The Lady Maxwell Room at Buittle Castle

Absolutely stunning place to stay From the butterfly's in the castles gardens To the wonderful view And the quietness off the whole Just we could have stayed another night Next time.

The hotel was lovely , we were greeted on arrival and this made us feel very welcome. The room exceeded our expectations and was a really lovely room and location. Very romantic hotel.

The room was amazing it felt like Queen Mary was about to appear. The owner was very welcoming. The breakfast was very tasty and the room it was served in was something only kings and queens experience. Very close to Castle Douglas which has lots of lovely restaurants and bars.

No outside lighting (but we were told this was a temporary problem) and the chairs outside the room! Well there is rustic and then there is unusable and these were definitely the latter! I didnt feel comfortable using the hot tub because there were bushes hanging over it but thats just me as Im so allergic to bugs!

It is truly magical. Set in rolling hills sits this ancient site, now a comfortable castle, the guest areas having been carefully and sensitively restored by the hosts. Our room was beautifully designed and curated. We slept so well in a comfortable four poster bed after a great shower and a fantastic three course meal (including one entire vegan menu) in the equally magical dining room, professionally cooked and served by one of the owners who explained the history of the castle when we asked. He was a wonderful host. Breakfast was perfect too. And the hotel is genuinely dog friendly too. We had booked a castle, but not expected to be so bowled over by everything about this hotel - we loved the ethos, the building, the gardens, the comfort and the care taken over every aspect of our stay.
