Excellence in a centrally located and beautiful river valley heritage building!
This is really quite an excellent place to stay to see the area surrounding Betws-y-coed! The location is picture perfect and central to all the walking tracks. The staff, with Michelle and Clarice out front, were excellent. Meals were great and the dinner and brekwirst venue was amazing.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay
Comfortable bed, very good en-suit, excellent breakfast and wonderful staff. Great location with what looked like lovely gardens which because of the weather we couldn't take advantage of.
The TV, not very good remote - I must stress, this was NOT a big issue. No other dislikes.

Bad value, poor quality (not 4 star) hotel, unsuitable for disabled people. BEWARE!
The location of the hotel is its best feature. Beautifully positioned by the river with good, easy access to the village and shops of Betsw-y-coed. The location, which they seem to be trading off of, was the only good thing about this hotel.
I booked their Superking/twin room (room 1) described as 'entire unit wheelchair accessible' on Booking.com (I am disabled and use a wheelchair) but found this not to be true. The toilet and shower rooms were separate and only the door/entrance into the toilet had been widened to accommodate wheelchair width. Access to the walk-in shower had not been modified and so it was impossible with door position and and angles to have a shower.
Ramp from the car park to reception and room was very steep and was not suitable for wheelchair use. Very difficult for anyone pushing someone either up or down.
Room 1 is not in the main block and reached via a path around the building. It is very poorly lit at night and I came off the narrow path in my wheelchair into the shrubbery, which was witnessed by a staff member. However, no help was offered and no follow up from management as to injuries etc.
My daughter asked Michelle (reception) if another room was available as we were not happy with room 1 but was met with "no", with no offer to rectify issues or other alternatives.
This is not a 4 star hotel in either its facilities or management. The room was dingy, no socket near to either single bed, no wall-anchored grab rails in toilet, no small fridge, a light on the wall with no shade, Wi-Fi turned off at night and beds that were impossible to sit/sleep on as no support. Porterage help with luggage was never offered (though advertised on their website), even though Michelle could see my daughter struggling in the rain and myself in a wheelchair.
Craig-y-Dderwen has the potential to be a wonderful hotel, which I feel it once was. Sadly, apart from its riverside location, 3 stars would be generous.
We booked a 2 night stay and decided to leave after the first night to find alternative accommodation. Mark (reception) was cold, put our complaints back on us and did not offer to rectify our issues.

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful place.
The location was stunning. It was a short easy walk into Betws y coed, the hotel was set in stunning scenery, and the staff/facilities were lovely. I’d go back in a heartbeat.
I can’t think of anything other than maybe more lighting on the driveway when its dark.

Lovely place with friendly and welcoming staff
Staff were all incredibly friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much to ask for. Prime and beautiful location, breakfast was perfect. Very dog friendly, she even got a sausage at breakfast. Lovely and faultless stay!

Great stay in beautiful surroundings close to amenities
Great location on the banks of the river Conwy in its own grounds but within a short walk of Betws town centre. We took our golden retriever and were made to feel very welcome.

Beautiful spot
Lovely by the river
Quite
With having a dog , could just have done with a gate to stop the dog going of the decking area . With the river being so close .

An unexpected gem on the edge of Betws y Coed
An unexpected gem on the bank of the Afon Conwy (river) on the edge of Betws y Coed. A small country house in secluded grounds, a real sun trap in good conditions. Comfortable room, spacious bar area and delicious imaginative dinners. Hot food at breakfast was outstanding. And the staff were unfailingly friendly and efficient. I’ll be back!

We had a wonderful stay, dinner, breakfast, the staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Staff was excellent and very friendly. We stayed in one of the lodges that was very clean and comfortable with beautiful location and views of the river. The dinner was superb! Delicious. We would definitely go back.
The bed in the lodge/cottage unit was a bit uncomfortable. The edges sloped down on both sides so you had to make sure you didn't sleep near the edge. But other than that...the bed and bedding was comfortable.

Location is fantastic, incredibly scenic and relaxing. Fort of staff were excellent, welcoming and friendly.

Lovely and convenient location but very tired decor and hugely overpriced food.
Beautiful location
Very tired decor. Curtains were like a grey nylon black out material. The bed linen was polycotton at best, a bit scratchy and there was a very worn brown throw which may once have been chenille. The dressing table had weirdly placed Knick knacks to stop the triple mirror folding forward. You could hear everything from the rooms next door. Scraping and banging meant poor sleep. They asked us to choose the dinner before our reservation because they make ‘everything fresh’ which is weird as isnt that what all restaruants do? Dinner was only 6- 8pm and it was incredibly overpriced sort of ‘wannabe gourmet’ but v small portions, and I am used to London prices. It was £45 per main for which I got one potato, some slivers of lamb and a few veg. I don’t judge food by size but this is 2 * Michelin prices for moderately good cooking. It was £55 for two courses. I ordered a glass of wine and it was a supermarket mini bottle opened at the table with no irony. The staff were very nice indeed but the whole place needs a massive refurb and to offer decent food at decent prices. Trading on its location but the bed was lumpy, the room like your gran’s spare room in 1985 and it would have been cheaper and better to eat anywhere else

Comfortable
Very comfortable, friendly staff, gorgeous grounds, ideal for if bringing a dog on holiday (with easy access bins and only a few areas being dog free), only short walk from the town.

Good facilities, disappointing room.
FOOD - excellent. Had dinner each evening although had not intended to. So good!
All very good, except the riverside lodge we wanted as unavailable through booking error. Upgraded room lovely, but second floor and no riverside view when sitting on balcony. not the holiday we expected and booked.

Very pretty setting and friendly staff. Felt very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The room was lovely with its own balcony. Bed was very comfortable and absolutely massive.

Wonderful riverside accommodation
We stayed in two of the riverside cottages. They were well equipped and immaculately presented. They were perfect for us and our dogs and we loved having the garden and field to exercise them in.

A severe disappointment.
Location
Cheap furnishings. Unappealing bureaucracy. Kitchen stench in room.
A tad expensive, premises/equipment a bit old, double bed not as wide as hoped for.

A lovely experience, everything we could have hoped for, and more. I would definitely recommend it.
-- Stunning location, the outside area overlooking the water was incomparable
-- Very nice and friendly service
-- Superlative food
If I wanted to be a carping critic I could say that given how good the food was overall, the breakfast could have been better.

A beautiful heartwarming memory
This hotel goes above and beyond excellence in all areas, staff, food, location 5*. Probably the cleanest hotel/restaurant I've ever seen in my life! Not a spec of dirt to be found. Beautiful people, beautiful location, you've exceeded expectations and set a very high standard for competitors, well done all.
I cannot critise this hotel at all but if you would like me to nit-pick, id say; room service to the cabins would be a nice option, just a simple menu like a pizza or burger or breakfast roll (to-go-style). Only because I climbed Snowdon as was unable to move that evening and the next morning.

A perfect place to stay in Snowdonia
Absolutely stunning location in Betws-Y-Coed! The staff are fabulous and very accommodating and the hotel itself is pretty as a picture.
There was a film crew staying at the same time, who left the hotel between 3-4 each morning and would slam their doors at all hours. Not the fault of the hotel though, just thoughtless guests.

Relaxing, peaceful and very enjoyable break in a great location.
A brilliant location in a separate lodge next to the river with a good view and private seating area.
It was very well equipped. I would only suggest a toaster is added to the inventory for more flexibility.

Fantastic location- good stay!
Fantastic location! Loved the views and silence.
The bed was overly too soft and there was not much support. Highly recommend to change the mattress to allow travellers to sleep more comfortably. Overall it’s a fantastic location and great hotel to stay in.

The views around the hotel.
The room we had was located outside the hotel which meant we had to use coats and umbrellas to get to reception and the breakfast room etc., Not a problem if weather was good but on one of our day’s spent there it was raining.

Everything but the bed was amazing.
The location was amazing, walking the fields along the river is beautiful. The staff are friendly and helpful, couldn’t ask for better service. We got food at the restaurant, that was brilliant, welsh salmon was some of the best I’ve ever had. Breakfast was very nice, not greasy.
Our only complaint was the bed. For us it was uncomfortable. It was a kingsize, but it was two beds put together with a noticeable hole between them.

Great place to stay for the weekend to get around Snowdon
The room was spacious, bed comfortable. Good shower and bathtub. Lots of furniture. Amazing views and river. Good parking space. Easy to find and has a petrol station right outside which was quite convenient.
The breakfast buffet is a bit basic because you have to order and that takes a bit long to wait. Coffee wasn’t great.
Room a bit noisy even wearing earplugs.
