About this house rental

Phoenix Nest, our romantic and spectacular oceanfront vacation home, is nestled on two glorious acres of forest right on the ocean.

The 2500 square foot, newly remodeled home is bright and airy and includes a 44-foot living room with windows throughout overlooking the ocean. The two master bedroom suites also have unsurpassed, sweeping views of the ocean. The house has great privacy. You can hear the waves crash and see the osprey and gulls fly by as the low tide unveils the rocks and sandy beach. Watch gorgeous sunsets from the deck or hot tub.

From the hot tub, enjoy watching sea lions surfing or resting on the rocks on the Havens Neck peninsula. We often see gray and humpback whales and recently blue and killer whales spouting and occasionally breaching out of the ocean.

The bluff is like a garden, covered with plants and natural wildflowers. Known as the 'banana belt,' nearby rivers provide a more fog-free and temperate climate than other coastal areas.

Unparalleled Beauty: Dear Pat,
We were greeted by deer and the gentle barking 'hellos' of the sea lions. The house is so comfortable--more space than we imagined and the light so wonderful.. The view rates in our top three--following the Grand Canyon, Positano, Italy and tied with Villa Cinciano in Tuscany. As we say farewell to the deer and sea lions, we'll promise to return and will always remember the beauty by day and the peaceful blanket of the Milky Way by night.

We have stayed at a number of beach houses in the Gualala area and we gave The Phoenix Nest a 4.5 out of 5.Clean, great views, nice deck and hot tub. The weather was a 5 out 5, clear and warm. The first night in the hot tub the stars were amazing as was the Milky Way. The electric car charger refused to work after the first charging session. We communicated this to Patricia and she immediately responded with other charging locations in the area.

Maryellen and George from hot Texas to Heavenly Gualala. We spent 10 days of our 3 week escape from the Texas heat in this magnificent house. The pictures do not do it justice. The kitchen is a dream. Everything works as it should with excellent cookware, abundant supplies for cooking and, rarest of the rare, sharp knives. The furnishings in the house are tasteful and comfortable. There is neither too little nor too much furniture but just the right amount and the beds are a dream. The house just flows. The views are spectacular and, very important for us, the house is very private,even secluded. Pat and Sid are wonderful hosts.They were always there to answer any question we had. Maryellen rates Phoenix Nest the best place we have ever stayed. I have learned that wives are always right. Thank you Pat and Sid for sharing your home with us.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at this picturesque home the week of 6/21. The pictures from the listing helped make our decision but the experience of being there far exceeded all expectations. It was such a relaxing place to enjoy the sights and sounds of the California northern coast. We were greeted by the resident deer and the barking of sea lions. The local towns are low key which was just right for how we like to spend our vacations. Pat's cottage was perfect for a quiet long weekend for me & my husband to celebrate our anniversary. The house is full of interesting art and books, and clearly well-loved. You don't need to leave the house to get amazing ocean views in all directions, but if you do want to get out and about there are many options for hiking in the area.

This gem is simply the best vacation home on the entire California coast. It has everything. There are sweeping panoramic views, from almost every room in the house. The home is spacious, tasteful and completely comfortable. There’s great privacy, and an infinite number of things to do both in and around the house. just reading beside the roaring fireplace is pure heaven. Pat, the manager, is always eager to help and make her guests feel comfortable and taken care of. Spending time watching the abundance of sea mammals and bird life is wondrous. From the moment we stepped into the Phoenix Next we were greeted with the most amazing view on the California coast - a little while later the seals began to bark and the worries of the world melted away.Pat being a terrific and helpful host, steered us away from the local flooding along our route from SJC - not to worry we got there as the clouds lifted and the sun came out.It doesn't happen every night, but we were treated to what a real dark sky looks like, with the Milky Way, Mars, Jupiter and Venus blinding in the sky.Sadly our time was over too soon, so we'll have to come back again. We had a lovely stay for almost a week at Phoenix Nest, over the Christmas holiday. The house had just about everything we could need including climate control, complete kitchen with equipment, hot tub, super comfortable furniture, and lots of helpful instructions. The ability to explore an exclusive nature preserve is also noteworthy. Would stay here again.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this Mendocino home! The views were breathtaking, and the layout of the house was both spacious and inviting. The fully stocked kitchen made preparing our Thanksgiving meal a breeze, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere was perfect for our much-needed downtime. We had the good fortune to stay at the Phoenix Nest four years ago, and were thrilled to return for a longer stay this fall. The location of this beautiful and very comfortable home is just perfect, situated on a bluff on the rugged Mendocino County coast with spectacular views of the ocean, while still being easy to access from Highway 1 and close to nearby towns, services, and park lands. We're already talking about when we'll have a chance to return again.

This is an absolutely gorgeous home with views that are awe inspiring. The location demands that you relax and let your troubles and life's demands slide away. I actually enjoyed not having cell phone service, it allowed me to disconnect from my phone which I have become much too attached to. We explored the surrounding areas and had some incredible hikes and adventures. Pat was incredibly responsive when questions arose.

My husband and I stayed at this lovely vacation rental last week for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. The home was easy to find and had great parking in front of the house. We had a lot of privacy there which was very nice. The views from the house are spectacular (although we did not see any whales, but that's okay). We loved the location as it was only a 2-minute drive to Anchor Bay's downtown, 6 minutes to Gualala, and about 15 minutes to Point Arena. There's so much beauty to see there. We went on several walks/short hikes/beach walks during our stay. There was a problem when we arrived and Patricia was responsive to my concern and kept up communication with us during our stay. I enjoyed my communication with Patricia.

The house was immaculate, spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking meals. A pleasant surprise was the spice drawer. I am used to vrbo properties usually only having salt and pepper. The views from every room were stunning. We enjoyed listening to the sea lions and watching the fog roll in and out. This house has absolutely AMAZING views! Two walls of just big windows in the living area. Huge window in the dining area with a little desk if you want to be on the computer and still look at the sea lions and the Pacific Ocean! We saw and listened to sea lions everyday! I have stayed in many VRBO houses before and this house is definitely the most well stocked house that I have ever rented. The kitchen has EVERYTHING. Beautiful and plentiful dishes, pots and pans. A toaster and toaster oven. Very nice coffee maker. Beautiful clean white towels in the bathrooms. Extra towels of every type in the washer and dryer area. The owners definitely go out of their way to make sure that their guests have everything they need and are comfortable. Very nice hiking at the Gualala Art Center which is just a short drive from the house. We loved the restaurant in town called VUE. It had views of the ocean at every table. AND last but not least I loved the weather. It was so nice to get away from the heat and humidity!

Our stay at Phoenix Nest greatly exceeded our expectations. The photos in the listing are good, however they did not prepare us for the jaw-dropping views from the property, they are truly spectacular. The home is very spacious and is larger in person than it appears in the photos. It is comfortable and has been thoughtfully furnished and decorated. This trip was very important to us as it was our first trip out of the city in four years and was also to celebrate my partner’s 60th birthday and Phoenix Nest proved to be the perfect destination. We loved it so much we didn’t feel the need to leave it, we preferred to spend our days relaxing on the patio and using the BBQ for our meals. We are already planning our next visit!

Our stay was heaven on earth. The views were phenomenal. We spent many hours watching the seals across the bay and the flocks of birds swooping past the house and listening to the waves. The first sentence I said upon arriving at Phoenix Nest and briefly inspecting it was: "If we had the means I would buy this or something like this and leave East Bay for good." We take short vacations on Mendocino Coast a couple of times a year for a long time now, but we *never* have seen anything more beautifully situated or with better views. The house itself is large and pleasant, well furnished and well stocked. WiFi is reliable and fast (cell is neither), so I highly recommend using Phoenix Nest for "working vacations": with the remote work being now the default mode of Silicon Valley I did have to tell my boss that I'll be away for 4 days, and neither have you...

This is an amazing property! The views exceeded the photos…..absolutely spectacular. This is a comfortable and well maintained home. Probably the most relaxing vacation we’ve had. The kitchen is well equipped. We didn’t feel any need to eat out. We enjoyed the quiet and the stars with a glass of wine in the hot tub every night. Easy access to Gualala for groceries. The location is terrific, with a breathtaking view. There are a lot of activities nearby. The towns are small, quaint and very relaxing and the locals were so friendly. What more can be said that other reviewers haven’t already raved about? Simply put, this place is a heaven like no other! For me, had been at least 4 years without a true vacation and staying here for a few nights was something we chose to start off a longer trip in hopes of decompressing first. Within an hour of arriving, we saw whales and seals and sat on the comfy couch just staring out the window at the closest, most unobstructed, and “personal” view of the Pacific Coast we could never have imagined possible. I was instantly melted into the relaxation I had been craving for years! We got lucky to experience what seemed like every type of weather to be able to experience the changes it brought to the views. When it was cold and rainy, we were snug and warm in the house! The kitchen was perfectly equipped to be able to make dinner “at home” which only added to our relaxation. One day, we made it to the north beach of the private land preserve and were stunned to be able to witness so much unspoiled nature-in-action right before our eyes. The house was very clean and well kept and had one of everything that you’ll need for some decompression time of your own. You will never want to leave!

We had a terrific anniversary at this home and everything was perfect and the views were amazing. The home is very close to numerous beaches with access to a private beach as well. A outdoor deck, perfect for reading (the owners have a wonderful collection of books) and lounging. And a very thoughtful host. The hot tub was great and the beds were very comfortable. I would say "amazing" best describes our stay.
