners was very easy. A thorough house “manual” is also provided for analog folks like myself.
Thank you for having us, and thank you Kauai- see you next year.

This was our second time staying at this house. We are already planning our 3rd trip there. The house is very clean, beds are comfortable, fluffy towels, and a well stocked kitchen. They also have everything you would need for the beach. But the best part is the outside views! We almost never wanted to leave the lanai. The views are dreamlike. From rainbows to waterfalls, and horses walking around the back area it’s spectacular. The outdoor shower and bath are a major perk! We can’t wait to go back.

It was comfortable, unique and beautiful scenic view of the mountain with waterfall. Perfect for 2 couples Two private bedrooms with private bathrooms. It was unique taking a warm shower outside or tub bath right on the deck. As an animal lover I enjoyed when the donkeys (I named them Junior and Momma) would stop by the fence for carrot snacks. Various little geckos jumping around the fence and random chickens strolling by. The walk to the beach was easy. The quickest one was turning R and walking down to the other side of the camp. The only bothersome thing was a neighbor that seemed to run his lawnmower 5 min., stop, then do it again. That happened several times, but otherwise a peaceful location.

Such a cute tranquil little spot. It’s what I envisioned when I thought of staying in a traditional Hawaiian home. Green mountains out the back door, farm animals roaming on the other side of the fence, lush gardens all around, cozy lanai. Walking distance to Tunnels was a perk. Loved it all!

From the moment we stepped in the door we felt a zen like peace. Stunning home and view. The photos and descriptions sounded almost too good to be true but if anything the home surpassed expectations. In addition to the overall engaging vibe the home had all the features of a luxury experience. Comfortable beds and furnishings, great bathrooms, well stocked kitchen, ceiling fans so effective we didn’t need the ac, quality bedding, towels, and equipment. We didn’t want to leave. Highly recommend.

We visit Kauai about every 4 months, but this was our first time staying at Charles and Lydia’s home. It was by far our favorite stay. Charles and Lydia were so very helpful and welcoming. The backyard is our new favorite spot on the island, we loved all of the horse, donkey, and cow visitors. The home makes you feel like you have the island all to yourself.

When you book a place to stay, you hope the reviews and the description give you a good idea of what to expect. I've booked places in the past that say they have something but when you arrive it is broken or they say they are "walking distance" to an attraction, but walking distance is over a mile. HOWEVER - - In this case, you get what they say - - the home is absolutely beautiful, perfectly clean, and very thoughtfully stocked. It is .25 mile walking distance to tunnels and they have all the beach gear (boogie boards, snorkel gear, surf boards) in very good condition with a beach wagon to walk to beach. The wagon was so nice to have! The kitchen was the most well stocked kitchen I've seen in any rental I've had. I really was impressed with how clean the home was - - spotless. The backyard backs up against a conservation land and we had cows, horses, etc come to visit daily. The outdoor tub - - I loved it! The hiking poles saved me on the kalalau trail. Thank you Charlie and Lydia for a perfect stay!

Beautiful home, dreamy location. I could have been happy spending all my time at the house. Furnished with warmth and love and decorated to honor Kauai and Hawaiian culture. The live edge wooden table, pebble shower floors, quality cotton linens, hammered copper sinks, iron palm tree screen door. Gorgeous! Comfortable beds, plenty of fans and ac, and blackout curtains made for a good night’s sleep. The kitchen was clean and well stocked. We enjoyed many family meals here. Wonderful location. The lanai is a destination all its own, with a yard of exotic plants and a view of majestic green mountains. Outdoor furnishings to relax and unwind, and plenty of quiet and privacy. Great location for nature and adventure as well. We were able to walk to tunnels beach and ha’ena beach park. The house comes with loads of beach gear and a beach wagon. We rode the complimentary bikes into the state park one day to snorkel, and shuttled in to hike another day. Things felt simpler here and we loved it. Thank you for a memorable stay!

Our stay at the traditional Hawaiian cottage in Haena was ultimately the highlight of our vacation. I will admit I was nervous ahead of our stay that the pictures were phony or exaggerated but upon our arrival we were greeted with lush tropical foliage lining the drive and a backyard view that left us speechless. We only saw the other tenant (of the front property) once in passing. A very quiet and private location.
The inside space is perfect for a family. We were able to spread out when needed. Kitchen, dishes, bedrooms, baths and linens were all clean and orderly. Stocked with 4 rolls of TP for a family of 4 so we did need to replenish but had trouble locating a package of TP at the local market (just a heads up). We spent more time at the home than anticipated.
Tunnels Beach is only a 5-minute stroll down the road and the house is equipped with all the gear you need. The location of this home is so perfect, we wanted to keep it a secret. Easy to get to Haena SP (need reservations), and a 15-minute breathtaking drive to/from Hanalei for restaurants, shopping, snorkeling/Na Pali tour.
The window AC units have some gaps, allowing gnats and flying ants in when the lights were on at night. Not a big deal-you are in the tropics! Thankfully, plenty of geckos on the property did a fantastic job keeping the bugs at bay!
The morning of our departure we were blessed with a rainbow and ALL of the backyard animals that roam freely. It was a grand send off.

This place is quite possibly perfect. The lanai with the daily visit from the farm animals, the nightly bath in the outdoor tub, the outdoor shower after waking to the best beach on the island, and the full kitchen to cook in, not to mention everything you need for the beach and a big hike. All I can say is thank you. Our second stay, we will be back. Hosts are incredible all around.
