Ca Giovanni - charmant and exclusive apartment

Amazing little apartment in the heart of Venice. Super easy to find with self check-in, the instructions from the owner were really easy to follow. We loved having our own little apartment with a kitchenette and washing machine. Close to everything. Couldn't fault it.

We had a pleasant stay overall. The apartment was spacious, in a good location and conveniently close to a supermarket for essentials. The washing facilities were also very useful. Our host was communicative and available throughout our stay, and we really appreciated being able to check in early and check out later than scheduled. Overall, the apartment has many positives, particularly its size, location, facilities and the host’s communication. With some improvements to cleanliness, maintenance, the accuracy of the listed location and the approach to guest feedback, it could be a much better experience.

After collecting the keys, we found that the location shown on both Google Maps and Booking.com differed from the actual location of the apartment, which was quite misleading and made finding the property more difficult than expected, and with luggage. Unfortunately, the apartment was not as clean as we expected, with an unpleasant odour in the bedroom and bathroom on arrival, a shower that needed more cleaning, and dust and staining on the bed cover. The air conditioning worked well, but the units themselves appeared quite dusty and had some areas that looked like mould. We were also disturbed during our stay by construction, fire extinguisher changes and water meter maintenance. While we understand some of this may have been outside the host’s control, it was inconvenient while we were trying to enjoy our time sightseeing. We were disappointed to be asked at check-out to leave a 10-star review or not leave a review at all. We believe guests should be able to leave honest and balanced feedback. We were also asked for a tip for the cleaners, which felt uncomfortable given the cleanliness issues we experienced.

The service was prompt and warm, and they offered us a complimentary early check-in.

Picking up and returning the keys was very inconvenient – we had to drag our luggage to another location to pick up and drop off the keys, and we had to go through four doors just to enter the room. The check-in time is 4:00 PM and check-out time is 10:00 AM, which is very unfriendly. The actual accommodation location was different from the map pin shown on the booking page – it was farther from the river. The room had a strong musty smell, and there was loud noise from the bathroom, which disturbed our sleep at night.

The location was good for walking to various sites and getting to the airport.

It required 4 keys to get into the apartment. Two of the doors only operated with a key which is very unsafe in case of an emergency. We could leave one key in the door to our apartment, but there was a second door that could only be opened with a key and we didn't feel safe locking it. The photos of the apartment are not accurate - some of the pictures appear to be older or taking of some other place. They should be updated or eliminated.
