Hostal Yumbo Imperial

Location was good.

Kitchen opens 7am-9pm

When I got into Quito, I was lost and confused in a city unlike any I'd ever been. I arrived at Yumbo Imperial at 2 am, not knowing check-in was restricted to noon each day. Still, the young owner kindly let me in and gave me the only single, private room available - even though I wasn't able to pay (they only accept cash) until the next day because I had drained my last $25 in cash getting the taxi from the airport. Throughout my stay, the staff have been kind, warm and patient with my stuttering Spanish. The area is beautifully decorated in colonial architecture, the streets are safe, and the people are very friendly. The city has a vibrance to it, and I loved walking down the vendor crowded streets. Definitely a good spot for backpackers and travel buddies who are looking to mesh with the local culture.

Kitchen was a bit small, but clean. And understanding that nighttime security is a concern, having to pull the on-duty staff away to unlock the front door every time I needed to step out of the hostel was a bit cumbersome.

The staff locked and opened the hostal only to their attendees. The price is very low to stay within the center of Quito. The kitchen, refrigerator, microwave, and dining space give the option to save money instead of eating out.

The hostal has frequent visitors and you can hear the people coming and going and talking outside of your rooms.

The price! You won’t find a cheaper private room. The owner was very friendly.

Rooms are very basic, as is expected, but there was no wall between the top of the bathroom wall and the hallway.
