Heron Lodge is set in a lovely peaceful, rural location on edge of Mabie Forest a tranquil and peaceful location surrounded by beautiful countryside, with breathtaking views of surrounding countryside and Mabie Forest.
This luxury lodge is privately owned and can accommodate 4 guests in comfort with all modern amenities for a great self catering holiday break.Heron Lodge is very well equipped and pride ourselves in presenting this property in immaculate order to enable our guests to have a very comfortable stay all year round.Set in the former grounds of Cairnyard House on an uncommercialised site. Located 5 miles from Dumfries town on the A711 (Dumfries and Dalbeattie Road) and 1 mile before Beeswing village.
Take a relaxing weeks break either to take in the surrounding countryside and area or get out and about to explore historical places of interest or take time out to persue your hobbies or interests like fishing, birdwatching, golf, walking,mountain bike 7Stanes area or horse riding .

Bedroom 1 - double bedroom (10'X10') with lovely pine double bed, and pine wardrobe and cabinates. USB charging socket in main bedroom.
Bedroom 2- 2 Singles in this room(10'X10') with two pine single beds, new mattresses with pine wardrobe and drawer cabinets. Ample storage.
Brand New Modern Bathroom (7'X6') with Large Walk In Shower sink and toilet electric panel heater and fan heater. Towel rail, bathroom cabinet.
Porch area (6'X5') with cloak area.
Open plan Living room (16'X10') with comfy sofa and 2 arm chairs, Flat screened wall mounted T.V. -DVD and CD/Radio- Electric Fire.
Dining Kitchen (11'X8') with modern electrical appliances, Oven,Hob, large family Fridge/Freezer, Dishwasher,Washer/Dryer and self contained with all crockery, cutlery, glassware, cooking utensils, and pans. Toaster, Kettle, Microwave etc. Dining table with 4 chairs. New kitchen installation and appliances for 2026 holiday season.
The Living area has large patio doors opening out over lovely countryside views with verandah decking complete with patio furniture and Gas BBQ for al-fresco dining. The Lodge is fully insulated and Double Glazed, with Full Electric Heating throughout, ensuring comfort for early/late season holidays or winter breaks.
Ideal base for couples and families alike for that relaxing weeks holiday lots of local places of interest like Robert Burns heritage trail, Caerlaverock Castle and bird sanctuary,Shambelli Museum of Costume and Camera Obscure, Drumlanrig Castle and forest trails also a short drive to the coast and lovely forest walks.
Local Loch Arthur organic farm shop speciality award winners for Cheese. Mabie forest great for children with adventure playground, forest trail walks and one especially for dogs. Mabie House for a lovely lunch or evening meal, bookings recommended.
Towerwood Golfing Range 2 miles away (floodlit). Some 30 Golf Courses around the area -Dumfries town some 5 miles away. Glasgow and Edinburgh 80 miles away. Carlisle and Lakes 40 miles away. Gretna Green and Outlet Shopping Village 35 minutes drive away.

The lodge was very clean and well proportioned with and the kitchen had all of the equipment and utensils that we required. As the weather was not favourable, the outside areas were not used. The decking and furnitture looked good but by the time we returned from our exploration it was getting dark and getting indoors was more important.

Second time we have stayed here, we love the lodge so much, super cosy with everything you need, the surroundings and views are stunning, with loads to do around the area, it's just the perfect stay for us

our holiday was just perfect - had such a relaxing time and the lodge was brilliant - it was clean and had everything we needed for a great break - the weather - as well as the lodge was ideal - we will definitely be back - thank you Louise for a perfect setting - as I said - was just what we needed for our break - my family already know what a beautiful relaxing setting the lodge was - kind regards - Kathleen/Michael

Hmm, where to start with this review. There are two important bits of information that should have described in bold and on the important information category. This information was in the 83 amenities list and under notes. One ,we need to provide anywhere from 1 or more for heating. We found out about this after making the second payment and the PDF we received days prior to our arrival. Later i saw its in the notes under the 83 amenities category, it was buried in the listing. There is a section with important information that doesn't say a thing about this. Second, we had to bring our own towels, not provided at all. Again, under the notes part of the 83 amenities section. Not in the important information section at the front of the listing. I understand pets are allowed but there was dog hair all over the place, its as no ine Hoovered at all. The beds were hard as a rock,like sleeping on the floor. The wifi could of been better, it was hard to stream anything at the end of our day. Most places to visit closed at 5pm so we were back having dinner and unwinding. But with kids it was rough with WiFi being spotty. Oh the hot water needs to be fixed. We found out the first night and second night that four people can't take showers in one single night. I ended up taking a Navy Shower both nights. It was mighty cold, so we staggered the showers two at night and two in the morning, which cut in to our time to get out and see the sights. As I said needs some work for 5 stars.
