Great location.
No on site parking, but there's plenty on the quiet streets surrounding. Don't let this put you off.

Excellent location, very supportive people

Very friendly staff, who went out of their way to help. The apartment we booked was large and cut in a way that our kids loved (lots of rooms on different levels), and the location couldn't have been better.
We went during a heatwave — about 35°C — and couldn’t use two of the rooms because they were under the roof and even hotter inside than outside. The bathrooms were tiny, the drains were clogged, and it was a struggle just to brush our teeth. Everything felt quite old and worn.
To be fair, we had to book last minute for five people, and this was the only hotel with availability in the area. We don’t usually stay in two-star hotels, so perhaps I’m a bit spoiled. That said, we did get our money’s worth overall, and the kids (5 years old) absolutely loved it.

The room we had was very clean and looked quite new. The beddings was super comfortable. The location is simply fantastic. Right in the town centre. Check in and check was a breeze.
The toilet paper comes by leaf, like in the 1970's. Otherwise I would suggest, for a quiet night, not to be on the plaza side which can be quite noisy. Also the beffroi or a church rings every 15 minutes and since the rooms are not equipped with A/C you need to open the window for a cooler night...ouch!

The bells would ring on the half hour and hour all night.

The room was clean and comfortable, bed was on the hard side for me. Everything was in the room you needed.
Could be noisy early evening, but that might have been due to up coming holiday.

very nice location, although rooms are dated, they are kept very well and clean
the toilet in our room seemed to be leaking and thus it smelled, it was not so sound proof

Great value, good sized rooms and large bathrooms. Large lift, very well located and nice staff. Breakfast was good.
Bed was a bit hard. It’s pretty dated but given the price it’s not a big issue.

This is a clean, friendly and basic but comfortable hotel smack bang in the centre of a lovely town.
Dog friendly too.
The pull across door to the bathroom had had better days.

One of the best location for a visit to Fougères as everything is within walking distance. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast. Comfortable bed. Free public parking nearby... but not so easy to reach (no sign). Availability of room for 3 persons.
The rooms are rather small while bathrooms are quite basic but OK. Departing on Saturdays can be tricky as the street is completely blocked by an open air market.

Super location right in the centre of the town. Very helpful man on reception. Free secure parking. Spotlessly clean. Extremely reasonable price.
The bed was a little uncomfortable for me.

The breakfast was a continental breakfast and was very filling with delicious croissants, juice, cereal, yoghurt and coffee. The hotel's location was excellent in the middle of town and close to amenities, cafes, etc. The owner/managers were very friendly and helpful.

Location!!
A short stroll and you’re at the Château de Fougères. Beautiful town.
Hotel has normal rooms but it was clean which it always a bonus.
It is pet friendly and our dog stayed for free with us.
We only stopped overnight on our way through France so it was a perfect location and a great hotel for a stopover.
Only a small thing but the free Internet didn’t connect as I think the room was too far from the connection.

The Balzac is a wonderful, nostalgic hotel that might come out of a film by Francis Truffaut, no frills but great atmosphere and cheerful host evoking the aesthetic of the old town around it. It's marvelous to step out the door and see the town's finest buildings and monuments on the same street a few feet away. At night the town bells toll every hour a block away, for us a magic evocation of being in old Europe. Breakfast was in the lobby with window seat looking out at the cobbled street. It was the first night of our trip and a magical one.

room was really small

The church bell rings every 15 minutes, even during the night. Breakfast options very limited, no cheese, ham etc. Nearby restaurants all closed in the evening.

The hotel is in the very center of the town, close to everything. Very nice welcome at the reception, we've got a big list of things to see and restaurants where we could eat, very helpful. The hotel doesn't have parking but they've recommended a free and secured parking nearby.
Our room was incredibly small, had no space to place our luggage. The bathroom should have a proper door instead of the plastic folding door they currently have. Also, I know it is not the hotel's fault, but I'll mention it for those that are easily awakened by noise: the bells in the tower are ringing every hour, all night long. When we stayed there, the weather was quite warm, so we slept with the windows opened; it was quite difficult to sleep.
