The cottage was as it appears in the pictures and a good location to explore the area however I can't rate it higher as on our first night, we found there were bed bugs. We saw one and my partner woke up full of bites. We had to move to alternative accommodation and spent the first day of our holiday washing our clothes. We lost £300 and had the start of our holiday ruined.
When I reported it, the owner initially didn't respond. I was finally told that the house keeper had inspected and couldn't find any evidence. It must have been a midge. I would have expected a cautionary visit from an exterminator and a part refund but instead I was offered a complimentary stay in the future (when presumably the bed bugs have officially taken over).
Good luck to anyone staying. Bed bugs are an expensive annoyance to get rid of once they come home with you which they will.

The location is a quiet nice village
Dirty showers, mould in bedroom, rusty pegs, loose toilet base, unkempt garden back and front, a bad fumey smell throughout cottage as soon as heating was on, having to ask owner to put the heating on couldn't do it yourself, dirty microwave and oven, spider webs everywhere, dirty plug holes, dirty bed linen, loose electrical light socket . I complained but heard nothing back

The location, the front garden, the window seats!
A few minor issues (faulty lamps, outdated information sheets etc.) need addressing but nothing that spoilt our enjoyment.

Building of the old cottage lovely, and quiet peaceful village of Askham ,picturesque, nearby lovely walks and nice food in The Punchbowl.
Disgusting stained bedding, was bad. Plug not working, only one side of toaster working, loose toilet seat, chipped mug, one lipstick, inside washing machine rubber, filthy, shower mats stained, lights and lamp not working, fridge, water in bottom tray, bits of broken ice about. Tap upstairs sink, twin room not working either. We paid well over 800.00 a week for vile bedding we slept on, so unfair. Overwhelming smell of oil in house. Fridge too, rubber on door inside, grubby and black bits, in corners of the trays, had to clean before use, grill pan crumbs in it too.

The location was perfect for a wedding at Askham Hall. The village itself is lovely with 2 pubs and great little shop. There were wonderful walks.
The lounge was lovely and comfortable. Kitchen was a good size and had everything you need. The downstairs bathroom was modern and clean and the shower good. Plenty of hot water.
The main bed was so uncomfortable! The mattress was an old style sprung with mattress topper, so every time one of us moved the whole thing moved. I went to sleep in one of the single beds which was also uncomfortable but at least we weren’t waking each other up each time we moved. Sleeping separately for our 4 night stay was not ideal.
The house smelt of paint (with a kind of creosote smell) which on arrival was really strong throughout. It smelt quite toxic. It lessened as days went by but still smelt. I think the house had been newly painted as it did look nice and clean and white.
Heating is controlled remotely by the owner which was also not ideal as there were a couple of evenings and early mornings when we would have liked to warm the house a little but couldn’t without contacting the owner.

Quaint, had everything we required for a 4 night stay. Nice that the host had left a little gift.
First impressions was very cold on entry, would have been nice if it had been heated somewhat before hand, given we had stated time of arrival.

Perfect location in beautiful village. Cottage was comfortable, warm (mostly) and what you would hope for in an old, stone building.
Oven could have been cleaner

Very neat and well-equipped cottage in a beautiful location. Very close to local shop and amenities. The countryside is stunning and right on the doorstep. Local people very friendly. Lots to do and see.
Low beams - affected me, I had to stoop everywhere - but my wife loved them as she is shorter and had the last laugh.

Everything was perfect. The cottage was spacious but cosy. Well equipped and had everything we needed. Bedrooms clean and comfy. Well located for the north lakes but the village was also lovely. Would definitely stay again.

this is a very old property and very quirky but would of thought it would of heated up a bit quicker than 20 hours don’t think anyone has stayed here for a while as it was absolutely freezing 🥶
the only thing I can say is I didn’t like anything this was a Christmas present for my husband and daughter and partner and I have never been so saddened with spending money on something where my daughter wouldn’t even stay 🥲

Charming cottage in lovely village.Well located for shopping in Penrith and proximity to Central Lakes. Kitchen facilities ,housekeeping/cleanliness is excellent, in fact the whole cottage is well-kept and cosy.Free bottle of wine was a lovely surprise!
No hot water from any sink taps and couldn't seem to be able to phone/txt the owner to sort this.We still managed by boiling kettle for washing pots.Showers were fine though.Smoke alarm at bottom of stairs didn't respond on testing.

The cottage is lovely - quirky and really well equipped. It's a bonus to have an en suite in a small property, and there are lots of nooks and crannies for storage. Gorgeous location and easy to get to.
There was no washing powder or softener, but the village shop is really well stocked and is just across the road. Ceilings are very low, as is to be expected in this kind of house, but tall people might struggle!

Wifi great. Loved the old cottage, there must be so much history in that place, I read its a late 17th century property. Quite village, nice walks, pub close by with lovely food and beer garden.

Very well equipped, comfortable (and quirky) old property in superb location. Excellent communication with owners offered reassurance and guidance.

I loved all of it! Especially the cute little window seats. The house was actually very warm considering its an old building, so great central heating. There are easy to understand instructions left around the house for everything so no confusions on how to use anything. We were also welcomed with a bottle of wine and chocolates which we really appreciated 🙂 it's a very cute and cozy place, would happily go back again!
I was a little concerned about the floorboards upstairs, I understand the building is probably very old. But as you walk between bedrooms in particular theres a spot that feels quite weak under your feet and it does make you worry that it'll give way some day and you'll fall through haha. But other then that I have absolutely no complaint what's so ever!

Good location. Good local facilities. Very pleasant village. Two bathrooms. Basic necessities avilable in the cottage. Good wifi (but no mobile signal - I was warned of this).
Many items in the cottage not well maintained or serviced. Cooker extract fan not working properly, fridge door broken when we arrived, sink blocked, loo difficult to flush properly, knives blunt, corkscrew doesn't work. Dining area very small and cramped.

Fantastic location in a lovely village, two good pubs and village shop. Lot’s of lovely walks in the area.
There were several things that have previously been mentioned that need attention - the toilet seats were broken, the fridge door wouldn’t close, shaving light didn’t work and we didn’t like the dining situated in the hallway etc.
