Friendly staff, comfortable large bed, big bathroom with bath and shower

Slightly dated but it’s an old pub so to be expected

My neat little room had everything I needed. Very comfortable bed, especially the pillows. I stayed 2 nights. My first Breakfast was excellent. My second was not. It was fairly quiet despite the fact that this is a busy area, near the train station and the hotel has an attached bar.

The one woman with long (dyed) red hair was quite brusk. She made me wait an inordinate amount of time before she announced (with a bit of glee) that they were full up and I couldn’t stay another night. Then the next morning at breakfast I was moved twice. It’s a large dining room with few dinners. In each case I sat where there were utensils set out. But that wasn’t good enough. The first time it was “someone’s special seat.” The second time she just didn’t like where I was, so I was moved again—and not kindly. My seat was way too close to the loud TV. And my toast was burnt. So much for a quiet breakfast. I had trouble adjusting the hot water in the shower. It was either freezing or scalding.

Good location and the staff were friendly . The beer was excellent and there was a great ambiance in the bar.

Where do we start! 1) only one towel in a double room and had to go and request a second , 2)one teabag one just 3 milk cartons for a double room. Extra tea bags were provided on request but no extra milk was available.3) dishes on the dinner menu were found to be unavailable when requested 4) no herb tea at breakfast despite them being on menu and despite insistance from waitress that they were available 5) the cracked and peeling floor tiles in the bathroom, . Overall the place needs a good shakeup and the rooms need a dose of TLC!
