Áurea Catedral by Eurostars Hotel Company

The hotel is located right behind the Granada Cathedral, with windows overlooking it. The Alhambra is relatively far away; it’s not so much the distance as the constant uphill climb that’s tiring, especially in the 40 degrees it was during our visit. The hotel has a fairly minimalist design with a simple lobby. The rooms aren’t large, but they’re comfortable and clean, and the bathroom is well-equipped and clean. The air conditioning works flawlessly. The beds are comfortable, though I’ve slept on better-quality mattresses before. Parking is available at the hotel; an elevator takes the car down to the parking level, which is a very ingenious solution in a place where the narrow layout of the old buildings would make driving down almost impossible. In theory, driving into the area is restricted to a closed zone, but when we told the gatekeeper which hotel we were going to, they let us in without any fuss. The street leading there is narrow but passable—definitely better than, say, in Toledo. The staff handled check-in quickly, and we were off to explore the city. There are numerous restaurants near the hotel, so we didn’t try the hotel restaurant. The breakfast fully meets the four-star standard; everything you’d expect is available. Overall, we stayed at a hotel with an excellent location that met all expectations of a four-star hotel in every respect, took care of our parking, but wasn’t outstanding in any particular area. It definitely falls into the “highly recommended” category.

The Aurea hotel was in a prime location in Granada right next to the Cathedral. Every restaurant in the center is only a few blocks away. Access to the Alhambra is a 30 minute walk. The architecture in the lobby is interesting, and the hotel overall has a modern clean look. The rooms are nicely built, which is perfect for the smaller spaces that they occupy. The staff was also very friendly and always had a smile for us whenever we passed by their desk. The breakfast buffet was also good and fine before a long day of exploring the Alhambra, though for €20 per person which is not included with the room, it is mostly there for convenience.

Great location, very good value for money, friendly staff.

Parking was safe in the garage with lift and ca. 25 euro per 24 hours. But not too bad for a city centre location.
